Every time hubby is tinkering in the garage he asks me if I am ever going to do anything with this old lamp. Well last Friday was his lucky day. It’s not completely finished but at least it made it out of the garage.
It’s hard to tell from the picture, but it is wooden and has been painted kind of a gold color with blue bands. It has an awesome cast iron base with embossed flowers.
The upper scroll piece that holds the shade is brass. I kind of like that just the way it is.
I pulled out my trusty spray paint and sprayed it white.
Then I sanded it quite heavily and waxed it with AS wax, both dark and clear.
Love it, but if you ask me this is the best part. I pulled out my acrylic paints and did this to the flowers. I didn’t worry about painting the edges of the flowers, just the tops. I knew that the wax would grab there and create magic. It did not disappoint.
Now I am asking myself, “this was so fun, what took you so long to do it?” Oh, and it’s still not complete.
Next on the agenda is to decorate this shade with bits of vintage lace and such. Hopefully it won’t take me as long as it did to get to the lamp.
So what do you think? Do you like my lamp so far?
Hugs,
Jann

It's a beautiful lamp, Jann. I like your idea of painting the flowers colors instead of all white.
Great idea of bring the flowers to life with color. I can't wait to see what you do with the shade - are we tying in florals in any way?
Nice redo ! I also like the flowers painted. I am looking forward to see how you use the shade. Several years ago, I had a vintage lamp designed like that and could not find a shade that would work.
Enjoy your day.
Oh I love it...especially the way the flowers turned out...what a beautiful way to repurpose and reuse.
I love the lamp so far! What wax do you use? Also, I love the cherry banner at the top of your blog. Have a great day, Jean
OMG those flowers just pop, how gorgeous! It looks wonderful what a great piece.
Love it! Do you ship???? just kidding!!....Love the flowers, that was a great idea...and a lace or doily shade will be darling.
I agree: not a disappointment in the least! Adorable... so far!
I love this, especially the painted flowers! What a wonderful makeover. You needed to wait because if you had done it earlier, you might not have had these great ideas. Can't wait to see the shade. Ann

What a wonderful transformation! The painted flowers are "genius". You've got the knack, Girl!
I really like the lamp and really like how you painted the flowers on the base
Now take strips of white lace and tie up and down on the shade , cover the entire shade in lace
Thanks for visiting my blog! I like what you did to your vintage lamp. Very pretty! Cheers!
The lamp came out lovely! Great project. I get many planned as well and never seem to get to them.
THAT IS SO AWESOME!!!!
You have done an amazing job, how exciting, well done, whoo hoo!!
LOL~ I thought you were going to turn it into something for the garden! Nice painting work, Jann. IKR, sometimes projects sit on the sidelines and once you begin you think 'why did I wait this long?' :)
Happy Monday~
