Hello my friends and welcome to Share Your Cup.

Oh how I love this time of year. Everything about it makes me happy. The smell of pies and turkey baking in the oven, candied yams, and cranberries. These are among my favorites! I feel so very blessed and thank my Heavenly Father for my faith, family, friends and the freedom we enjoy!

I also am so anxious to start decking the halls. Started a little on my bedroom. In my opinion there is not a happier time of year. I even love the hustle and bustle of it all.

Call me crazy, but I just do!

Now here’s what caught my eye from last week.

I absolutely adore these stacking baskets that Homespun shared. The mixture and colors are just perfect!

I featured A Southern Belle with Northern Roots last week, but I fell head over heals in love with the transformation of this sweet cupboard and everything on it.

Just look at this ottoman Allyson from Domestic Super Hero made using a pallet. Pretty amazing if you ask me!

Laurie from Heavens Walk had a glass top table. She bought wood and all by her little old self turned it into this beauty.

With Thanksgiving tomorrow how appropriate are these pumpkins by Pollyanna Reinvents?

And to get us in the mood for Christmas look at these sweet folk art lambs made by Jennifer from Thimbles, Bobbins, Paper, and Ink

Wheat. . .The Heart of America!

Hi my friends,

For the past few years I have been picking up vintage wheat dishes. What started out as one wheat pitcher has grown into quite a collection.

The first items I found were these sweet yellow and white series. After showing them in a post last year, Sweet Wheat. (Click on it to check it out) One of my readers informed me that they use to come in laundry detergent. The glasses were a thrift find I gave to my youngest daughter. She gave them back to me when they recently moved to Spain.

Wheat is such an important grain. It’s has helped sustain life for centuries.

There’s nothing quite like the sight of a field of wheat.

Last year my sister, Julie found a set of wheat dishes at the D.I. in Price, UT. Knowing that I had been collecting them she called to see if I wanted them.

Even though they are not the same, for $30 I didn’t think I could go wrong.

I decided to set my Thanksgiving table with them. My hubby brought me the lace tablecloth from Panama. He served there for summer camp in the National Guard one year.

These are a fancier set than the white and yellow ones. Being the plain ~~Jann~~ Jane that I am I dressed them down a little with bamboo place mats.

I have never been a lover of gold silverware. This is one time that It would look lovely.

For the centerpiece I used my cute little strawberry cart. It holds extra dishes and a white faux pumpkin. This works great because when the time comes to put all the food on the table it can be lifted off easily.

And what goes better with wheat dishes than wheat? This burlap covered pot sits in the cart also.

Other dishes that came with the set. These will hold mashed potatoes and cranberries.

A couple other wheat dishes that are white and yellow. I always love mixing things up.

The glasses are ones that I picked up at the $1 store a few years ago. It’s the sentiment that sold me on them. This is what they say: Family…Memories are made of this…smiles.laughter.hugs

And this is the pitcher that started it all.

I don’t know about my other American friends, but I can hardly wait to. . .bring on the turkey!

And on a more serious note, I thank the Lord for all of my many blessings!

The First Thanksgiving. . .

Thanksgiving Day is almost here. Today I thought I would share the story of the First Thanksgiving using some of my décor.

Yes, sit back and pretend you are back in grade school again. lol!

That’s about what age my poetry is written for. hee-hee!

The Pilgrims sailed across the sea upon the mighty May Flower.

They hoped to escape the Dutch and gain religious power.

An old Indian village was the place they called their new home,

They arrived hoping never having to leave again or roam.

Soon the Indians and the Pilgrims became friends,

If they didn’t see eye to eye they would compromise and make amends.

The Indians taught them how to survive and plant corn,

In 1621 their first successful harvest caused a celebration to be born.

Wishing I had put 1621 on this stitching instead of the year I made it.

It went down in history as an important day,

One to give thanks and to pray.

This time of year our hearts are so full,

It’s a great teaching moment for our children I know.

President Lincoln declared it a day of ‘Thanksgiving’ in 1863.

Because the Pilgrims set the standard for us you see.

The first Thanksgiving dinner was not quite like what we have now,

They didn’t have cakes or pies, but they probably had fowl.

Not turkey, but maybe grouse, ducks, or geese,

We know for sure that the Indians brought 5 deer to that first Thanksgiving feast.

Gather together and count your blessings one by one,

Taking time to remember will make us thankful for all that he’s done!

Even through difficult times, I’m thinking of those who have suffered so much from hurricane Sandy, there is always something to be thankful for.

As long as I can remember I have always decorated to the max. I see others who have a very simple style and I adore it, but for some reason I have never been able to accomplish it.

I started a book page wreath some time ago and never finished it. Today I decided to finally get er done!

Here it is in all it’s simplicity. . .

I wanted it to look elegant but simple.

I found the vintage ornament at Star Mill Antiques for $1.50.

The shear silver ribbon I bought at Thanksgiving Point. For now I have left the tails really long. May trim them when I decide where it will end up. But who knows, maybe not. I’m kind of liking it.

I made a few rolled book page wreaths a couple years ago, but this is kind of a fun twist.

Simple and easy:

I cut 4” squares out of an old book. You will need 75-80.

I covered my Styrofoam wreath form with inexpensive paper like ribbon. This helps to hold the pages better and not melt the Styrofoam.

I poke my finger into the center of each square and then scrunch it up.

I press it onto the wreath and hold for a few seconds. You can crease it in a little more if it needs it after it dries.

When it was finished I sprayed the entire surface with Elmer’s spray adhesive and gave it a dusting of glitter. I lost some of it when I turned it over to add the ribbon. May need to give it a second dosing. I should have been patient and let it dry better.
