I Love My New Hooters!

Well friends, it's that time of year when 'hooters' come to my mind.  I have some new ones that I'd like to show you.

But before I show you my new ones. . .let's take a look at my old ones.

Ha, ha, had you going there for a while didn't I?  As much as this old gal could use a lift, that's not the kind of 'hooters' that I am talking about.

I snagged these vintage cuties at a yard sale a few years ago.

Just look at those big beautiful eyes.

I gave this set to my youngest daughter, Kylee but she graciously let me use them.

Recently I gave my sewing room a makeover.  It's amazing what you can discover when you do a little organizing. lol!

I ran across this kit for a whimsical owl pillow.  It's a combination of both fabric and wool appliqué.  I picked it up for half price last year and didn't get around to making it.

I went to a sale at Kneaders yesterday with my cousin.  Did you know that they have a annual sale clearing out all of their leftover decor items?

I picked up a few more hooters.  This little guy was only $1.  He sits in an old bread bowl amongst dried Hydrangea blooms.  Can you believe they were red?  Love the color and they are perfect for Fall!

This little fella was only 50 cents.  I added him to a book bundle along with a trio of old keys and a library card.

They sit on an old wooden box on my coffee table next to a couple of rusty finials I recently purchased from Burlap Luxe blog.

I have to tell you a little about this rustic box.

It's really weathered and worn, but I couldn't bear to paint it and cover up some of the fabulous graphics.   Loved this number 61.  Which just happens to be the age of this old gal.

The label says that it is a Mimeograph by Mr. Thomas A. Edison.  My sil googled and found that it was the first copy machine.  The box was empty when I found it at an estate sale.  

It's rustic but refined!

This last hooter was another 50 cent score at the Kneaders sale.  I also picked up the mercury glass acorns, $1 for the group of three.

I had some chick-o-sticks so I tossed them in a jar and tied this little fella and the acorns to the top with a red ribbon.  A pretty flower compliments the bling of the mercury glass.

Well now that you've seen my 'hooters', I'd love to see yours!!!

The Beehive State

Before we know it Fall will be upon us.  The weather here lately has been much cooler than usual and we’ve had lots of rain.

The feeling of Fall is definitely in the air.

As much as I’d like summer to hang around for just a tad longer. . . I’m afraid it’s not going to happen.

I think we are seeing the last hurrah of summer.

I have a large Black Eyed Susan plant at the end of the sidewalk leading up to our front door.  It is covered with bees.  My son, Dalan teased and said it was a death trap and  that it would keep me from getting visitors.  I laughed and replied, “Maybe it will keep the solicitors away”
.


The blooms are not large, it’s an old fashioned flower.



Well, you know how one thing leads to another. . .the thought of bees prompted me to share the last of my kitchen summer décor.  I have somewhat of a b&w and yellow theme going on. 







Vintage yellow dishes take center stage in my wicker baby scales.  Notice that I had to display my recent jadite find.  A little green is always nice, right?











I picked up these sunflower plates this week at a thrift store.



These little bowls are a set in various sizes.  After searching google I found that they are storage containers and should have plastic lids.  I found them at a thrift store quite a while ago and there were no lids.  They look right at home tucked inside my sunflower cloche.



There’s a few touches of gold and brown.



I love this rustic scale!  I had never seen one like this when I ran across it in St. George, UT.



A little bit of cotton to keep you cool on a hot summer day.



There’s lots of colors going on here in my hexie runner, but do you see the honeycomb shape?

Did you know that Utah is called the “Beehive State”?



Utahans relate the beehive symbol to industry and the pioneer virtues of thrift and perseverance. The beehive was chosen as the emblem for the provisional State of Deseret in 1848 and was maintained on the seal of the State of Utah when Utah became a state in 1896.

My great grandparents George and Jenny Freestone introduced the first two beehives to the Vernal area.


I’ve tucked a few treasures into a thrifted tote that I gave a coat of A.S. chalk paint.  All of the goodies were found at thrift stores also except for the recipe cards and honey.



I recently added some height under my bee skep.  A $4 score of a b&w (the top is black) Cosco stool at our local thrift.  It was filthy, but a soak in a sink full of bleach took care of that.



I’d like to leave you with a few Bee’s to live by.

I think it's wise advice for anyone.

And of course, always Bee happy!

Tuesday’s Tour. . .My (2nd) Favorite Home Show

The last couple of months I have attended both a wonderful Home Show and a couple of gorgeous garden tours.

I thought that it would be fun to start a weekly post called ‘Tuesday’s Tour’.  Today I am sharing my(2nd) favorite home in our local Home Show.  At first I published it as my favorite home and then I remembered there was one I liked even better. lol!  

What I loved about this home was that it was so light, bright, and cheery!

The outside itself was very inviting. . .now let’s step inside.

They directed us upstairs first.  A fun variety of pictures, frames, and mirrors created this gallery wall.

The sayings on the stairs was a little too much for my taste. . .but, still a fun idea!

The home was filled with family heirloom pieces that had been painted.

Gorgeous handmade rug.

I loved the colors and the seating area in this bedroom.  Even the light floors seem so refreshing.

Patterns that I would have never dreamed of putting together, but somehow they worked.

Window box seat love!!

The boys room just made me smile.  Lots more photos, but I’ll share them when we tour ‘boys rooms’.

More great furniture out on the landing.

The kitchen was my favorite room in the house.

This little cutout was at the end of the large island.

Oh my, so much to love in this kitchen. . .the buffet, the brick wall, the plates, and the church pew.  (Just to name a few).  Yes, there’s lots more!

Not a very good photo, but I loved this idea of framing old family recipes.  They framed three.

Look at the beautiful herringbone design on the floor.

Cozy family room off of that gorgeous kitchen.

I thought the furniture was cute, but the wall was a little more than I like.  I think it was the craft room.

Look at this unusual faucet.

This light and seating area were in the mudroom where you exited into the garage.

Don’t know if I just missed getting photos of the master bedroom and laundry room or what?  But the basement was just as fabulous as the upstairs.  Saving it for another post.  This baby is already long.
