Sorry that I am late at posting this.  My internet was down.  You don’t want to know why. lol! (In other words, I accidently pulled the wrong plug in the basement.  Thought I was unplugging a saw.)

Each week you amaze me with your incredible talents.

With Memorial weekend approaching my thoughts have been on my beloved family and friends that have passed on.

I wanted to share a picture of two of my Iris that were starts from my dear mother.  It was from her that I developed a love of gardening.

Summer is just around the corner.  Look at this cute picnic blanket made by Connie from Hot Flash n Craft n. It is made from a tablecloth and she gives a great tutorial.

Look at this beautiful tea set up by Two Cottage and Tea.  It was still too cold to have it outdoors so she sipped by the window.  I love this chippy blue chair!

I’m sure that many of you are familiar with this next blog.  Courtney from French Country Cottage has been inspiring me for a year now.  Her blog was one of the first I discovered when I began blog hopping.  She has amazing talent. I love the look she created by removing some of the doors on her kitchen cabinets.  Go visit her to see the rest of this gorgeous kitchen.

Fancying up my Feeder. . .

Hi friends, do you remember a couple of weeks ago when I showed you this tall chicken feeder I bought from my friend, Dolly’s Aunt Bunny?

She was kind of a plain Jane and I knew she needed  something to make her a little bit fancy.

Well look at her now!

One of my favorite magazines is Country Gardens.  It’s one of those that you never tire of no matter how old.  I never throw an issue away.

It only comes four times a year.  Every now and then I pull out back issues and just enjoy.  While browsing through an old ‘2008’ issue I saw this. . .

Immediately I thought, that is just like my feeder only fancier.  I had to give my girl a make over.  I didn’t have a checkered board stencil so I cut a square out of cardstock with my large square punch and it worked great. I wasn’t going for perfection here.  In fact, I wanted to be a bit imperfect.

I used what alphabet stencils I had so my lettering is a bit different.

Using stuff I already had around the house this project cost me chicken feed. 

And who knew that Purina did more than feed cats and dogs?

I didn’t copy everything that was on the one in the magazine, but I  love the new look!

It found a home on my wall behind the pergola next to a few other tin buddies.

Everything is Coming Up Roses!

Ever since Mother’s Day the Olson gardens are seeming to be a  bit more rosy.

Last Fall hubby installed a rustic metal fence in the East corner of our yard.  Originally I bought the shabby white fence to go behind our pergola.  Soon I realized that it was just too much.  I thought that I could use it for a vegetable garden.

This is my engineer hubby’s way of rigging it up to stay straight in the concrete.

Well, a girl’s got a right to change her mind.

The more I looked at the area the more I thought, rose garden.

Each of my 5 children gave me a rose bush for Mother’s Day.

I bought 6 more roses and this is the results.

The bushes are small, and there are a lot that haven’t bloomed yet, but oh, how lovely it soon will be.  Especially in years to come.

The roses that are blooming are gorgeous!  The kids gave me a good variety.

We had an extra piece of fencing so I placed it like an open gate.

I planted Sweet Peas all along it.

Did you notice that I didn’t totally do away with the vegetable garden idea?

At the end that connects to our rock wall hubby tiered me a couple of levels for vegetables.  I also plant some veggies here and there on the rock wall.  Aren’t you happy to know that we will still be eating healthy?

Last year with the help of my sister and a friend I made five different concrete and broken glass stepping stones.  I placed three of them up the center of the garden and planted  some moss to soften them.

Here is a close up to show you the broken glass.  If you would like a tutorial let me know.  I took pictures as we were making them.

Each day I happily anticipate the unfurling of each new bud.

Even the bees are loving my new rose garden.

Babes in the Woods. . .

In my last post I featured some cute vintage strawberry glasses that I recently purchased at an Antiques Mall.

On the bottom left side of each glass is has this:

I wondered if the initials T. S. stood for too sweet.

Only after one of my cute bloggy friends, Julie Marie from Idyll Hours told a sweet story of what she imagined the initials stood for did thoughts of a childhood song come rushing to my mind.  Her story can be read on my comments on the previous post.  It has a much happier ending than mine.

My mom use to sing this song to us girls.  Warning:  this could cause tears to roll down your cheeks.

                     Babes in the Woods

Poor babes in the woods went strolling one day.

Got lost in the woods, so some people say.

Got lost in the woods and laid down and died.

Poor Babes in the woods!  Poor Babes in the woods!

And while they were dead the Robins so red,

brought strawberry leaves and over them spread.

And all the day long, they sang a sweet song;

Poor babes in the woods!  Poor babes in the Woods!

Mom said that after she would sing it we would bawl and with tears running down our cheeks say, “sing it again, sing it again”.

Now, I must admit, I sang this song , as terrible as it may seem, to my own children.  I have also sang it to my grandchildren.  Mostly when they are infants and a bit fussy.  I put my mouth to their ear and sing it ever so softly.  Seems to work every time.  Who knows, maybe they are traumatized and don’t dare cry. lol!

Not only do I sing it for children, but one of my friends hubby always asks me to sing it.  For some reason people just want to hear this song.  No matter how sad it may be.  Honest, if you heard me sing you would know it’s no treat.  The words are captivating and you want to hear it over and over again.  Even if it makes you cry.

We are not sure where the origin of the song came from.  My sister, julie’s step daughter found a book titled ‘Babes in the Woods” and bought it for her. The book tells the same sad story as the song.  Now we know that this is a true song and not just something our mother made up.

I’ve decided that the T & S on the glasses stands for TOO SAD!  Everytime I look at or use these glasses I will think of those Poor Babes!

Good For You!

This time of year many of us are busy planting a vegetable garden

If you’re like me you have high anticipation of the harvest we will soon reap.

I love fruits and vegetables and like mama said, “they are good for you!”

I thought I would share some of my bounty that is ready to be harvested.

Look at these beautiful cabbages. 

A couple of small ones are growing close by.

The carrots are a beautiful color of orange.  I’ve gathered a few of them in my vintage colander.

Add a little lettuce and some radishes voila’ we’ll have a colorful salad.

Now how about something a little sweeter?

The strawberries are ripe and ready for pickin.

just wondering, do you thing the T S stands for too sweet?

I have tons of cherries, but these were the only ones ripe enough to pick.

I bought this cute plate at a thrift store for $1.50.  I had to buy it because it just happens to be a motto I live by.

After your stroll, take time to pick a few fruits and vegetables.

Why?  Because they’re good for you!

Share Your Cup Thursday #9

Welcome everyone, it’s time for another Share Your Cup.

It amazes me how quickly the weeks fly by. 

This week it has been all about the garden.  I have been very busy planting annuals.  Each day greets me with a new bloom.

Hubby and I have been working on a project that I can’t wait to share with you!

As usual I enjoyed each and every post that was shared last week.  It’s always hard to narrow the features to just a few.

With gardening on my mind I wanted to show you some of the beautiful blooms from Shannon at Cozy Home Scenes gorgeous garden.
