Garden Angels. . .

Do you believe in angels?

Heavenly beings looking down and keeping watch over you?

IMG_1879

Beings with angelic faces?

IMG_1880

I do!

I also believe that there are ‘garden angels’.  Those who have passed on and have a love for gardening.  What would bring them more joy than watching over someone’s garden?

One of those would be my sweet mother.  She had a gorgeous garden and won many awards.  Oh how she loved being outdoors!  When she was too old to work the soil she would pull up a chair and sit and watch as I planted for her.

I can hear her saying, “Come on little pumpkin, grow!”

To this tiny one she would say, “If you don’t hurry, soon it will be too late and the snow will fly”

IMG_1887

Another would be my MIL.  Although she didn’t enjoy working the soil, she loved her garden roses!

Both her and my mother had gorgeous roses in their front flower beds.  Peach was their favorite color of rose.

I wonder if they coax the sun to shine and ripen my tomatoes?

Seeing pretty pink Zinnias all in a row would bring a smile to their face.

Even a simple pumpkin blossom would bring them joy.

Especially one peeking out from behind a miniature rose.

They both might think that this fence needed a coat of paint.  But then they would stop and say, “Oh no, this is Jann’s fence.  She’d love it just the way it is”

IMG_1907

My mom would love that I found this cute concrete basket at a thrift store for $6.

IMG_1906

I wonder what they would think about this crazy gardener who decided to plant pumpkins and garlic chives amongst the roses?  Would they approve or say, “what were you thinking?”

Either way, I know that my garden would make them happy.  How do I know this?  Because it makes me happy and I just ‘know’ that I too will be a ‘garden angel’ someday!

Thank you my ‘garden angels’, for helping my garden to grow!

What a sweet post.

My sweet mom was an amazing gardener- I am learning slowly but surely, not a true natural like she.

Love this post.

Mom's been gone 20 years ago a few weeks ago, she is always in my heart everytime something grows well in my world, always makes me feel her memory.

This is a really nice post!! Your garden looks lovely, with help from your angels. I don't think even angels can help me, I try but our soil is very sandy here...

I love your garden! We were in Salt Lake City this past summer and I was so impressed with the flowers. I still haven't mastered gardening in Colorado. I need to start earlier next year and also try to figure out a way to keep the bunnies from eating the seedlings! I'd love to grow pumpkins.

Jann, I enjoyed this post. Yes, I do think there are garden angels just as there are angels who watch over us.

Thank you for this post! It made me a little misty eyed. My mom spent so much time in her garden. When she developed health problems that kept her out of the garden, she created the most lovely hanging baskets. Finally, when she was no longer able to do that, she grew African Violets of all varieties.

Lately, I have been thinking about Mom when I've been out in the garden. She used to love the old hymn, I think was titled "The Garden". It's the hymn that talks about I come to the garden alone, when the dew is still on the roses. I am sure she is loving being a garden angel now. I wonder if she is directing all of the hummingbirds to my zinnias.

Your flowers are beautiful. I am sure your garden angels are watching over things.

My tomatoes failed here in Florida, so I'm having tomato envy! A well tended garden is a thing of beauty. What a joy to see.

I believe in all sorts of angels. My lovely niece, only 36 years old, became an Angel Friday morning. I ache for her 5 year old daughter who does not know yet as the family is trying to figure out how to tell her. Not an easy thing. Now Jessica is an Angel to watch over all of us, especially Emma Rose, her daughter.

Yes, I DO believe in angels! My life and my son's life were saved by an angel...I will never forget it or think otherwise. I saw it and I heard it and it's why we are still here. I think my sweet little boy will be a priest one day, or at the very least, he is destined to do something very important, and I really do think he is being protected. Jann, your garden flowers are so pretty! Such soft colors, so romantic. A garden is such a summer delight.
