SWEET Halloween!

Lately I have been posting about my ‘spooky’ Halloween décor.

house

I love this haunted house I found at T.J. Maxx last year.

Today I wanted to share with you the sweeter side of Halloween.  As a child I could hardly wait until Halloween eve.  The anticipation of what costume I would wear and all of the candy that I was going to get was almost more than I could bare.

Maybe that is why I love Halloween and candy so much still to this day.  The grandies know that there is always goodies to be found at grandma’s house.  They also quickly learn what they can and can’t eat.  Yup, some of it I save from year to year.  This treat table in my entry is fresh and ready for a little sampling.  I must confess that only the top third of the candy corns are new. hee-hee!

IMG_8328

I made the little treats pillow a couple years ago.

IMG_8329

For instance, these gumballs are not to be eaten.  They are old enough that they are more like jaw breakers by now.  Do you think that the little pumpkin stitchery will keep the grandies from sampling?

IMG_8317

I often hear my adult kids asking, “Are these old or new?”

IMG_8318

These non edible cupcakes are one of my favorite Halloween decorations.

My friend, Ann gave me this darling cake stand for my birthday years ago.  Shortly after I was in a local store and spied the cupcake candles.  Just knew they wanted to come home and sit upon my stand.

cupcakes

We have faux cupcakes so why not a faux candy apple?  Can you believe the caramel is hot glue painted tan?  This was a club favor last year.

IMG_8310

Oops, every now and then a little ghoul sneaks in.  Just gotta have a bit of spooky to go along with the sweet.

IMG_8319

This spice rack is turned into a witches potion station.

Ingredients ready to brew up something wickedly delicious.

IMG_8324

More treats ready to eat.

IMG_8308

I got the set of 8 polka dot bowls on clearance for $5 at Thanksgiving Points porch sale.

IMG_8309

There it goes again, a little more ghoul.

IMG_8325IMG_8320

How cute is this pumpkin head girl offering you a sucker?  Another gift from my friend, Ann.  Who cares if the suckers are 3 years old?  The only thing that spoils about suckers are maybe the little kids that eat them.

IMG_8323

No cupcakes, but a jar full of fun liners is pretty sweet don’t you think?

IMG_8316

Some treats are so wickedly good that they can only be made once a year.  Such is the case with licorice caramels.  For the recipe go here, Wonderfully Wicked Treats.

IMG_8327

One last ghoul for you my ghoul friends!  You know, you must experience the bitter to know the sweet!

IMG_8333

I often hear people say they hate it when older children come trick or treating.  I say as long as they are mannerly I don’t care how old they are.  After all, I’m 50 something and I still like candy.  Think anyone would mind if I knocked on their door? lol!

Wicked Wishes,

Jann

Oooooo..so many fun Halloween treats. Love the faux cupcakes! I had to laugh at the "vintage" candy. I have some OLD candy canes I use at Christmas each year, and I'm always afraid someone will sample one. Cute post.

What fun your house must be for the family. I like that you keep them guessing about which candy is new or old! I'm afraid I would get confused myself!! Sally

When I was young we actually received homemade goodies and fruit in our treating bags. But then someone ruined it with razorblades in some apples and that all ended.
Dollar Tree around here has cute things for Halloween decor, even "bones" and gravestones.

Glad to know I am not the only grandma who has "looky no touchy" candy that has been in decorative jars since they were born! In fact, the grands are careful to ask if any candy is "new" candy or "old" candy. I once had a jar of jelly beans for about 20 years! Fun post! =D

I love kids trick or treating of all ages, and still go with my kids every year! I even have people tell me to take candy! When they do, I sure go for it! The memories of my childhood is different from what my kids have, but we love to go the the old downtown neighborhood that my parents live in. The houses are all very old and the sidewalk are filled with crunching leaves! You displays would be hard for any child to resist, old candy or not! Love all the bright happy colors!
Blessings,
Susie

I can't believe all of the Halloween decor you have!! It is so fun and I know the grand kids must love it, as long as they pick the right candy LOL! I remember it as great times too, I used to get so much candy that I would dump my bucket and go back out again, that was the days when kids could run wild with no threat of bad things happening!! Ah, the good old days!

I love carmel corn treats and bought some yesterday along with salted peanuts. I mix them together for a salty/sweet treat. :) You have a LOT of candy in your house! That would be so bad for me. Fun post!

I can see that you love Hallowe'en - your house must be so much fun to visit!

I bet the grands love visiting you! I love Halloween too. The vintage candy made me laugh. I popped a gum ball in my mouth when visiting a friend's theatre room. She had a candy station set up. Nearly broke my tooth! Yep, it was all just for show. Guess I'll ask permission next time. LOL

I am impressed with all the goodies that you have in your jars. If they are uneatable they are easier on the waist line. I am thinking of mine of course. Wonderful display of Halloween fun. Valerie
