We have lived in our new home in Alpine, Utah for four years now. My current goal is to make a larger more open home (which works great with our extended family) have a bit of cottage charm and seem more cozy. I hope you will follow along and give me encouragement as well as advice as I embark upon this challenge.

Share Your Cup Thursday #31

Hello my friends and welcome to Share Your Cup.  If you are a regular party animal I want to say “thank you"!  I so appreciate you partying with me each week.  If you are new here, “welcome and howdy”!  So happy to have you share what ever it is that fills your cup, or in other words, makes you happy!

Can you believe that Halloween is only a week away?

We are off for a vacation so this will be the last chance I will get to hi-lite Halloween posts.  So today that is what I will be featuring, Fall and Halloween.

Also, there will be no Share Your Cup next week.  So please remember to come back in a couple of weeks and party.

Babs from Upstairs Downstairs shared her haunted foyer with the black Magnolia leaves and eerie moss.  Hop over and see what lurks beneath this mirror.

Debra from Doll in the Looking Glass created a lot of fun potion bottles just by using what she had around the house.

Pam from Apothecary Shop creates wonderful French items.  It’s no wonder that her Halloween décor has as a touch of French linen and music.

Carlene from Organized Clutter Queen showed us a recap of her Fall/Halloween décor.  So many wonderful vignettes.  I had a hard time deciding which picture to show.

Just look at this ‘wagon of plenty’ shared by Dru from Country Farm Home.  Good thing she snapped pics because a wind came up right after and played havoc on her creation.

Debra from Common Ground gave her sunporch a touch of Fall.

Now for a fun craft.

Look at this wonderful leaf bowl created out of faux leaves by Better Organized Living .  She gives a great tutorial and tips.

And a recipe.

How yummy do these ‘pumpkin drool bars’ made by  Twirl and Taste look?  And I don’t even like pumpkin.

I know that I featured a picture of Fall colors last week.  I don’t know about you, but I never tire of seeing the wonders that God and nature provide for us.  Linda from Photo Mom Linda is an avid hiker and runner.  she snapped some gorgeous photos on this rainy day hike.

The Witch is in!

As for now the witch is in,

Witch is in

IMG_8347

But soon, oh yes so very soon she’ll be going for a spin!

Going for a spin

Just wondering which way you like my pillow best?  El natural or picmonkey grunged?

IMG_8351

Now and then all witches need to go for a ride. . .

broom

But this witch doesn’t leave home without her travel guide.

IMG_8397

Now let’s take a Look inside. . .

guide collage

Ah yes, my favorite candelabra light…

helps guide the way, letting me know whether to go left or right.

Picture of me and a couple of witch gal pals.  Gives me comfort as the werewolf howls!

No good witch leaves home without a friend,

they’ll always be there no matter what, to help her body and soul mend.

IMG_8400

When it comes time for her to shift gears. . .

She’ll listen for the caw of her crow dear.

IMG_8410

She must keep her wand and secret potions at hand…

One never knows when she might need to whip something up, or perhaps lead a band. (hey, I know I’m stretching it here )lol!

IMG_8408

Even witches have a wish list.  I’m sure they are not much different from yours,  on this I must insist!

IMG_8406

IMG_8407

It’s always helpful to know the anatomy.

This may come in handy if I hit a tree!

IMG_8409

Always as I ride…Any advice is appreciated from my psychic guide!

IMG_8401

See it’s even in the cards that I take a vacation.

IMG_8403

Advice from Morticia would be the best!

After all, she’s the one who helped this witch pass Her test.

IMG_8411

Family and Home are always in my heart. . .They are the ones who gave this witch her start.

IMG_8412

The next generation has a place in this book too.

After all, I won’t always be here to make a witches stew.

IMG_8413

look at that face, isn’t she the best witch in training?  This is my granddaughter, Taylor when she was 4 or 5.  She’s now 13 and what a good witch she is becoming!

IMG_8414

This post was a bit long that’s for sure…

If you want to be a witch I hope you were able to endure!

