Accidental Collection

Well my friends, have you ever accidentally collected something without even trying?

That's exactly what I have done with this cabinet full of blue and white dishes.

I'm sorry that the photos aren't the best.  It's in my basement, and kind of a dark day.  I should have taken them this morning, but I headed out the door early.

It started off when I found a set of 4 pretty plates, saucers, and cups.  As many of you know, I collect cherry dishes for my basement kitchen.  Because my hoosier is edged in blue I thought it might be fun to mix some blues in now and then.

Really didn't plan to pick up anymore blue and whites.  But then, I spied this cute little coffee pot on a stove and some bowls with what else?  None other than cherries.

Saucers and cups that matched the plates.

Gosh, I have a love for enamelware so when I spied this coffee pot one day I couldn't pass it up.

Oh, and we all could use a creamer, right?  :)

And Pyrex, can't leave that sitting on the thrift shelf!  And more plates.  Each one is unique and sweet!

If one creamer is good, how about two, or three?  Especially if one is a cow.

Now the pitcher and bowls with the stripe I have had for years.  Just when I started gathering everything together to fill this cupboard after Christmas I knew they needed to be included.

Even the Morton Salt girls know that when it comes to collections, sometimes when it rains it pours!

This sweet teacup was today's find.

See the pretty platter?  I found that on Tuesday.  I was surprised to find that it was tin when I picked it up.

My friend, Amanda gifted these little cuties to me a few weeks ago.

I may not have intentionally collected blue and white dishes, but somehow I've managed to do it anyway.  lol!

On the top right now is another unintentional collection of browns.

This cabinet is where I usually house my collection of plaid thermoses and tins.  I'll be pulling them back out for summer.

I plan to sell at the vintage sale, "Fleology" in May.  Wondering if I should just box all this up and take it to the sell?  That way I can keep on treasure hunting.  The hunt is as much fun as the find!

Have you got an accidental collection?

hugs,
Jann

I really like your "accidental" collection. My blue & white pieces were gathered quite accidentally, too. I just have a really hard time passing them up.

Oh boy, I'd love to find me with such an awesome "accidental" collection of gorgeous blue and white, actually eye candy... and why is it in the basement???
Actually, I do know what you mean, you see, I used to buy pretty Delft things at the Antique European shop around here and are mostly blue, so I started to really like it and so I got to purposely look for blue!
Enjoy your weekend sweet lady.

Jann,
Love your Accidental Blue & White Collection, dear friend!
I do believe that's how my Ironstone Oval Platter Collection began!
However, if it's time for the two of you to part ways,
I'm sure you'll enjoy the "thrill of the hunt" for something "new to you"!
Fondly,
Pat

You have a lovely collection, Jann! My collections seem to start with realizing I'm doing it, too!

Your accidental collection is great! I have a bad habit of finding one little thing I like and the next thing I know, I'm hunting each nook and cranny for more. And then - I suddenly have a collection.

I'm always amazed when a collection just kind of makes itself known! After Mark passed away I 'found' many of his collections that still make me laugh. Flashlights, pocket knives and tape measure to name a few...and believe me...there are MORE than just a few of each! You blue/white are very pretty and a lovely collection! Blessings, Cindy xo

I could do fifty blogposts on blue&white anything---lol...so I totally understand the disease....now ...LOVE the JohnsonBros..blue and white pattern. I think it's called Nordic? or nordicware? might be wrong..but is very reminiscent of some of the Danish Patterns. And I have three pieces of enamelware to match your coffeepot...grins they were my grandmother's. Cool start of a major...disease. Sandi

That's a beautiful accidental collection. My red and white transferware started with a plate I bought for $3 and grew from there so I guess it was a little bit accidental. After 20 years I still love all of it and want more. :)

I love accidental collections and of course I love all of your blue and white. That little blue coffee pot on top of the stove is adorable.

I am trying to not buy any more "stuff" for our house and just rotate things around, but all that blue and white would be difficult to pass up.

I would love to buy your whole cupboard full of the blue and white pretties for my kitchen, even though I do not have a wall to put it on! It is just so pretty. I had been dreaming of a bread board collection and before I knew it, I have a whole collection now. I just keep finding them.

Your Pillsbury dough boy made me giggle. You dishes are so pretty. Sometimes a collection just comes to be!

Yes, I am afraid I have too many accidental collections, because I'm a little crazy! :) Crazy for old things, and not so old!
Your blue and white collection is wonderful, and looks fun in that cupboard. The Pillsbury doughboy brought back memories of when I collected him! I had a kitchen and dining room full of him! I even dressed up as him for Halloween at work one year! lol

My blue and white collection is also "accidental", I just cannot not buy the pretty ones I find! Your collection is lovely, I really like the "Finlandia" pieces.

Dear Jan:
Blue is one of the favorite colors people love! (to be inclusive - notice I didn't just say women)! It is fresh and clean looking. I don't do blue but hey, we can't do every color can we?

I love your accidental collection, so many beautiful pieces. I'm not sure if I have an accidental collection or not, I can't think of one at the moment but it will be interesting to see if one develops eventually. Have a great week, Kelly.

I think most of my collections started out as accidental collections.

Hi Jann,
I too have an accidental collection of blue! I started off with a teapot, a cup and saucer and the matching creamer. Now I have a nice collection but no where near as large as yours. You have some wonderful pieces and I love your cow creamer! I have one in red. I usually collect the pink/red but the blue just kinda started to grab me too. Thanks for sharing and have a beautiful day.

Blessings,
Sandi

You are a girl after my own heart ;) I too love blue & white dishes, and actually blue & white anything! I started with a few blue & white plates from a great aunt. Then my wedding set was blue & white. Things were added (intentionally!) and then I inherited my mom's blue & white plates too. I finally had to paint the kitchen blue & white ... couldn't be happier with it all!
