SEW in Love with you!

Hello my friends,
I'm not sure when it started, but as long as I can remember I have been a 'theme' girl.

Give me a theme and ideas start running rampant in my mind.

I'm not sure if it's a blessing or a curse!  lol!
(now that I've confessed this, watch someone give me a theme and my mind go blank)  :)

I just finished watching the BBC series, Paradise.  I loved the character, Denise.  I think it was because she always had ideas popping into her head.

I enjoyed it so much that I decided to carry on a similar theme with my living room mantle this year.

SEW in Love With You!

(I gifted my stitching group friends with the chalkboard clipboards a few years ago for Christmas.  Of course, I made one for myself.)  Old spools wrapped with handmade lace and a heart made from an old cutter quilt)

All it takes is stepping into my sewing room for lots of vintage sewing treasures to help carry out my theme.

The Old White Rotary was scored at a yard sale years ago.

I made the hearts from old linens.

I recently found the little shoe at a thrift shop.  I added a bit of stuffing and covered it with a piece of an old quilt.  A pretty pin and a spool charm helped to dress it up.

This sweet altered art heart was one of my first give away wins.

In high school mom made all of my dresses.  I don't recall, but I wonder if she used one of these to measure my hem?

I love old buttons, wooden spools wrapped with yummy colors of thread, and pretty much any vintage sewing notion!

I've always loved the old tomato pincushions.  Can't resist picking them up whenever I run across one.  I found the oil can in OR last summer.  Love the sweet pink pin stripes!

I picked up the cute angel at the 'fleology' sale.

I draped a faux crystal and paper heart banner from the mantle.

Just a little reminder that I am
SEW  in love with you!

I wish I could say that I am everybody's 'Dream Girl',
but no;

I am your 'Theme Girl'!

hugs,
Jann

Share Your Cup Thursday #182

Hello, and welcome to Share Your Cup, (SYC for short).

The party where you share the things that make you happy.  It's what we call 'filling our cups'.

This is the fourth week that the party is being hosted by Carol, Jo, and myself.

Last week we pulled it off pretty smoothly.  Maybe we are starting to get the hang of it.  :)

What have your hostesses been up to this week?

Carol cozied up her home by adding Hearts Everywhere

and shared how she spends her In Between Time

Jo has been creating things to Fill Up Her Space

I had fun creating a Valentine Picnic Tablescape

and putting together my Milk Glass Valentine Mantle

It was my turn to pick the features this week and it's always a challenge to narrow it down to just 6!

Features from SYC #181:

It was love at first sight for Pat from French Country Style from the Foot of the Rockies when she spied this beauty.

Lynn from Quaker Home Cottage shared the wonderful slipcovers and pillows that she made.

Betsy from My Salvaged Treasures shared the fun flower art she made from salvaged junk.

I've Got Milk! (Glass)

Hello my friends,
have you ever found that you have made a collection out of something that you really didn't intend to?

That's what I have done with milk glass without even realizing it.  :)

Ages ago my older sister, Dee Dee sold me this large milk glass platter, along with service for 4 dinner plates, salad plates, and goblets.

I knew nothing about milk glass, but just thought they were pretty. For years those are the only pieces I owned.  But then, I started seeing some at thrift shops and yard sales.

Of course I had to pick them up!

Got this beauty for only $4.

The pitcher I picked up in Oregon while driving the 'fruit loop' on a girl trip about 4 years ago.  Didn't get it for a steal.  I had to pay $30 for it.  Really, I bought it to go with my 'pitcher' collection.

A little over a week ago, while friends were here we read about milk glass in the Country Living magazine.  Do you know about the 'ring of fire'?

I had never heard of it before, but to spot the 'real deal' you hold it up to a natural light source.  Older milk glass was made with iridized salts and when held up to natural light it will produce a halo of iridescent reds, blues, and greens in the sun.

All but a sugar and creamer set that I had passed the test.

I decided I wanted to use it on my family room mantle for Valentines.  I backed it with an architectural piece and tucked various shades of red hearts into the
milk glass.

I attended the '3 Dotters' vintage sale on Sat. and my friend, Paula from Pollyanna Reinvents had the fabric garland for sale.

Granted, I could make one; but sometimes it's nice to bring it home and just hang it up.

Problem is I wasn't loving the mantle.

I placed the bowl on the left side on a cake stand for more elevation.  Better, but still not head over heels in love.

Love the garland, but finally just felt it was a little too heavy looking for the mantle.

So I pulled out the doily banner I made a few years ago.

BINGO!  I think it did the trick!
I don't like reusing things in the same way, but it's been a few years since I used this banner here.

What do you think, better?

Oh, and guess what I found at a thrift shop last week?
A milk glass punch bowl set with 12 cups.
Couldn't pass it up!  (wink)

hugs,

Valentine Picnic Tablescape

Hello my friends, I found a little treasure this week and I couldn't wait to play with it.

You all know how much I love plaid and when I spied this portable folding picnic table I was smitten.

It became my inspiration for a Valentine picnic tablescape.

I thought I might use it opened up, but decided it was too big for the center of the table.  I wish I would have snapped a photo of it for you to see.
Guess you'll just have to wait until summer when I use it outdoors.  :)

I may be using a portable plaid picnic table, but a Valentines picnic deserves a bit of fanciness, don't you agree?

I used my white linen ruffled tablecloth

And placed my pretty red striped runner, gifted to me by my dear friend, Amanda down the center.

I used the chalkboard chargers I bought at Target and wrote the word love in four different languages.

I layered assorted black and white dishes.
It's all about the layering, right? (wink)

I placed my two new heart bowls from Target on top of a small black cake stand and sat it on the plaid picnic table.

A couple of thrift find bottles (anything with a red lid comes home with me), filled with candy add a little Valentines fun.
If this were a 'real' picnic you could fill one with soup and the other with salad.

I tucked a dish towel that I have added a polka dot border inside of a white wicker picnic basket and topped it with my red checkered S&P shakers.

After all, what's a picnic without ants?  :)

For a touch of whimsy I added a crochet apron to the chandy.

The ruby red glasses are vintage, but the pitcher is a reproduction I found years ago at T.J. Maxx.

A mixture of plaid, stripes, polka dots, and florals.

What can I say, they just make me happy!

How about you, do you love mixing patterns?

hugs,
Jann
