For many of us the kitchen is the heart of our home. It’s the place where delicious smells draw people together.
It’s only natural that we want our kitchen to evoke a feeling of love.
With Valentines Day just around the corner my kitchen is filled with even more love than usual.
I’ve filled the counters with my seasonal dishes.
Of course my every day reds work perfectly for Valentines. Even my chippy highchair seems to be dressed for the occasion.
Sentiments of love are tucked in here and there.
My red Kitchen Aid is happy to be put on display.
Showing a little more love is what Valentines is all about. . .I dressed up my faux candles with a paper heart and bakers twine.
My newly found scale holds some ceramic cupcakes. I had to snatch it up because it was so different from any of my other scales.
A thing of rustic beauty!
A handy baking center for whipping up a sweet treat.
A couple containers of goodies. Notice the middle section is empty? I must confess, I ate most of the jelly hearts.
More faux cupcakes. I had m&m’s in the bowl but I used them to make a weekend snack.
A few of my vintage red dishes are on display in my wicker baby scale.
While others hang on my French mug rack with handmade tags, pretty ribbons, and a few tokens of love. Little hearts and such.
Glittery hearts and ticking ribbon hang from the chandelier.
This little vintage Valentine is perfect for my thrift find locks and keys.
Here’s the treat that used up the m&m’s. One batch fills two pretty pink vintage bowls.
There’s even a little love hangin out in the hood. lol!
If you pop in for a visit chances are you’ll find me in the kitchen.
I might even be wearing one of these. I know, I know, it says baskets, but right now aprons are taking center stage.
Now in case your in the mood to share a little ‘love’ in your kitchen. Here’s the recipe for my
Sweet Chex Mix:
1 large box Rice Chex cereal (for this batch I used some rice and some corn)
1 1/2 cubes of butter
1 c. light Karo Syrup
1 c. sugar
1 c. mixed nuts (original recipe called for blanched peanuts)
1 package seasonal m&m’s. (It makes a great neighborhood gift at Christmas time)
Pour Chex cereal and nuts into a large bowl.
Heat butter, Karo, and sugar in a med. sauce pan just until boiling.
Immediately pour over cereal and nuts. Stir well.
After it cools slightly add m & m’s. If you add them when it’s too hot they will melt.
YUM!
*Warning: You can’t eat just one handful!
January is almost over and it won’t be long now.
With love from my kitchen to yours!
Jann
