This is a post I did a while back, but I wanted to share my subway art with the Springtacular party that is going on now.
As I was putting away the Valentines décor this past week I started contemplating about what
exactly I wanted to do now.
It’s A bit too early to decorate for Easter, and I no Longer do the St. Patty’s décor.
I pulled out some of my pastel green and yellow dishes to go on my bowl stand.
Look at this cute polka dot trio that I picked up a while ago at ‘Train Wreck”. I almost passed it up, thinking I didn’t need any more dishes. So glad I didn’t .
I thought, “Now if that doesn’t look like Spring”. That’s when it hit me, I’ll do a “Time for Spring” thing. I am such a theme person. Give me a theme, and I’ll go hog wild. lol!
Even though it’s been a mild Winter, I am counting the days till Spring!
I started gathering clocks I had around the house. I was having so much fun. Then I decided that I needed to make a craft project I had been thinking about.
I wanted to make a dimensional ‘Subway Art’. I bought a 16 x 20 canvas a while ago for $4.50. I went to my stash and started laying out letters and a few Spring odds and ends. At first I thought that I would cover the canvas with scrapbook paper or vintage sheet music. But as I saw how much was going on I knew that would be too busy. I decided to water down some blue paint left from my kitchen island and wash it on the canvas. I then glazed it with a brown glaze. Got just the look I wanted. I had so much fun inking, stamping, and glittering letters. I had come up with words I wanted to use but needed a few more. I googled Spring subway art. From there I got the words Tulips and daffodils. I added A few embellishments. (well maybe a bit more than a few) hopefully I didn’t get too carried away. This is what I came up with.
I didn’t have to buy anything for this project. I had it all. Don’t you love that? Well, actually I did have to go borrow the big SPRING chipboard letters from my sister, Jeanne. I do have some, just couldn’t find where I had put them. UGH! She was nice enough to let me use hers and I’ll give her mine. Guess I’d better get lookin!
The Spring and the S on the word sun look like they are the same color. The Spring is green and the S is golden yellow.
Notice the glare from the sun? Ha-ha, couldn’t pass up that opportunity! Best put on your sunglasses.
Spring is my favorite season! I love the renewal of ‘time’ and how the earth comes to life again!
Here is my subway art now that it’s found a home on my mantel. I made a nest banner last year. Wondering if I should pull it out.
joining my subway art are my nest plates, my birdhouse I bought on a road trip in Idaho, a nest, a red robin, and a few of my clocks. Put them all together and what do you get?
A “Time for Spring” theme!
I don’t know about you, but I am so ready!
I will be sharing a bit more of my theme this week.
Hugs,
Jann

Very good ideas! I'm also good at knowing that I have something SOMEWHERE, but then can't find it. Lucky you have a sister...I just have to go to the store.♥♫
Your mantel is so pretty! I just love the birds and clocks together. Very creative subway art too. I've been thinking about doing a Spring mantel also. Now you've got my wheels turning, lol.

Oh my! I just love those shabby vintage pieces Jann. I particularly love that wooden bird's house.
Happy Monday!
I love your mosaic and the Subway art is great! I may try to make one! And I'm doing the same thing...making projects out of supplies I already have! Feels great, doesn't it! ♥
you are so good at putting together these vignettes. I came away with some really good ideas!
Oh, I'm so looking forward to spring, too! I love your cute polka dot dishes. Those soft greens are so beautiful! Thanks for sharing your talents at MM. :) xoxo
I'm looking forward to spring too, so I think it's a great idea to focus your decorating efforts on the season rather than a particular holiday - you'll enjoy it right through until the season well and truly arrives.
Those green polka dishes look so fresh and springy. I think we're all longing for spring's arrival.
I'm lovin the "Time for Spring" art piece. I do a lot of scrapbooking so all these emblishements are right up my alley. Your clocks and nest look spectacular on the mantel with the picture. Just great. I also love the polka dots in the dishes-perfect. Thanks so much for becomming a follower-right back at ya.

Those new dishes are so pretty! I love anything pastel, so I think those would be wonderful to use year round.
The new artwork is very nice too. I love making art to work with my home decor, so it's nice seeing how other people do theirs. You did a great job Jann!
Thanks for stopping by my blog this weekend.
The subway board is very creative and inspiring. I loved the polka-dot bowls. They are the green of spring. V

Stopping by from Savvy Southern Style, you have some great ideas, and your mantel is so pretty! Really love the birds and the clock too and they look good with each other. Your subway art is very unique. Today I was at the dollar tree and seen all the spring items in the store, so got me in the mood. Following you on Linky and hope you'll follow back.
I think your subway art turned out beautifully! It has color, it has texture, it has sparkle...how could you go wrong?
