Traveling into another year. . .

Yup my friends, I celebrated my birthday yesterday and I am now traveling into another year.

When you get to be my age, you really don't care if you celebrate that you are getting older.

However, I must admit. . .it's better than the alternative.  :)

And how could I not be thrilled with this fabulous 'travel' themed party that my friends from craft group #1 threw for me?

It was held in my friend, Joanne's garden and she was the brain behind all of this fabulousness.

It all started with some trays that she had that represented a few states.  They became our chargers.  Wish I would have thought to lift up the plates and snap a photo.  (wink)

There were eight ladies and she set a setting with a plate of the state where each of us were born.  This is mine for Utah.  Amy made the amazing state cookies.

A cute hankie was tucked into my glass and I got to take it home with me.

How clever is this?  She bought toy trucks at the thrift shop and used the wheels for napkin rings.  Love, love!!

She plans months ahead.  I'm sure it took her a while to find plates of all the states us gals were born.

Each setting had a map magnet of the initial of our first name, sun glasses for travel protection, and an arrow stating how many miles to the state where we were born.

Little salt shakers were filled with flowers from Karen's garden.

Other hankies were tacked to pillows and placed under the pergola.

Even the chairs were embellished with paper airplanes and little matchbox cars.

Laura was going to throw these chippy cuties away so Joanne snagged them up and they are so fun on the table.

The meal was so yummy!  Burgers, beans, potato salad, fruit, and all topped off with root beer floats.

It was a fabulous evening and after we ate Brenda taught us how to make a crazy quilt pin cushion.

Jackie made my gorgeous cake.  It had a raspberry and lemon filling inside.  Oh yum!!

The white chocolate are 'wings to fly'.  Jackie has a blog,
Purple Chocolate Home and shares how she made this beauty.

And she really knew how to make me smile with this sparkler candle!

Karen sent me home with this cute holder and beauties
from her garden.

Oh what a night!

Here we are being sassy in our cool shades.

(Laura, Joanne, Jackie, Natalie, Brenda, me, Karen, and Amy)

hugs,
Jann

p.s. I just had to laugh.  I accidently typed jugs instead of hugs at first.  I wonder if it's because I am unintentionally poking out my
none others.  lol!

Jann, what an utterly fabulous idea for a party! And I agree...getting older is not cause for celebration, but for the alternative! I love this so much and as an ardent traveller, I suspect I'll borrow this idea very soon. Love, Mimi xxx

Well, Happy Birthday to you! And what great friends you have. I loved the theme and that your friend used the state hankies and plates. My mother has a huge collection of state plates from around the U.S. My father was a truck driver and would buy them for her on his work travels. Talk soon!

Happy Birthday and what a fun way to celebrate with the girls. I love every touch but the napkins and the arrangements just blew me away. You with the sparkler candle cake stole the show.

Got your post but now I need it to go to a new address.

Jann, Happy Birthday, dear one! What an absolutely wonderfully creative birthday party theme! How lucky you are to have your friend do all this, and to be able to share with your friends! I am so impressed with all the many details, I can't even decide which one I like the best. I just got two vintage hankies in June with the states on them - West Virginia and California. Wouldn't it be cool to have one for each state you traveled? Btw, I will be traveling through Utah sometime in August - not sure when, but hope to hit a few highlights in the SLC area (and not sure where else in UT). So looking forward to it. I'm going to see how many blog buddies' paths I may cross!
