State Your Case. . .

Although  I’m sure that I really don’t even need to ask, but just for the fun of it I am.

“Do you love old suitcases?

Come on, state your case and tell me why.

I myself adore them and wish I had more, more, more!  Yes, I can be a bit greedy at times. lol!  Think of the places they have seen.

Why do I want more?  Just look at these two stacks from Country Living.

Now you’re wanting more too, right?

Here’s what I have so far. All have been bought at thrift stores or yard sales. This stack of three beige beauties sits atop an old incubator in our farmhouse basement.  They use to be in our bonus room and the grandies loved playing dress up with them.  Often after they left I found them full of outfits from the closet.

Don’t you love my little $4 garage find quilt.  Not only did I get it, but a bag full of other doilies and such for that $4 price.

IMG_1774

This stack of two is in my sewing room.  The top one is actually the case for my old brown sewing machine.

IMG_1775

The top was in such bad shape that I Mod Podged bird paper to it.  The bottom case holds sewing projects.

IMG_1776

This one was made into a small fairy garden.  Regretting that choice.  Watering it has caused the leather to peel off the bottom.  Now down to the bare wood.  Live and learn, right?

And here’s one waiting for a make over.  Hubby actually sat it outside when cleaning the garage.  Guess who will be bringing it back in tomorrow?

Rustic charm!

IMG_1779

I have these 4 large (hard to tell, but they are very big) casters that came with the cabinet we recently bought for my craft room.  We didn’t put them on because it was going to make it too tall.  Wondering if I could put them on the trunk and have it be a rolling table.  And then the question is, should I leave as is; or paint it?  State Your Case!

You might remember these two that I featured at SYC a while back.

I just love the table idea!

Before going I have to show you the e-mail pictures I got from my youngest daughter, Kylee a couple days ago.  She’s the one traveling Europe with her hubby.

Is this case not fabulous?  Oh, the places it has been!

This is what the e-mail said:

“Mom, I am too much like you.  Look what I bought in Hungary today.  It’s amazing and it was only $15.  Don’t know how I am going to get it home:)???”

Couldn’t think of a better compliment!

hugs,

Jann

Hi Jann! Yes, of course I love suitcases! Such a sweet note about your grandies playing dress up. I wouldn't regret the fairy garden choice, I think it was worth the wear for something so cute. And your daughter is adorable! Well, now you've inspired me to share pics of my suitcases, I think I'll do that next week. Oh, one more thing, I just realized that Share Your Cup and State Your Case are both SYC. Ok, that's all :). ~Ann at Tarnished Royalty

Yep, I love suitcases too. I have a tall stack of them in my studio holding sewing supplies. My favorites are three matching ones that were my grandmas!

Now, of course, you know you have MOI wanting some old cases.
I do have my daddy's olden suitcase...it is in terrible shape and I've wondered what to do with it...you have just given me more blogging fodder. :))

HA! I just bought one the other day - it must be contagious!!! I'd try to add the casters to the trunk - that would be sooo cool!!

Enjoy all your beauty!

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Actually, my daughter doesn't like my "cottagey" style of decorating at all.

I love suitcases, but don't own a single one.

Should I say it? You know-the one about the nut doesn't fall too far from the tree! You did a good job, Mom. We just took about 15 suitcases to a thrift shop from the house I am helping stage. I don't know how many more we are going to find- I am afraid to ask- xo Diana

Love them all~!
Actually and strangely... I was thinking of putting curtains up over a strange cubby spot over my closet and late at night, a couple nights ago I was inspired to find some old suit cases to line across the top. I do believe the idea was placed in my tiny mind by your pinterest page? If not yours, somebody's. Pinterest can be such a 'valuable' waste of my time...lol
Whatever you do with them all will be wonderful ~ lucky you to have some. I have to start watching for my own collection~!
Have a great weekend - thanks for inspiring me once again.

I loved seeing your daughter's picture, Jann! That suitcase is darling (and so is your daughter!).

I especially like that first stack of 3 you showed us of your collection, with the bluish striped one in the middle. And of course I'm just a tad partial to the idea of turning your trunk into a table : )
Have fun, whatever you decide, and thanks for showing us your great collection!

Old suitcases have a story and that is so appealing isn't it! Love your stacks and now i'll be on the lookout for some more. I have one old one to start a storage area. Your daughter is a cutie and I love the case she found!

I would love to get an old suitcase that I was able to paint and put a French graphic on the top and make a small table out of it. That would be so fun.

I am always pinning photos of those stacks of trunks! I have several old suitcases but am just trying to find the perfect combination before I make a table. I think you should put the casters on that beautiful trunk then leave it alone for a couple of days. I think it will speak to you as to whether or not you should paint it. I can wait to see what you decide!

I have a few old suitcases but, I have to say, I haven't made a feature of it! I'll have to think about that!! I love the fairy garden but can imagine that, unless you lined it with something very strong, it would finish off the suitcases. As for your daughter's buy (and yes it does seem as if she has 'caught' her mother's nose for finding interesting things) Ijust imagine where it has been and for what occasions! There's a flight of fancy!! Joan

Suitcases are fab. I looked for a couple for a nightstand project but I could have just bought a night stand for what ppl wanted for a couple musty old clunkers. (Condition wasn't terribly important they would have been painted white)Yours look excellent. Love that your daughter bought one. Don't you just love those Apple/ tree moments?
