My Fair Ladies. . .

This weekend not only did I find new fair ladies, but I got reacquainted with an old friend of mine.

Before I show you can I just say how much I am missing my camera? Yup, I left it at my sisters last weekend and won’t get it for a few more days. Phones are great, but really didn’t get the best pics of these gals, thought I would share them anyway. Don’t ask me where the pink glow is coming from.

In May my friend, Joyce and I went to Spring City to order a sheep painting from a local artist. While there we stopped at a few yard sales.

I found a couple of little cameo pictures that I thought would be fun to redo. Forgot to get a before pic, but they were gold with black rubbings and mounted on gold velvet. The frames were brown wood with an inner gold rim.

I gave them a little washing with white chalk paint, sanded and mounted them on a piece of b&w houndstooth that I picked up at a thrift store. Have I ever told you that I am ‘hound dog’ crazy about houndstooth?

I hung them on a wall in my basement bath. They look pretty cute with the b&w tile. By the way, did you know that cameos are a hot item lately? I didn’t until a guy at a flea mentioned they were.

Now if you think those two ladies are cute, wait till you see these. I got this at a yard sale this week. Don’t you love that dimensional heart and arrow? I have to tell you that the photos of the cherubs are the same ones that hang in my fil’s bedroom. Been there as long as I can remember. They are in two separate frames and I have always adored them. At first I was going to white wash the frame because it was quite scratched. Hubby liked it as it was so I pulled out the ‘Old English’. It did wonders. I think I will hang them in our basement bedroom.

Last of all, I want you to meet this fair maiden. I have had this picture for years. My mil, brought it to me from the home she grew up in ID. It was hanging in the master bath at our previous home. Our son was renting it when we had it for sale and I left a lot of things there so it didn’t look empty. He got married and ended up buying the home. Recently I asked him if they wanted this lovely gal or could I have her? I thought she would look cute in the basement bath as well. At the bottom is says that it is published by ‘Currier and Ives’ and is called, ‘My Choice”. Not sure if the date is authentic, but carved in the wood on the back is the year ‘1853’.

What do you think of my fair ladies? They may be old (I mean dated) but I think they are ever so sweet! Do you have a favorite?

Today is my birthday and I will be going to a garden tour with my friends. You know that’s going to make this girl happy!

Susan from Must Love Junk noticed that she always pairs wood and wire together. She says it just makes her happy.

Playing (with) Chicken in the garden. . .

I must confess that I am just a tad jealous of you gals and your girls, (chckens). When I see them running around your gardens I think. “How fun is that?”

I have a couple of chickens in my garden, but they don’t do much running around.

That was until yesterday. When I walked out for my morning look about one of my girls asked me if I wanted to play a game. Obviously, I thought that meant a game of chicken because well, she’s a chicken.

I had images of her and I waddling (do chickens waddle) towards each other until one of us got all tuckered out.

But no, she wanted to play hide & seek.

This is where she usually resides. A nice little spot under the pergola. Isn’t she cute? My sister, Julie and friend, Dolly carved her using a chain saw out of a hunk of wood.

She asked me to cover my eyes. Before I knew it she had hopped up under my little Annabelle Hydrangea.

Seriously, does she think I can’t see her? Pitiful hiding place if you ask me.

Then I spied her hiding in the pumpkin vines. Still not sure if she gets the concept of hiding.

She’s doing a little better in the herb garden.

Oh my gosh, now she’s right out in plain sight. Surprised that she chose this spot. I would’ve thought that my jumping frog would frighten her. After all, she is chicken!

I think that the colored bottles attracted her to this spot.

Oh yes, by George I think she’s got it. It took me a while to find her here!

After all that running around she was tuckered out and had to run (I mean waddle) to her nest.

Must admit, I was a little tired myself. But what fun the two of us had. So much so that I am thinking of making this game a tradition for the grandies. Wouldn’t they love to play hide and seek with my chicken each time they come.

They’ll be here Sunday to celebrate my birthday. Yes, today is my birthday, and it’s a biggie! No wonder I was all tuckered out. At my age I’m surprised I could even ~~run~~ waddle around at all. lol!

Hello, and welcome to a brand new week. Last Friday my sister, Jeanne and I headed 2 hrs. South to visit two of our older sisters and a friend.

We made fun projects, played cards and dice games to wee hours in the morning, ate like queens, and laughed till our sides hurt. A couple of times some of us, (not to mention any names) had to run quickly into the potty because they were laughing so hard.

I took lots of pics to share with you. But, guess who had a senior moment and left her camera at her sisters? Yup, you got that one right.

As many of you know last month we took a trip to Spain and Portugal. It was a wonderful vacation and I still have lots of pictures that I haven’t shared. I thought I would show you a little of beautiful Portugal.

Ten things I loved about Portugal:

1. Clotheslines hanging across the windows.

2. Amazing tile work on the buildings.

3. Views high up in the sky.

4. Hilltops just waiting to be explored.

4. Gigantic Hydrangea blossoms.

5. Breathtaking Castles.

6. Points that felt like you were at the end of the earth!

7. Places that look like they stepped right out of a picture book.

8. Towers beaconing to be climbed.

9. A church filled with gold.

10. A wall covered in little glass sparrows.

And what took us to all of these wonderful places? This sweet little turquoise VW van of our daughter and sil. They bought it to tour Europe this summer.

Now that’s living life to the fullest, don’t you think?

Where I Will Create. . .Craft Room Reveal

Hello, hello! I was going to wait until Monday to do my craft room reveal. That was until I found this:

Where Bloggers Create at My Desert Cottage.

How could I NOT join in on this fun party? She asked that we get our posts out on the 11th so that meant two posts in one day. Whoaaa, that’s a lot of pics!

I wanted this room to showcase my love for vintage items and at the same time have a shabby chic feel.

My craft table is an old laundry table. Perfect space for creating. I found the cutest tan & black zebra chair at Hobby Lobby but it was too tall. So for now this chair is borrowed from my upstairs island.

I love these hooks! I want to make some little catch all bags to hang from them.

I pulled this rug from my upstairs laundry room. I thought it gave the room just the right amount of ‘pizazz’.

I found this rolling cart at a yard sale for $3. They had two. This one was less because of the damage on top. Hee-hee, little did they know that was what attracted me to it.

The sweet little lights are from Ikea.

The mustard colored barn doors are my favorite thing in the room.

I leave the doors open because I think that craft organizational items are so fun! I have a weakness for anything with numbers.

This old desk once belonged to my dad. He died when I was 9 months old so it holds a special place in my heart.

When I was snapping pics I noticed that my granddaughter had left a note.

This shelf holds my vintage camera collection and my lucky #7.

Mrs. Olson has to have a few ‘O’s. The rusted metal hubcap was a roadside find. What better place to showcase them than in old soda crates?

I haven’t had a chance to print pictures to hang from my laundry hook turned photo display.

The thread holder was a $5 flea find.

I painted this little cabinet and added the numbers. The drawers will be handy for those ‘little’ things. I also painted the three wooden bowls mustard. Great to hold items when working on a project.

I Modge Podged book pages onto the frame I had made for this large ‘O’. Which really is the number 0 from a gas station. At first I tried to clean off the greasy handprints that the attendants left. Then I realized that’s what gave it character.