Believe it or not, I didn’t even show you the whole book.  My SIL and I made this after seeing a smaller version in a Somerset magazine.  So, so much fun!  Yes, time was involved.  But such good advice for a witch to live by!

Best Witches!

Cute Hoot!

The past three years owl items have gradually grown in popularity.  This year they have gone hog wild.  I don’t know if you have noticed, but I have been seeing owls everywhere.

Somehow those funny looking big eyed critters have now become simply adorable.

My friend, Ann threw a birthday party for her daughter, Elise.  The theme being “Night Owl”.

If you knew Ann like I do, you’d know that she went all out.  She found a cute pattern of an owl and the girls made owl notebooks.

I decided to make a few for my granddaughters for Halloween.  Not sure where she got the pattern.  I’m guessing Pinterest.  Sorry, if I knew who I would credit them.

Easy to do, just cover an inexpensive composition book with scrapbook paper.  I used two sided tape.  I got these books for a mere $.49.

IMG_8390

See what I mean about those big wide eyed things.  They melt their way right into your heart.

IMG_8394

I gotta admit, they look pretty cute all in a row.  Looking at this it reminds me of the Sesame Street game, “One of these things is not like the other.”  Can you see it?

owl book

I am a G.G.G. (gift giving grandma).  Blame it on my mother.  Growing up she always gave us gifts for the holidays and then did the same for my kids.  I followed in her tradition.  I don’t buy and give things to them for just any reason.  But when a holiday rolls around they know that a prize is in store.

I think that my granddaughter, Paityn will be excited about her owl book.

Look at her newly decorated bedroom. Sorry, the pics aren’t the best.  Taken with my phone.

Her mom repainted and recovered the seat of this darling dressing table.  It was hers when she was young.

IMG_0063

She also redid the bed and chest.

IMG_0059

Her new bookcase was once her changing table.

IMG_0061

Look at what a darling little baby she was.

IMG_0062

And of course, beautiful babies turn into beautiful little girls!

IMG_0064

Pretty pink room for a pretty pink loving girl!

IMG_0060

IMG_0065

I bet you can guess which book is for her.

How about you, are you a gift giving mom or grandma?

Jann

Goodnight Sweetheart!

Today was a beautiful Fall day.  As much as I would like to play it ‘s time to say, “Goodnight Sweetheart” and put the garden to rest.

Every now and then I think it would be fun to live where I could garden year round.  But as I do the annual Fall clean up I find that I am ready for a break.

The waterfall now lies silent …

IMG_8386

And the pergola looks lonely.

IMG_8381

As beautiful as it is, this barren tree tells me that before we know it the ground will be blanketed with snow.

IMG_8385

The last of the vegetables were harvested and the annual plants pulled from the garden.

IMG_8373

IMG_8387

Alas, look what was lurking under the huge Zucchini vine.

IMG_8374

Hubby dug up the Canna bulbs to be stored for the Winter.  Amazing how much they had multiplied in just one year.  They’ll be tossed in a bucket with sand and stored in a cold area in the basement.

I also gathered Zinnia and Marigold seeds.

IMG_8375

Siberian Iris were divided and replanted.

IMG_8377

I added a few new perennials to the garden.  My friend, Amanda and I swapped plants.  I still have two boxes of Iris to get in.  My friend, Joyce bought me this Crocosmia to go by my waterfall a while ago.  I am just now putting it in the ground.

IMG_8376

Some outdoor furniture will be covered with a tarp and stored in the fire pit area.

IMG_8378

Notice what is already coming back?  Yup, Larkspur, like I say; it comes back every year with a vengeance and buries everything in it’s path.

IMG_8379

I dug my Rosemary  out of my Fairy garden and brought it indoors.  Still trying to decide if I want to do the same with this Charlie.  It has grown so large and trails to the ground.

IMG_8383

As I give the roses a slight trim one last beautiful red bloom bids me farewell.

IMG_8380

Every Spring I am totally amazed at the transformation that quickly comes in the garden.  till then,
“Goodnight Sweetheart!”

How about you, have you been putting your garden to rest?

Hugs,

Jann
