Bowl Me Over!

Hi friends, the last little while I have been having a bowl fetish.  My question is, how does one decide whether or not it is a collection or an addiction?

After all, to collect one must add, right?

A couple years ago a friend picked up this Pyrex bowl for me at a yard sale.  She knew that I would love the turquoise color.

She was right, I loved it; but at the time I had no thoughts of collecting more.

But then I happened across the large one that matched.  How could I pass it up?  Next came the mini casserole.  I recently found out from a blog friend, Erica from Golden Egg Vintage that the pattern is called ‘Butter Print’.  I had no idea.  The small bowl on top is Fire King and not Pyrex.  I had never heard of Fire King until I started blogging.  I bought it at a thrift store in Oregon.  Didn’t realize it was Fire King until I got home.  Just liked the color and graphics.  I use these for every day use.

Now I couldn’t stop there, could I?  How could I resist the cute colors of this set?  My friends, Aunt Bunny sold the set of 3 to me for $15.  The bottom bowl is not Pyrex, but it is old.  I paid $15 for it at an estate sale.  Again, loved the color. A couple of the bowls sit on vintage saucers that once belonged to hubbies grandmother, Tula.  Don’t you love that name?

Enough already?  Ha, ha what do you think?  I have no pink in my kitchen what so ever.  But oh these are so cute for Spring!

IMG_7658

Found out that this pattern is called, ‘Gooseberry’.

IMG_7659

One always needs a stripe to go with a pattern, right?

IMG_7662

I have come to the conclusion that if I happen upon anymore pink Pyrex that I could pass it up.  Turquoise is a different story.

Now these aren’t bowls, but how cute are these fridgies?

IMG_7654

My favorite, of course are the turquoise and red. My kitchen and family room colors are red, turquoise, and green.

But won’t these earth tones be cute for Fall?  Notice that I do use them?  The orange one has crushed pineapple in it.

Well there you have it, my newest addiction collection.

I have to tell you that at the filming of this collection some items were damaged destroyedWhen pulling out my pink Pyrex bowls from a lower cabinet, and not wanting to get down on my still recovering knee, I accidently made other dishes fall out.

I broke an old bowl with a cute veggie scene on it, two plates to match and two poppy bowls.  The poppy bowls are not old, but so cute with my poppy dishes.

I wanted to spat my butt and put me in time out. lol!

Darn, collateral damage is the pits!  They were not savable and had to be trashed.

Hope you are more careful than this bull in a china cupboard!

Hugs,

Jann

Hi Jann,
Love the new collection (addiction)...! If you ever find out the answer to that question maybe you wouldn't mind sharing it with me...although I do believe that you are always in good company. Always with me that is for sure!! I love the all of the colours of your collection too! Fire King has been a staple in all of the Kitchens I have had. My #1 Fire King is my 5 cup measuring cup couldn't bake without that one!!
All the Best,
Christine

Hi Jann, lovely collection. I have no pink whatsoever in my home and yet I love pink Pyrex bowls! If I saw one at a reasonable price I would grab it. Oh wait, I do have pink dishes, almost forget about them. I broke a sugar bowl yesterday that fell out of my cabinet while putting away two cups. It is a vintage Noritake pattern and I was so upset. Oh well, have to start checking Ebay again. xo

WOW, Jann! You have a very beautiful bowl collection going on there!! All the colors and designs are just wonderful. Sorry to hear about the "breaking" accident. It must have been very disappointing. Hope your knees recover soon. And I do love the name Tula. It's great that you have a couple of her fabulous plates.

Well, I was catching up on your blog since I haven't visited in a while. I enjoy your photos very much and your little grandson looks so adorable. Those that you feature are very interesting and I love all the information, and again, PHOTOS!

I had a wonderful visit.

Love your Pyrex...and I'm so sorry about your broken dishes. I had a similar experience with several pieces of my Ben Seibel and Russel Wright collection recently, and I wanted to kick myself too!

Oh poor you....I understand about these addictions...I mean collections...the only way is to keep buying them so that you get fed up...or so I've been told...by another addicted/collector! Anyway. I'm so sorry that you broke some. I do think that you really must fill those empty spaces...and soon! Joan

Nice collection. Sorry about your accident. :(
I have the small casserole with the glass lid in the 2nd picture and a while oblong bowl with a different pattern. They were gifts in the mid 60's.

What a lovely collection you've got going, Jann! I grew up seeing many of them in my relatives homes--and my Mom had a few of the aqua. Does that mean I'm vintage, too? lol

I'm sorry that you broke some dishes...but at least they weren't PYREX pieces! haha Just kidding! Your COLLECTION is darling. Many people would "kill" for those pink striped bowls!

They are just darling, that group of aqua bowls sitting there talkin' to each other! What a neat collection, and still maintaining its bright vibrant color!

What a lovely collection and the turquoise is my favourite too. I have two vintage pyrex covered casseroles, on olive green and one orange, so not my colours (I prefer the pastels you have shown) but lovely all the same.

I love my Pyrex bowls..we use them every single day...I don't really collect them but I do keep extras set aside in case of 'accidents' with the ones we use. I love the turquoise also.

I so love Pyrex. I would love to collect the pink and the aqua, but they are so expensive everywhere that I have looked. So I just keep looking and hoping to run into a piece here and there at a reasonable price.

You are NOT addicted, no, no, no! You are curating your collections! That is what I tell myself anyway. Really hate when I break any of my pieces, too. Major miracle that I don't break more considering that I have 'collections' stashed in numerous hidey-holes! LOVE your stuff♥

I went to an antique show this weekend you would have loved as there were a number of pieces to add to your collections. I indulged my glass fetish.

Collection, addiction, whatever, just have fun with it. Vintage Pyrex (and other brands) have been on my radar lately as well. I have seen some pieces, but not what I'm looking for. I would love to one day be able to redo the kitchen with that aqua color. Thanks for sharing!

I love your pyrex bowl collection. I love the blue ones best! Since you asked... it's a collection as long as you have space for them in your home. It's an addiction when you don't.

Forty-seven years ago I got a 4-piece set like the top one in a brown and white combination. The smallest one still survived and we still use it. Would love to find the complete set now. I ADORE all of your new collection.

Hi! I know you've got a lot of comments here...but I wanted to thank you for this post! I was amazed how much I enjoyed the bowls, and I became a believer instantly. I have in the course of a week- painted my laundry room turquoise & white (1950's look), started building a wall of shelves AND have already collected the 4pc princess mixing bowl set and a matching Butterprint casserole, the Snowflake double server w/ lid and one more matching casserole!
My husband is amused...so far. There's still much turquoise pyrex to collect! Thanks again for the new obsession . Take care. Victoria Lavender
