B is for Burlap and Bananas. . .

As I was sitting on my sofa sipping on a banana strawberry smoothie I glanced up at my burlap curtains.  Yes, I’m a naughty girl who doesn’t sit up to the table.

Suddenly, a thought came to my mind:  “I don’t know which I like best, burlap or bananas.”

As a young girl, bananas were always my favorite fruit.  Now I love all fruit!

I loved these curtains from the first time I saw them in the store.  I love them even more now that they hang from my family room windows.

IMG_4129

I love how they don’t totally block out the view and the sun.  They just give my room a warmer cottagey feel.   I also love how they drape on the floor.

IMG_4125

Burlap is so universal.  There’s so much you can do with it.

You can hang it from a curtain rod.

IMG_4117

I did this in my bedroom.

You can cover a box with it. . .

IMG_4116

I actually bought this one at Ross for $21.99.  Didn’t think that was a bad price.

You can cover a pot with it.

IMG_4128

I fell in love with this pre-made burlap bag I found at Sun River  Nursery for $3.  It would be easy enough to make.

You can tie it to almost anything.

A wreath:

IMG_4114IMG_4113

Or maybe even two.

How about a lampshade?

IMG_4120

Or just a sweet little pumpkin?

IMG_4124

You can also wrap a wreath form with it.  My hairdresser, Shalona made this one. Any of you local people that read my blog, she will be having a boutique at her salon, “The Emporium” located on A.F. Main St. this Fri. and Sat.

IMG_4122

You can throw it on a table as a tablecloth. I used a rusty/red burlap cloth for my Thanksgiving décor.

IMG_4056

You can even make a turkey out of it.

IMG_4130

I made this fella years ago.  Before burlap was cool. lol!  He’s so funny that I have to keep him.  He’s hanging out on my front porch.

And last of all, you can make pillows out of it.

Last Christmas I made pillows for my family room sofa and loveseat.  I made them to cover my existing pillows so they are easy to store.

Pic is a bit blurry.

These pillows cost very little to make.  I bought the burlap at Walmart for next to nothing.  Using materials you have to embellish them makes them almost cost free.

I used antique laces and jewelry to embellish them.  If you’d like to see more, go here:http://jannolson.blogspot.com/2010/12/pillow-talk.html

I know that there is a lot more that you can do with burlap.  I’d love to hear what you’ve been doing with it lately.

Have fun eating bananas and decorating with bulap1

LOVE it all! I have a lace-trimmed burlap table runner on my dining room table that I did not make myself because I don't sew. I recently ordered it from etsy. I actually just posted a pic of it in my Alphabe-Thursday post! :)

You are so creative! I love all the burlap... makes me wonder what I can do in my house with it, the brown color would go well with our decor. I especially like the idea of covering a wreath form- it gives it a lovely natural look. Hmm... thinking... :)

I'll take the burlap over the bananas! We have some fun pillows made of burlap...it's so plain that there are no limits to what you can do to dress it up.
