Generally speaking I don’t care for the ‘SPOOKY’ Halloween decorations.
But this year I am hosting two parties both with the theme of“Dead and Breakfast”.
Wish I could say that I came up with this clever title all on my own, but nope; that credit goes to Better Homes and Gardens.
I’ll be sharing some of the fun with you after the events.
I decided that I wanted to use a bit of the theme “The Raven” a famous poem by Edgar Allen Poe.
I was so surprised at how many of my friends were not familiar with it and the quote used so often in the poem, “NEVERMORE”
My daughter Kylee helped make the banner. We printed the font on old book pages and she cut them into the banner shape. She found the black raven on The Graphics Fairy blog.
You might remember that I decorated my mantel this year so that I could use it for both Fall and Halloween. I just switched a couple things out.
I added the glitzy black house under the dome to one of my vintage scales. I also added the old shoe form.
The hearth I changed out completely.
This witch is one of my favorite Halloween decorations.
I made this collage using some of picmonkeys fun Halloween effects.
a paper feather and vintage ink bottle sit at her base ready for jotting down a poem.
Edgar, (I mean Mr. Poe) would love the eerie mercury glass jar collection.
And let’s not forget the RAVENS! One sits atop a vintage pillar while the larger one I’ve kept caged in an old birdcage. I’d hate for him to run amuck.
I often ask, “Mr Raven, are you behavin?”
My SIL and I made the witches travel guide. Still have a few pages to finish up. I will be sharing some of what we did inside next week.
One other area has been dedicated to Mr. Poe. It’s the entry to our bedroom. I bought this mirror while vacationing in Oregon. It was marked $15. Half price day so I got it for $7.50. It’s old and rustic, just the way I like it!
The table was given to me years ago by my MIL. It came out of her childhood home.
I picked up the glitzy crows at T.J. Maxx. I placed them on the wall and mirror with pop ups that came with them. I tried to make them look as though they are sitting upon the pumpkin and book. The green lamp I bought at Star Mill Antiques last year.
More picmonkey fun.
I don’t really remember studying the poem “The Raven” in high school. Somehow I’ve just always known about it. Maybe it’s because I look at a lot of magazines. They often talk about it for Halloween. Just not sure, so please don’t ask me NEVERMORE!
leaving you with the last verse of this eerie poem.
And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted - nevermore!
Hugs,
Jann

Hi Jann!
I've been away at the coast and am just now getting to spend some time visiting blogland.
I am always amazed at the variety of clever "props" that you come up with...I love your quill pen! Clever and so original...
I can remember lying in bed with my big sister when I was young. She would read me Poe and Ray Bradbury stories and scare me to death. I've always had a thing about black birds...and, am finally able to welcome them into my home decor.
What fun you post has been...Just taking in all your wit and creativity, my sweet friend.
Have a great weekend and Poe Party!
Carolynn xoxo
I love every single thing here! That witch has to be my favourite but it all goes so well together that Poe would be proud! ~ Maureen

So clever, all the little vignettes are fab. I was thinking about a banner myself and using old book pages is a great idea!

Oh, my gosh! I love the "nevermore" Halloween theme! How creative. Thanks for your beautiful blog.
Hi there...those ravens also jumped into my basket at TJMax but ours are not glittery. I've been spreading them around the house here and there. Cute title for brunch. LOVE the bottle under the cloche...fun idea~
:)
Halloween at your house looks beautiful and elegant. So much better than sppoky.
Hi Jann,
I love you're Edgar themed Halloween, particularly your witch and raven. I loved Edgar, due to my love of horror films and the weird. Beautifully one.

Cute and perfect for Halloween. I don't care for all the "blood and gore" type of decor out there.
You did good on the mirror.
I love this poem! Did you see my post, using it as a theme? You went all out!--I love it!
