Galavanting Goodies!

Last Thursday afternoon a friend, Diana and I took a trip to Star Mill Antiques.  The owner is selling the property and having weekly sales.  I am so sad to say ‘farewell’ to this fun place to find treasures.

I found some fantastic bargains.

He had an area where everything was priced $1.

3 fun milk bottles for $1 each.  I have a milk crate that they will fit perfectly in.  Love the red graphics!

IMG_8356

I loved these little milk glass stemware.  I think they will make cute egg cups.  I’m sure that’s not what they are used for.  Each one is a little different.  I think if I put a bit of moss inside the egg will fit. Again, $1 each.

IMG_8360

My last $1 finds were a couple of turquoise bottles.  This gal loves her turquoise!

IMG_8357

I swooned when I spied this large aqua glass bottom bowl in pristine condition.  A steal for $6.

IMG_8366

IMG_8369

I also picked up a few funky items.  I was hoping that the bottle stoppers would fit my milk bottles, but they were the wrong size.  Still good, 50 cents for all 4.

IMG_8365

How about this vintage light set for $2.  I think they’ll be cute displayed in a jar.

IMG_8372

This was probably my favorite bizarre purchase.  An umbrella skeleton for $5.

IMG_8370

The possibilities are endless with this piece.

You could put it in the garden and plant a vine to grow up it.  But for now I’m thinking it would be so fun to put it in a pot and hang Christmas cards and trinkets from it for the holidays.

Treasure hunting on Thursday just left me in the mood for more. So my cousin, Betty and I went galavanting.  My hubby had gone fishing  and hers was hunting.  It was raining so working in the yard was out.  What else is a girl to do?

On Friday we headed South and hit a thrift store.

I found the yellow Pyrex bowl for $2.99.  The black one I bought at Savers on Sat. for the same price.  I have 3 pink teacups so I was excited to find a 4th to match along with a cute pink bowl.  Both for $1 ea.

IMG_8353IMG_8364IMG_8358IMG_8359

It’s hard to see, but this bottle has the words Hinds Honey and Almond Cream.

Friday was so much fun that we decided to do it again Saturday.  This time we headed North.  I rarely get to go roaming with my cousin.

If you know me then you know that I love anything that has to do with cherries.  This was at a consignment thrift shop for $8.  Love, love it!

IMG_8355

I loved this old stamp holder!  A little more money at $10.  Still too fun to not buy.

IMG_8362IMG_8363

Our last stop was at a Savers store.  $2 for a red bubble glass.  I have one just like it, so now I have a pair.  I even managed to fit it into my green cabinet.

IMG_8361

I got the two poppy plates for $1 ea.  Don’t ask me why it looks like they have orange on them.  They don’t, they are entirely red with a green center.  I have an assortment of poppy dishes that I display in May when my Poppies are in bloom.  I actually picked up the green frog on Friday at an antique store called, Brambles.  It now holds an old photo.

Not bad for a weekend of galavanting fun, ya think?

Share Your Cup Thursday #30

Hello and welcome to Share Your Cup!  What a fun week I have had visiting last weeks links.
So much talent and Inspiration!  Thanks to all of you.

Here are a few that caught my eye.

Lynn at Upcountry Olio gave her bedroom a little tweaking.  You need to visit to see what she used to help create it.
Blue Bedroom 2
I have featured Sally from Salmugundi just recently but I love how she corralled her lucky number in this vintage jar.  Thinking I need to do that with my lucky #’s 7 and 17.

Laura from Cottage and Broom showed us a gorgeous Fall photo of Michigan.
DSC_0045
Priscillas  blog took us on a tour of her Fall home.  There’s lots more to see, including an amazing display of outdoor pumpkins.  But I love this subway runner.

Aimee from Craftmates recently moved into a new home.  She took a break from unpacking to give her front entry some beautiful curb appeal.

Ann from Cairn Cottage showed us her Fall tablescape.  I love the plates with the sentiments.  Believe it or not, she got them at Wal-Mart.

I must admit, I am not a big fan of googly eyes.  But how cute are these created by Bunny Jean from Bunny Jeans Decor and More.

I don’t know which I love more, the eerie window or the rustic red barn wood shared by Ann from Once Upon a Firefly.  I must tell you, this brings back a  scary childhood experience.  My sisters Julie and Jeanne will know exactly what I am talking about.

I’m sure that you noticed that I featured more Fall and Halloween this week.  Just realizing that it will be over in a blink of an eye.
Thanks everyone and please grab my button if you were featured.

French Toast to DIE for!

