Hello my friends,
I had to hop in and share the wonderful covered bridges we saw today in New Hampshire.
The Scenery driving from one to the next was absolutely breathtaking!
The Hancock-Greenfield bridge built in 1937 is pretty rustic.
I love the reflection in these two photos!
We drove through this stone arch on our way to the next bridge.
The Carlton Bridge was first built in 1789 and has been
rebuilt twice.
This $5 fine sign made me smile!
The Slate Bridge is the same color as the Carlton, but has
a uniquely different shape.
It was originally built in 1862, but rebuilt in 2001.
The Coombs bridge. This is a lattice truss bridge built in 1837.
The inside trusses.
The Thompson bridge is my favorite so far. I also love the story that went along with it.
It was originally built in 1832, but in 1973 it was posted for a six ton load limit which meant school buses could cross but only if empty. When a bus full of students would come to the bridge, the students would get off the bus, walk across the bridge, and reboard the bus on the other side.
Sawyer's Crossing bridge is located near an old Indian community.

We had such a wonderful day and not only did I see gorgeous scenery and visit 6 covered bridges; but I also found fabulous treasures along the way.

Oh, Jann, these pictures are awesome!! They remind me of the 'retirement' trip Wonderful Hubby took me on in 2013 to the NE in the Fall. We didn't see this many covered bridges, though. We'll have to go back! :) I'm glad you two are enjoying yourselves!! Zenda

Oh Jann, your Fall photos are absolutely gorgeous! And those covered bridges, wow so many! We only have one left here in Mid Missouri and probably not too many more in the whole state! I like the school bus story about the kids, that is funny!

I love the covered bridges found in the USofA! Reminds me of the movie "Bridges of Madison County". What glorious scenery along the way......and of course you found some treasures!! Can't wait to see what treasures you happened upon!!

Oh how lovely is the season of autumn. Love the explosion of colours and the soft light. The first bridge reminds me of the movie Bridges of Madison County. You are lucky to have access to these beautiful bridges.

Beautiful covered bridges! The fall colours and the water are also beautiful. We have about 60 covered bridges in our province of New Brunswick. They are wonderful to see but we are losing them fast due to flooding and fire. Thanks for sharing these beauties with us. Have a great week!

Oh Jann thanks for taking me along. I love covered bridges in fact we have one about a mile from my house. It is one of only a few left in Georgia that is in use, heavy use too. Enjoy your trip!

How fun! Love seeing those old covered bridges and the stone archways. I got a chance to experience some of this in Pennsylvania. That's pretty funny about the kids having to get off the bus to cross the bridge! That's a story they probably told a lot throughout their lives!

I have been to quite a few of them myself as I am from Massachusetts and lived in N.H. (on the seacoast) for 25 years. You chose the perfect month to visit. There is no other place I've seen that has prettier October's than New England. That being said, I would stay away from Salem, MA. in October. I'm glad you enjoyed it and got such beautiful pictures for us to enjoy.

Still immersed in Halloween - finishing a party game and then looking into food! This crazy stuff keeps me going - like gardening for Judy and school for Kc and quilting for Debra! Lots of work, everything, but would we want to do anything else? Oh heck no!

Being from Nova Scotia, Canada this is the type of scenery I am used to seeing and miss so much here in Illinois! We have quite a few covered bridged on the East Coast of Canada too. The history is just amazing!

The bridges remind me of New Brunswick which is where I am from originally. Everyone who comes to the Island claims that the Maritime provinces; NB, Nova Scotia, and PEI, remind them of New England. Hubby and I went to New Hampshire on our honeymoon many years ago. It was the first time we had ever seen a real mountain. We even drove up the White mountains. It was beautiful and so are your pictures. Thanks for sharing.
