Play BALL!

What is it about vintage sports balls that is so appealing?

I know I’m not the only one that swoons when they run across them!

Last week I scored when I found a bag of old cue balls at a thrift shop in Tooele for $10.  My sis and I were there for a funeral.  It’s about an hour and a half away so we decided to see if there were any thrift shops before heading back home.

I placed them in a jar in our theater room.  They make me smile!  No windows in this room, so I done my best!

The croquet balls were another thrift find a year or so ago.  Only two, but for 50 cents each I didn’t hesitate.

The old Yahtzee game is another thrift goodie.  Love the graphics!

These are doubly wonderful!  Not only are they sports balls, but they are numbered!

Now do you think that’s all the balls I have for you today?  lol!  Nope, there’s more!

I found these about a month ago.  They were $.75 each.  I didn’t even bother to clean them up.  Loved them as grungy as they might be!  Just imagine the hours of play these beauties have seen!

They look pretty sweet on top of my old blue cupboard along with an old bowling pin, vintage coke cans, and reels.

Only one problem I might have.  I can think of one little (almost 4) grandson that just might have to climb that cupboard to get one of those baseballs.

I figured that by now you are having such a ball that I had better show you one more jar of balls.

These numbered balls still had the Pier 1 tag on them when I scored them at another thrift.  A lady actually had them in her hand.  When she put them back I asked?  “Aren’t you going to buy them?”  She replied, “Oh, no I really don’t know what I would do with them.”  When I said are you sure, because if not, I am.  She said, ‘you go ahead’.

Not knowing what to do with something has never stopped me from buying.  Not always a good thing. Hee-hee!

There’s my lucky #7!

Well, there you have it folks.  My collection of balls.

And I’m sorry, I just can’t resist,

Thrift Stores got balls!

hugs,

Jann

I think you know that I too love old game balls. I have croquet balls that were mine as a child and a reproduction wooden set of pool balls.

Your finds look so cute the way you have displayed them.

You have a great collection of balls. Those baseballs make me think about a early 20th century game maybe with Shoeless Joe Jackson playing. The rest have some great color.

Yes you'd better anchor that cupboard to the wall or put the balls lower, grandma! :)

What a base on balls post! Love all the numbered ones. I cannot believe that lady put them back. I wonder if my dogs tennis ball collection counts?

I can just see you eyeing that other customer with the balls in her hand. Probably watching out of the corner of your eye waiting for her to hesitate so you could snatch them up. Jann, you made me laugh!
