Share Your Cup #305 and Possible Changes

Hello and welcome to Share Your Cup, (SYC for short).

The party where you share what makes you happy.

It's what I call, "filling your cup".

It's hard to believe that it's September and fall will soon be here.

The weather is cooling and I am really enjoying that!

We are harvesting a bounty of produce from our garden. Plus, my sweet cousin has furnished me with lots of cucumbers.
I shared the recipe for one of my favorite summer

I also took you on a tour of my garden for our

Now before I show this weeks features I'd like to discuss some possible changes with you and would really like your feedback.

Each week there are more and more links that do not have a link back to Share Your Cup.

I think that there are less than a third of you that do add one to your posts.  I know that times are changing.
Call me old fashioned, but I've always considered it to be common courtesy to do that.  I have always taken the time to do it to any party I link up to.

Each week I spend time trying to see if blogs have a link page or a link back.  It takes quite a bit of extra time.
When I first started blogging, I considered it a real honor to be featured on someone's blog.
I don't think it still holds the same stigma that it use to.
So I'm considering doing away with features.
How do you feel about it?  Do you really care?  :)

Now for the features from SYC #304:
(remember to pin from their site and not mine)

Pam from Everyday Living shared beautiful images of Reflections.

Amber from Yellow Brick Home shared her beautiful Victorian quilt made from hankies.

Virginia from Artsy Va Va shared how she's in the Navy with her table redo.

Debbie from Mountain Mama shared her busy weekend of bottling and baking.

Thanks for sharing and please grab my button if you were featured.

hugs,

Good morning, Jann. Thank you for hosting and for featuring my Reflections post. I know that you spend a lot of time reading all of the posts that are linked, and you are the best commenter ever. I appreciate your gracious and kind comments and all the work that you put into it. I count it an honor to be featured on your blog, but follow your heart and do what is best for you!

I have been blogging for a long time, but I'm still learning about linking, so I may not be doing it right. I used to have a link to the linkups I participate in in my sidebar, but I've moved it to a tab along the top now. If I'm ever featured, I definitely provide links back. I have another tab along the top about places I've been featured, so people can see where I was featured (and the link to it) permanently. I hope I'm doing it right and that's what you're looking for. I wouldn't want to do it wrong because I do honor all the time you spend hosting. Links are easy, but code throws me off because I'm afraid of permanently rewriting something on my blog that I can't undo--but links sidebars and tabs and posts I can definitely do. Thanks for hosting this great linkup and for always reading and commenting on my posts.

P.S. I always tweet, too, each time I post something in SYC because then all my followers on Twitter can find you, too.

I appreciate you hosting and always (to the best of my knowledge) link back on my post. I think some people just link and run though. Not sure what you can do about it without a tremendous amount of work on your part...

Hi Jann, I'm low-tech and have no clue about linkbacks and such. I just make it a point to visit lots of links in any linkup I participate in, though I fear that many people simply "link and run." Thank you for hosting every week. It's such fun.

Hi Jann,

Thanks so much for the feature!!! I, for one, truly appreciate when I am featured on anyone's blog. Unfortunately I don't have the time I'd love to in order to spend more time blogging, and any features I get sure do help bring people to my little blog! Thanks again, sweet friend!
xoxo

Hi Jann, I seem to barely blog anymore rather than link up. I think we started our blogs about the same time and became blog friends. There are a couple comments I want to make. Whenever I joined in your party (or any link-up) I always did the link back, common courtesy at the minimum! Then I went to visit several blogs and left comments. In return, I hardly got any visits or comments, sometimes none. It seemed too many who joined in were there for self promotion only, with no interest in what others were sharing or doing. This may sound harsh, but a blogger joining in several hosted link-ups, skipping visiting and commenting, is rudely doing just that.

I'm sorry for all the blogger friends we have lost, but yes, times and things do change. Great to see you doing well!

Hugs, Pam

Jann, thank you for creating such a lovely link party each week. I imagine that it takes quite a bit to host it and, like any good guest at a party should do, I link back to you each time I join to thank you for the party. I don't always leave a comment, but I really enjoy each one. I've been blogging for less than 2 years, and I'm thrilled when featured by any of the parties I participate in. In addition, I definitely see an increase in the number of visitors when one of my posts is featured. Thank you!

I remembered my link back this week. Sorry that I goofed last week... too many things running through my head.

I don't get to do many link up parties because of lack of time but I do love them. I'm always afraid someone will leave an inappropriate link and we might be exposed to adult material. Anyway,I'm not sure what you should do. I think it's rather inconsiderate for someone to leave a link without a link back. All one has to do is say they are linking to Share Your Cup. I discovered it's easier than I thought.

Hi Jann! I am always thrilled and excited when one of my posts are featured. I'm still amazed that someone thought it was special enough to feature. That being said, I have two pages at the top of my blog. One is for link parties where they are listed along with the day they go live. The other is for features where I link the post and the blog that featured it. I also put a link on the blog post that was featured.
I DO understand your frustration and encourage you to do what works best. I'll still show up to the party! ;)

Hello lovely Jann, It is always a delight to visit your Share a Cup and see what beautiful blogs are featured. I think it is a courtesy to have a link so that others may find your beautiful place. Have a beautiful day, beautiful lady.♥

Jann, I've been blogging ten plus years and I've seen many changes. I can't even keep up with the changes any longer--lol--but I do what I can. I always include a link back at the end of my post to whomever I link up to for the week. Some blog parties I've linked up to for years and have never been featured even once. I do look at features and often click through if I missed them. It is really up to you as whether you should keep features or not, as it is your blog and you should set your own rules for it.

