Home Away from Home. . .Glamping in Miss Dotty
Vain & Vintage. . .A Fun and unique shop
Signed, Sealed, Delivered. . . It’s Yours!
Actually, it’s not really signed or sealed. But tomorrow the wreath will be delivered and, wish I could say; “it’s yours”.
That might be a bit difficult since the lucky winner is vacationing in Australia at the moment. Wow, how lucky can one person be?
The winning token of my appreciation for visiting my blog.
Look at this sweet little glittery turquoise (sigh) bird that I found at Planted Earth. Can’t believe that I didn’t snatch one up for myself. Think I’ll head back over there and do just that!
I adorned it with another one of those darling bird tags created by Shalona. Would love to have that stamp! The wreath has a bit of sparkle to it but it didn’t really show in the pic.
I hope that Kari enjoys her new winnings!
Some time ago my sweet cuz, Betty gave me this vintage sewing book. I have been meaning to do something with it. I even took it to see how much it would cost to have it framed. They wanted $280. (that was at fifty percent off). Keep in mind, that it was bigger than this. I decided that I didn’t want to pay that much.
I ran across this cork board at T.J. MAXX and thought it might work.
I pulled out a few little trinkets to give it some PIZAZZ!
Look at these vintage styles. . . they are classic!
I think that Butterick is still around today.
No sewing board would be complete without a swatch of fabric and a moda label. The little pin and flower aren’t too shabby either. It’s those little things that make a difference.
Now, the only problem is that the walls in my sewing room are just blah-sy cream. This means that they will do nothing for a white frame.
I’ve been contemplating painting them chocolate brown. Not real dark, just mediocre . Guess that’s gotta be on the agenda for next week because I’m awfully anxious to hang my sewing board!
Got Ironing?
A couple of weeks ago I went with my sister-in-law to “The Planted Earth” in Orem. This shop is the closest thing in Utah County to “Urban Renewal” in St. George. It’s kind of funky and you never know quite what you might find.
We went out into the greenhouse to see if she could find a pot for her rosemary plant. As we were walking through I spied a metal table, at least what I thought was a table.
Immediately I thought how fun it would be under our pergola to hold drinks when we have cook outs with family and friends. now here’s the catch. I don’t actually have a pergola yet. Now wait, I’m not that crazy! We do have plans on putting one in this Spring.
My husband has a hard time understanding the concept of buying something to go somewhere before you have that somewhere to put it. I can’t imagine why! Here’s the other thing, when you find that special treasure you know you just can’t pass it up. It sure isn’t going to wait around for you to build your pergola.
I wasn’t sure what exactly the piece was but it had this sweet bit of art on the front of it that led me to believe that maybe it had come out of a beauty shop.
LOVE it!
I asked the girl if she knew what it was. She said ‘no, but that she’d call the owner.
It’s an IRON RITE!
Great, I thought. All seemed fine until my hubby and I went to pick it up in his truck. The owner was there, he was kind of an old fashioned hippy. I met him and his wife. After meeting them I now can totally see where this little eccentric shop fits.
Anyway, to make a long story short. Or at least not quite as long. The thing weighed a ton. It has a huge industrial iron under that innocent looking metal top.
OOPS, I promised my hubby that after moving my old stove up from our Highland home that I would never make him move anything that heavy again. Too bad I already paid for it.
We rounded up our friend Kyle Sat. afternoon and he and Shultz managed to get it okay. It went a lot better than I expected. It’s on wheels so they were able to roll it out to the truck.
It’s in our garage for now but I am so looking forward to placing it under the pergola (well, having them place it under the pergola) after it’s built.
Can’t you imagine that tub of Coca Cola sitting atop it right now? I can hardly wait to have you over for an ice cold soda and a sit down under my pergola!
Home Tour–part two
The next house we went to was my daughter, Karrahs. She apologetically told everyone, “ my decorations are all my mom’s old ones that she’s handed down to me.” But you know what? She has added some style of her own, and they have found new life in HER home!
Her tree is all SNOWMAN themed. I have so much fun finding a new ornament for her each year. This is a tradition that started when my children were young. New this year are the snowflakes she added at the top. They just gave it a little more pizazz! So Cute!!
This is one of my favorite Christmas items of hers! I wonder why? Vintage story book that was her husbands as a boy. PRICELESS!
Karrah inherited a few of my mothers Christmas decorations. Whenever I see them I can’t help but think of her and, oh how she loved Christmas!
I can’t believe I didn’t take more pics. I was just too busy telling the history of everything and forgot to snap. Sorry, the old brain doesn’t work quite like it use too! :(
After Karrahs home we went to my cousin, Betty’s.
Betty has been crafting for years! This is her gingerbread and Angel collection. I’d bet that she has made a lot of them. I know for sure that she made the large gingerbread girl.
SNOWMEN – No matter what they are made of, they always manage to find a warm place in my heart!
She decided to put her card advent calendar on a canvas instead of in a frame. It made it have it’s own unique look, very clever! I can’t believe how different everybody’s turned out. I love the variety! Notice her cute HO HO Santa garland hanging above it.
REMEMBER – we still have four more houses full of wonderful Christmas décor. Be sure and visit again!
Pillow Talk
About a month ago I noticed that the pillows on my couch and love seat seemed to be talking to me.
“Dress me up for Christmas, please!”
That was all it took and I started pulling vintage items from my stash. Then a quick trip to Wal-mart for some burlap. Found a few items there to help dress them up.
After a few hours of racking the brain as to what to do- this is what I came up with.
Rustic meets vintage
One of moms earrings adorns the center
no Christmas pillow collection would be complete without at least one bird. I made the yo-yo’s, but the buttons are vintage. The crochet lace once belonged to my mother
To create the snowflake I used old laces and buttons. The center decoration is just something I had picked up a year ago at the Star Mill. I didn’t know what I would do with it. Just thought it was kindof funky!
Wool and fabric flowers. The center of the black twisted flower was another of moms earrings.
Texting is for the Birds!
I love this messagee the bluebird delivered.
A close-up to show a bit of the details.
began to run through my mind. I couldn't help but think that soon sending postcards and letters could be a thing of the past. Texting has changed our life! Sure it's very convenient, and it saves alot of time having to call or write people. As for myself, I am NOT a texter. At first I refused and hated the idea of the whole thing. I know that I am a bit old fashioned. Then one day I decided, "oh well, maybe I should learn." Kylee was going to show me but she said that it was too hard to do it on my phone. Right then and there I decided that it wasn't meant for me.
So as far as I am concerned-Texting is for the birds!!