Here at the Olson’s Dead and Breakfast Inn we have a signature breakfast dish that is literally to die for!

IMG_8294

Pecan (or Macadamia Nut) French Toast

It’s one that is always requested by family members.  You can guarantee that it will be getting a YUM-O from more than a few.

Before I share the recipe I want to show you some of the fun we had at the Inn last Weds. night.

The tables were set and guests came ready to party.  Dressed in their p.j.’s as requested.

IMG_8304

I picked up the purple vases for $2.99 at a discount store some time ago.  After gathering twigs from a nearby field and spraying them black the fun began.

My friend, Ann bought a vase at the same time so together we created a simple Halloween tree.

Ribbons and graphics printed from a Bethany Lowes book I had made the task quick and easy.

IMG_8305

At each setting I placed a peat pot filled with goodies and a witch paper doll my SIL and I created by using head shots of each guest. I needed twelve and she needed 9.  It made it a bit easier when we created two of the same bodies and then swapped.

They are so comical you can’t help but laugh.

IMG_8302

After dinner (breakfast) we played bunko.  Prizes were given and a great time was had by all.

Now for the recipe:

Mix together:  6 large eggs, 1/4 C sugar, 1/2 tsp. nutmeg, 1/2 C Orange Juice, 1 1/2 C Half & Half, and 1 tsp. Vanilla

Cut  a loaf of French bread into 1” thick slices.

Dip in egg mixture and place in a 9x13 pan. (Squish slightly to fit 13-15 slices).  Pour remaining mixture over top.  Cover and refrigerate over night.

In the morning melt  2/3 C Butter, 1 C Brown Sugar, 1/4 tsp. Cinnamon, and 1 Tbs. Corn Syrup in a saucepan.

Remove bread and place on a large 15 x 10 cookie sheet.  Pour a little sauce over top, turn bread and pour remaining.

Bake in 400 degree oven for 10 min.  Turn slices, sprinkle 1/2 cups nuts.  I use pecans and use more like a cup.  Bake 10 Min. longer.

YUM-O!

This is so good it doesn’t even need syrup.  Although you can add it if you want.

Hugs,

Jann

Fall Cloche Party

HI everyone, hope you had a wonderful weekend! Today I am excited to be joining Marty at A Stroll thru Life for her Fall Cloche Party.

If you ask me, there’s just something special about a cloche.

No matter what you place that glass dome over suddenly it becomes more noticeable, magical, and even more eerie.

I realize that a lot of you will have seen most of these in a previous post.

Hopefully their worth seeing for a second time.

I used a couple on my ‘NEVERMORE’ mantel and hearth.

This cloche helped to corral my party animal spider.

IMG_8280

These non edible cupcakes sure look tempting under glass.  They seem to say, “I double dare you to eat me!”

IMG_8312

Now for a little bit of that eeriness that I mentioned. . .

IMG_8319

This sunflower cloche held a sunflower candle.

While a simple pumpkin makes you take notice.

And if one pumpkin is good, three might be even better.

No matter what the season, cloches add visual interest in any room of the house.  Wouldn’t you agree?

Halloween Art Board. . .

Tonight I had so much fun reminiscing about Halloweens past.

You may remember the art board that I made a few months ago.  The other day I decided to tweak it a little for Halloween.

I made a garland out of vintage keys that belong to my youngest daughter, Kylee.  Before they left for Spain she said, “Mom, you can use my old keys to decorate with if you want.”

IMG_8334

I tied them on a strand of jute, added a few ribbons and it was perfect to drape across the top.  And what goes better with a few skeleton keys than a skeleton?  This picture is of my oldest daughter, Nichole who will be 39 in Dec. and my oldest son, Lonnie who will turn 37 on Monday.

IMG_8335

I have had so much fun looking at pictures of my children in their costumes when they were young.

How cute is this?  My Superman and Princess all dressed up for school.  Of course we couldn’t leave the little one out of the pic.

IMG_8339

I don’t know how many of you remember, but you could not buy darling costumes back then.  You either went with the plastic ones with the masks (like the skeleton) or created your own.  I remember sewing costumes or coming up with something like the scarecrow and rocker girl each year.

IMG_8338

Look at that Dracula face on my youngest son, Dalan.  A smile that could kill!

IMG_8337

I think that this is one of the cutest I ever made.

IMG_8340

IMG_8343

A few more that made me smile.  Love Kylees painted face!  Look at the two little ones admiring their older sister, and poor Dalan will never live it down that his mother dressed him as Smurfette.  Yes, Smurfette is a boy. lol!

IMG_8344

What are your kids going to be this Halloween?

Hugs,

Jann
