Just The Way You Are!

Sometimes when we get vintage items we have the thought of repainting or changing it in someway.

Now, I’m not here to tell you that’s wrong.  In fact I have done that myself more than once.

But, every now and then it’s nice to leave something just the way it is.

I recently purchased this table for $25.  My friend, Peggy saved it when Roberts, the store she was working at was going out of business.  Every time a business closes it’s doors I feel a bit of sorrow.  I remember when my partner, Diana and I closed our business, “County A’Peel’.  I had all kinds of emotions.  Some happy and some sad.  My hubby had been activated for Desert Storm and I had 5 children.  Knowing that I needed to be home with them I was certain that it was the right thing to do.  Although I felt sorrow because I would deeply miss the connection that I had developed with so many people.

This is the conversation hubby and I had when he helped me carry the table in from the garage.  Hubby, “the top boards are loose and warped”.  Me, “Yeah”.  Hubby, “It’s missing a drawer”.  Me, “Yeah” Then I proceeded to tell him that I loved it just the way it was and that a lot of other people had also.  In fact so many people wanted to buy it when it was in the store that Peggy had written right on it, Display Only.

When I was cleaning it I turned it over and found this. Fun that it was made right here in Provo, Utah.  I also found  some chewed up gum, but I didn’t snap a pic. lol!

After our conversation he did glue and clamp some of the boards down.

I also placed it with the missing drawer side towards the wall so no one would really know.  Except for you, because I just told you. hee-hee!

I  admit that it is pretty primitive.  I must confess that I thought of houndstoothing the top (I saw this on a blog), darling.  Or even painting it cream and applying a French graphic.  But for now, my friends and I decided that I should leave it just the way it is.

Don’t you just LOVE the legs?  The time worn paint is priceless.  Couldn’t achieve this look no matter how hard I tried.

Now to show you a couple other things that I love just the way they are.

My neighborhood friend, Evelyn dropped these two beauties off to me this morning.  FREE!  I think she deserves some cookies.  They belonged to her husbands grandfather and no one in the family wanted them.  Can you believe that?  Evelyn is a real sweetheart.  She is one of the first people that befriended me when we moved into our new home.

I can just imagine him fishing with his tackle box by his side.  My hubby is an avid fisherman, so I am going to use one in his office.  I think it will be fun to hold bills and such.  the other one will probably end up outside as a planter.

This is the one that I will use in the office.  I love the rounded top.  And that hole, what character! I may line the removable tray with a piece of a map.  Here I go changing it already. lol!

This one is really rusty.  Don’t think it will mind hanging out in the garden one bit.

When I get my table decked out with a vignette and my tackle boxes have found their home I will show you.  It may be a while on the table because we just bought bead board for the room that it’s in.

Hubby and I aren’t quite as speedy as we use to be. lol!  Seems like it takes us twice as long to get anything done anymore.

Remember, remember, (Jann) mama always said, “Patience is a Virtue”!

Hope that when I get old and worn out that no one will try and change me.  Hey, probably wouldn’t work if they tried.  Just hope that they will love me just the way I am!  Wrinkled, chubby, and cuddly.
