A Mini Tea

Hello my friends,

A while ago I spied two cute espresso sets at our local thrift.  They were in their original package and had never been used.

Well now, I am not a coffee drinker let alone espresso.

but
they were so sweet and do you know what an espresso set is to a child?
A tea set just their size.

Last Friday I was babysitting my 5 year old granddaughter.
It was a chilly day so I thought it would be fun to throw a
mini tea
for
Saydee and me!

I must confess that when I asked her if she wanted a mini tea at first she thought I was talking about Minnie Mouse.

I was worried that she would be so disappointed but no, her face just lit up when I explained it to her.

Although she was a little sad that we couldn't have it outside.

She was so eager to help set this little table and we quickly ran upstairs to get a hat.

Grandma has all kinds of fun stuff in the dress up closet.
We even found some pretty little gloves.

She opted out of wearing the boa.
"Not today grams"

The little floral cups and saucers were so sweet and the bunny mallow just about didn't fit.

You see our mini tea was really hot cocoa.

Nothing homemade but grammy always has cookies in the house.  Grandpa is a bit of a cookie monster.

Saydee was ever the little lady!

She sipped and tried so hard to hold her cup properly.

She was even very careful not to get bunny marshmallow on her face.

Saydee was sad that Grandma couldn't be in the photos.

So reluctantly I handed her the camera.

Of course I had to have a hat and gloves as well.  I mean after all, it's a mini tea.

As we sipped and talked Saydee said,
"This was the best tea ever!"

Then she paused a moment and said, "Well maybe not the best ever because we couldn't go outside."

Have you taken the time to play lately?
It's ever so fun!

hugs,
Jann

You two ladies are both lovely in your finery. As mothers we were too busy for the enjoyment of a good afternoon tea time, being a grandma is so much easier.

That face and those little white gloves...too precious!

How cute! I only have 3 20+ yr old grandsons so missed tea parties with a granddaughter. Perfect. Please come and link to my Tuesday Cuppa Tea meme! This post would fit right in! It's up now!

Oh Grandma,
You brought tears to my eyes! Your baby girl is so beautiful. You, too, are beautiful. I don't like photos of myself. I see my wrinkles, my extra pounds, my graying and thinning hair. My children see the love in my eyes and the arms that hug them and the hands that make the tea and cookies.

Blessings to you from Harvest Lane Cottage,
Laura

You're making such good memories for a sweet grandchild. I'm afraid all my granddaughter remembers of those years is that on special noons, we would eat our mac and cheese on a footstool in the living room and watch Scooby Do on TV!! LOL Sally

How precious and what a fun Grandmother you are! She's just adorable and I love that she played along!
This made me snicker as it brought up a memory of a friend and I and how we used to pretend to be having a little tea party using water- eventually it ended up with us both getting wet (in the garage)! LOL... so much for being dainty!

I hope your Sayde will remember this special event with you.

Quite a few years ago I did something similar in a tea room/coffee shop I was involved with for my oldest Grand daughter who was about 5 at the time. We claimed a small shop table..ordered our tea and BISCOTTI ...she turns 22 this month and I plan to drive [3 hours] over to Georgia and surprise her-treating her to lunch at the most perfect little place in their town[ called 'The Perfect Pear"...and it is!

Well, that little Saydee is as cute as she possibly can be, Jann! I so enjoyed reading about your tea party--our Baby Love and I have had some fun ones (then her little brothers want to join in...that somehow changes the mood, but it's fine :) ) And how funny that I go down to your previous post and it's Peter Rabbit! When your party is "up" I'll be adding my Peter Rabbit birthday party post! You'll see that I love Peter Rabbit too, and that I have a little sweetie in my post too! Great to be a grandmother, isn't it?? :)

Fun visiting with you this evening! ~Zuni

Ohhhh Jann, You and Saydee are adorable in your hats and gloves. It just makes me miss my sweet granddaughter so much - since they have moved to Colorado - I miss out on so much fun. She is a teenager now - but those years when she was a little one were just too fun. I think she would still love a teaparty! You know - I went to a high tea in CO several years ago - maybe when we visit there we can go together. You inspired me! Such a happy day you captured!

Oh my goodness! This just melted my heart! Little Saydee is such a beauty! And your tea party was the stuff that "grandma and me" memories are made of. And the little bunnies! No ordinary marshmallows for the two of you!
My oldest granddaughter is four. We haven't tea partied yet. You've inspired me! That's next on my list!
Please hug that little angel for all of us!

Oh, Jann, everything about this is adorable! Saydee will remember and cherish her fun times with you, I'm sure. Some of my favorite childhood memories revolve around afternoons at my grandmother's, waiting for it to be "coffee time" so that I could sip milk out of the demitasse cup that she kept in her china cabinet just for me. Hope you have a great week! --Fran :)