Hi Jann, I'm sure I've forgotten to add the link a few times, but I do try to remember to put it in since I know what it's like hosting a party! thanks so much for hosting each week!

I like link backs because they help me find more parties! I always have a list at the bottom of my posts hoping it helps others too. Please do whatever works for you and know that folks will always join in. I understand and appreciate the time you spend on your blog:@)

Jann, I do feel it an honor to be featured on this link party that you so graciously host and comb through each week to find beauty for all of us to enjoy. I also feel very strongly about those who do not link back. There's no excuse for bad manners, and I would delete those I spent the time trying to determine if they link or not. I hope you will continue the feature party, and teach those with poor manners a thing or two. Apparently they won't learn any other way.
Have a great weekend.

Jann, I not only appreciate you hosting, but how kind and generous you are about leaving a comment. To bee honest, without the possibility of being featured, I would probably loose the incentive to link. I include the list and links to all the parties I participate in at the bottom of each appropriate post. That's where I also post your lovely graphic when a post is featured. When I am never or rarely featured I will stop participating in a link party --- I just figure I'm not that host's cup of tea LOL. I do find the link interface for your party more time-consuming to use than others as it doesn't autofill the info.

Hi Jann- I always link back because that’s how it was taught to me and it only seems fair to you. You are terrific about following up and commenting on my posts which I really appreciate. Being featured is a nice but there may be some who feel slighted if they’re never get chosen. It’s a mixed bag on that subject. I have joined many blog parties that don’t choose featured posts so it seems to be totally up to the host.

I am just a reader, not a blogger and actually love the features as I dont have time to look at many of the link ups. but if it's too much work for you then do what works best for you. Too bad good manners are not used to link back. Pamela

Jann, I appreciate all the time and effort you take to host this party on your own, week after week. I'm with Share Your Style with 21 Rosemary Lane and now we've added more co-hosts. We rotate taking turns, but when it's our turn, I literally go through everyone of them, even if we have nearly 300 or more. I know I love it when we share the features we love each week, and I love it when I'm featured in other parties. We use InLinkz and I don't know if Linky Tools has anything that will only permit those who have a link back to your site to link up and if they don't then they can't. If they don't have a link, is there an easier way to find out and omit them? In the end, it will all depend on what you feel comfortable doing or not doing. I love your party and I do look forward to see what is featured each week because it might have been one that I unfortunately overlooked. HUGS for you on your big decision!

Your friends have been great - base line is it is your party and you should do what you need to do - if it is less time working the party then cut back what you can.

Picking and linking and adding features is a big job and made harder if there is no link back.

Comments are from you friends by and large - and you are a dear friend Jann. You always visit back and leave a comment and I will tell you Jann it is very much appreciated.

I am finding that if a party is HUGE I often skip joining in, on the good bet that no one with be looking at the posts that are shared but instead rush on to the next party. I could be wrong, just my opinion.

I would rather have you hold a party and visit back more than showcasing features (although yes I love the features) than not have your party.

Hugs.

Joy

I'm a day off in linking up, Jann! I always love seeing the features, but I would say that it's totally up to you, as you are our gracious hostess. You always visit and comment and I appreciate that. Thank you for all that you do. xo

You absolutely should require a link back. I'm sure accidents can happen and it's an honest mistake, but yes, it's exactly the right thing to do. How would others find the other cool things to connect to without it?

Thank you for hosting the party every week. Thanks, too, for featuring my navy table this week. I can only imagine how much time it takes for you to go through each link up to pick features. I'm fine with whatever you choose to do that is best for you. Other than the obvious reason of liking features(which is being one), is that I get to see some great things that I may have missed if someone linked up after me. Thanks for all you do! Have a great weekend.

Dear Jann, golly how disappointing to provide great exposure for bloggers---and then they don't do the link back or visits. Personally, Share Your Cup has always been one of my favorites---for the great variety and some really 'down home' bloggers. I can't really fathom the work that goes into---doing one of these parties---but I consider it a privilege to be allowed to post here, and have tried to follow all the rules---I visit many from this party every week, pinning and FBing many rather than writing a note.

Since we have similar tastes, I would miss the fun features, as I often look at both the features and many of the new links. But, you have to do what is best for the party and your own blog. Thanks for all your hard work, it is appreciated! Sandi

Hi Jann,

I hope all is well and thank you for hosting and sharing. Your home is one of my favorite place here in blogland. In my case, whenever I join any party, I understand the courtesy of linking back and of course leave a word or two after. I am always happy when my dish is being featured anyway.

Have a great weekend

Hi Jann. I have put a link to the party but also added a page at the top of my blog and have included your blog address there. That way it doesn't slide down the page and get lost among posts.

I thank you for all your hard work. I have been blogging for a while but don't know the other stuff. I know I am bad and I need to learn how to do the other stuff. I have trouble putting my blog on my pintrest.

Thanks for hosting and I hope that you are having a wonderful weekend.

Hi, Jann: I've been enjoying your party for so long that I automatically do a link back to your blog at the end of all my posts - and it's easy. I love looking at the features and it's a real thrill to BE featured, but I also can see how it is a big time investment for you every week. So I think you should do whatever works for you. I just appreciate the party!
