Gotta Get Me a Pendleton!

Hello my friends,
Years ago the name "Pendleton" was very popular with my parents generation.
I doubt there were many men who didn't own at least one Pendleton shirt.

One thing for sure is that if you got a gift that was marked Pendleton, you knew that it was good quality and that the person who bought it had shelled out big bucks.

I hadn't thought about Pendleton in years until while on a road trip to Oregon we drove through the town.

I have been wanting a plaid throw in Fall colors so I was so excited and thought surely I could get one there.

Nope, turns out that if you want a Pendleton you either have to visit the outlet near Portland or go to the factory in WA.

We decided to do both.

I didn't take pictures at the outlet and when we arrived at the factory we found that the tour was closed for the week.
Still,
we were not disappointed.  Lots of eye candy to see in the Pendleton Mill Store!
(all photos were taken with my phone)

There was plenty of clothing, but what caught my eye were the blankets and the antiques.

Gorgeous throws,

backpacks, and scarves.

Even a little something for the babes.

Antiques thrown in the displays for extra fun!

I fell head over heels in love with this supply cart, which they actually still used.
Wouldn't it be sweet filled with blankets?

I was surprised to see that you could even buy yardage.

It was fun to see one of their original shirt patterns on display.

This is where the factory workers (not sure if it's still used) punch their time cards.

Now it's time for me to clock out.  :)

But as you can see, we did not leave empty handed. Hubby is posing with his new buffalo check shirt (it's in the bag) and yup, I got that Fall throw.

I'll be showing how I used it in a post later this week.

I hope you enjoyed the tour!

hugs,
Jann

I had a vintage Pendleton jacket when I was younger, but I have no idea where it is now. I love the pretty throws, and their store displays are so fun! I'd love a few throws to display over my ladder.

ooooh, how gorgeous. I could almost feel those beautiful throws. I had never heard of Pendleton before so can assume there aren't sold in the UK.

Being a native Oregonian, I have several Pendleton blankets, not even sure how many. LOL! I love them. It is too bad you missed the tour as it is really neat to see. I loved seeing the displays again. I am always in awe of how they decorate. Loved looking at the photos and now I am wanting to make another visit soon!

Hugs,
Dianne

I like the riot of colour and pattern in the store Jann. What an interesting place to shop and I am looking forward to seeing what blanket you purchased. I'm sure you will enjoy it for years to come. Have a wonderful day!

At my baby shower someone gave me beautiful wool blanket in a deep royal blue. I really liked it, but I am allergic to wool, so I wanted to give it away. My mother was horrified, she didn't care that it would sit in the closet or make me itch...it was a Pendleton and I was keeping it! I still have it. The baby is 17. ;)

How fun is this! Can you believe we had an outlet store here for a few years and I never bought anything? I was always unprepared to pay what they asked for things. I bet you enjoyed this a lot. I didn't know about where Pendleton was actually made. Maybe I'll get a chance to check it out next time I'm in Oregon visiting our son. Washington is just a hop over from where he lives.

Pendleton makes the most beautiful blankets! I've lived in Oregon for many years, but have yet to visit their outlet. Glad you made the trip and thanks for sharing with us!

Great rustic post, and a wonderful idea to support an American company. I often shopped thrift stores, specifically for Pendelton items to use in displays. I'm sure a shirt or two may surface in my stashes. The quality---can't be beat, and heritage plaids were Pendelton's specialty. I remember I had two blazers in college, and wore them to death. Thanks for the visiting and posting a place I would love to go!

Oh, for the love of Pendleton! I still remember my dad wearing his pendeltons and loving everyone of them. I guess I owe it to him for the love I have with plaid. I've actually been to both the outlet and the factory, since my son lives near Portland, aren't they just wonderful to the eye? I even look forward to the Pendlton shop at the Portland airport. Now I'm just looking forward to seeing how you will out that new throw to use. I have no doubt its found a very lovely spot in your home.

Hubby and I have a few Pendleton blankets and shirts from his parents' estate. They're old but still useful.
Growing up I remember the classic wool striped (colorful yellow, red, green) blanket that was brought out during the winter time...scratchy though...

I'm so glad you found something you liked! It's quite funny, I live just 25 miles from Pendleton and have never been in that store. My sister worked for Pendleton Woolen Mills in Portland most of her life and she has been to this store a couple of times, lol. It is sad though that they source a lot of their stuff to Mexico now or at least they did before my sister quit!
Can't wait to see what you do with your quilt!!

I loved the tour, Jann. Ot's so neat to see the old machinery they had used to make their wonderful products.
Years ago I was able to easily find Pendleton wool shirts at the resale shops. Not anymore, so I'm glad I bought them then!
