Cherries and Chocolate. . .A Match Made in Heaven

Hello my friends,
as some of you may know; I am not a huge chocolate lover.

Oh yes, I enjoy a bit of chocolate now and then, but when it comes to cake, ice cream, and even chocolate.  I prefer white over brown.  :)

BUT cherries and chocolate together. . .now that's another story!

My friend, Joanne bought the cutest assortment of vintage cherry chocolate boxes off of e-bay last year.  I think she has 6 of them.  Each one was so stinking cute!  Needless to say, I was full of envy. (wink)  I couldn't help myself from looking to see what was available this year.  This sweet thing caught my eye.  I bid the minimum amount and was quite surprised when I won it.  Especially since there were 3 others watching.

Isn't it the sweetest?  Something about biting into a cherry chocolate.  It's a little explosion of happiness in your mouth!

I must say, it looks rather fabulous on my Pioneer Woman
 jadite cake stand.

If you've ever stepped into my basement kitchen you know I have a weakness for anything cherry themed.

Last week I ran into Hobby Lobby for some floss.  That's when I spied this cherry garland.

So then, Viola!  A cherry themed Valentine mantle was born.

For you chocolate lovers, a piece of chocolate cake with a cherry on top!

A sweet blog and Instagram friend made and sent me the darling heart last year.  Are you familiar with Laurie from Magpie Ethyl?  She creates the cutest things!  This little cherry girl is one.  I ordered her a few years ago.

She gives so much attention to the details.  Love her sweet face and the little cherries on her button.

I wonder if this box of chocolates had a cherry or two inside?

And what on earth does this mushroom have to do with a cherry themed mantle?  Absolutely nothing!  The cherry garland wasn't long enough to reach the end of my mantle, so I needed something cute to anchor it to.  The other side is tucked under my cake stand.

Along with the cherry garland I hung a small red and white pom pom garland and a bead garland.  I found a bag of red beads at our local thrift for $.75 cents.  Quick and easy to string them on jute.

Of course we need a few Valentines on a Valentine mantle!

I stacked a couple of my cake carriers on the hearth.  The top one I won on a give away a few years ago from Cindy at
Old Time Farmhouse  She always has cute things to sell in
her shop.  The other carrier I bought at a vintage flea market.

One year I made Valentines to hang on some of my vintage treasures.

I have this fun printers cabinet on my hearth as well.  It has fabulous green chippy paint on the sides.  I love it, but it's hard finding things to put inside it.  I added some old doorknobs and a few Valentines.

This ruby red lipped gal is a head vase.  The estate I helped with had tons of head vases.  This is the only one I bought.

So there you have it, my cherries and chocolate Valentines mantle.

Now I need to go eat a cherry chocolate!  Really wish I had one right now.  "KABOOM"  That's that happy explosion
 I was talking about.

hugs,

Hi Jann, I really like your vintage cake savers . . . and that cake. Oh, if I lived closer I would be knocking on your door, fork in hand. LOL.

I can relate as I'm not a huge fan of chocolate either. Love how cherries are the theme of your Valentine decorations- a fresh alternative from hearts.

I had to stop in and comment when I saw that you were talking about chocolate covered cherries. They were always my grandfather's favorite and then became mine. So many good memories. I haven't had any in a long time as I really don't eat store bought 'candy' anymore. Totally surprised to see my name in your post. Would you believe that I totally forgot about that cake stand. LOL! Glad you are still enjoying it.
Hugs,
Cindy

Loving that garland! And your bicycle wheel. Boy, do those candy boxes bring back memories. I don't really like chocolate all that much except in certain things but I do remember liking those cherries! Cherries are perfect for Valentine's day -- love every single image!

So cute and fabulous! Your mantels are always so special and you always have just the right things for them. Where do you store it all?! My husband loves chocolate covered cherries and I give him a box of them every Christmas. I always steal one. Just one.

CHOCOLATE COVERED CHERRIES ARE MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE CANDY! I love eating cherries, too. Absolutely best tasting ones are Rainier cherries from Washington and they are so very dreamy! No want to run out and buy a box of chocolate covered cherries!!! I created a new drink...cherry lemonade!!!!! Scrumptious!

STOP!!!! Oh. My. Gosh. This is the cutest bunch of stuff ever!! I am heading over to eBay to look for some of those boxes - probably none on there now but gotta try! I am pinning so many of your pictures - that bike wheel is FANTASTIC and love the garland. Hobby Lobby is a dangerous place. Such a great collection you have created!

So so cute! That vase head lady! I am allergic to so many foods now, and I don't eat sugar anymore due to health issues, but this post has me craving chocolate covered cherries! I used to put a whole box away by myself (I was always sorry afterward, but enjoyed it while it lasted!)
