Sometimes when we get vintage items we have the thought of repainting or changing it in someway.
Now, I’m not here to tell you that’s wrong. In fact I have done that myself more than once.
But, every now and then it’s nice to leave something just the way it is.
I recently purchased this table for $25. My friend, Peggy saved it when Roberts, the store she was working at was going out of business. Every time a business closes it’s doors I feel a bit of sorrow. I remember when my partner, Diana and I closed our business, “County A’Peel’. I had all kinds of emotions. Some happy and some sad. My hubby had been activated for Desert Storm and I had 5 children. Knowing that I needed to be home with them I was certain that it was the right thing to do. Although I felt sorrow because I would deeply miss the connection that I had developed with so many people.
This is the conversation hubby and I had when he helped me carry the table in from the garage. Hubby, “the top boards are loose and warped”. Me, “Yeah”. Hubby, “It’s missing a drawer”. Me, “Yeah” Then I proceeded to tell him that I loved it just the way it was and that a lot of other people had also. In fact so many people wanted to buy it when it was in the store that Peggy had written right on it, Display Only.
When I was cleaning it I turned it over and found this. Fun that it was made right here in Provo, Utah. I also found some chewed up gum, but I didn’t snap a pic. lol!
After our conversation he did glue and clamp some of the boards down.
I also placed it with the missing drawer side towards the wall so no one would really know. Except for you, because I just told you. hee-hee!
I admit that it is pretty primitive. I must confess that I thought of houndstoothing the top (I saw this on a blog), darling. Or even painting it cream and applying a French graphic. But for now, my friends and I decided that I should leave it just the way it is.
Don’t you just LOVE the legs? The time worn paint is priceless. Couldn’t achieve this look no matter how hard I tried.
Now to show you a couple other things that I love just the way they are.
My neighborhood friend, Evelyn dropped these two beauties off to me this morning. FREE! I think she deserves some cookies. They belonged to her husbands grandfather and no one in the family wanted them. Can you believe that? Evelyn is a real sweetheart. She is one of the first people that befriended me when we moved into our new home.
I can just imagine him fishing with his tackle box by his side. My hubby is an avid fisherman, so I am going to use one in his office. I think it will be fun to hold bills and such. the other one will probably end up outside as a planter.
This is the one that I will use in the office. I love the rounded top. And that hole, what character! I may line the removable tray with a piece of a map. Here I go changing it already. lol!
This one is really rusty. Don’t think it will mind hanging out in the garden one bit.
When I get my table decked out with a vignette and my tackle boxes have found their home I will show you. It may be a while on the table because we just bought bead board for the room that it’s in.
Hubby and I aren’t quite as speedy as we use to be. lol! Seems like it takes us twice as long to get anything done anymore.
Remember, remember, (Jann) mama always said, “Patience is a Virtue”!
Hope that when I get old and worn out that no one will try and change me. Hey, probably wouldn’t work if they tried. Just hope that they will love me just the way I am! Wrinkled, chubby, and cuddly.
Hugs,
Jann

I can see the charm in that table, too. I'm glad hubby let it stay. hehehe
Ohhhh, love the table!!!! I brought home a piece that is in the same state as your table. My husband though doesn't understand my love of chippiness.
When I asked him to bring it upstairs for me, he said, you are going to clean this up, aren't you?!?!
It's a cute little piece and I later found out what it was used for, to hold the chamber pot on one side, and it has drawers on the other side.
I can't wait for flea season to start!!

Love the table! Anxious to see how you do your boxes..my cousin brought one to me to use.
All your goodies for today are very primitive. There is great possibilities for them tho.
Oh my, don't touch that table with a paint brush. It's fabulous just like it is. Loooove it!!

I love the table just the way it is. A little bit of well used history is being saved and it looks wonderful. Great tackle boxes! I love to find them while out thrifting. I use them for everything! Thank you for joining TTF and I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
I really love that table....what a find!!! I was at a sale the other day that had tackle boxes and they wanted way over my budget, but I thought about getting a couple. Happy VTT
Oh, I love all your finds!
Just by reading your posts, you seem so bubbly all the time. Can't wait to see the new look of these items.
Love it too, you should keep it as is... and I honestly didn't know Roberts went out of business! Shows how far away from life I really am :( Can't wait to see how flowers will look in the rusted one. Can't wait for flower planting weather!

Your tables a real find. I would just live with it for a while, then it will come to you how to finish the top.
Cool tackle boxes!
Hi Jann,
I love the title of this post!!
The table has worked hard for its natural patina! I think you are right just leave it the way it is... It is just the perfect size!
The tackle boxes are cool and for free well you can't beat that!
Have a great day today!
All the Best,
Christine
These are all great just the way they are!
I love the sentiment behind this post! There is beauty in the imperfect.

Love your post on the this very sentimental table, for me anyway. I share great times with it and protected it from being thrown away many times. It makes me happy to know it has found a home that knows it is a keeper.
O.K..i Love..the sunflower pillow..
