Gold Mine of a Find!

Well my friends, often when we find a treasure we’ve had to dig a little for it.  That’s what us ‘pickers’ like to do.

Not so with my recent find that I am sharing with you today.

One might think that I've been traipsing through an old mine.  Nope, I spied it at a furniture store, R. C. Willey’s a while ago.  Must admit, I thought I’d struck gold when I laid eyes on this vintage mining cart.

So much so that I had to bring it home with me.

With the cooler temps I was able to gather a load of pumpkins.  I made a few changes on the porch.  It's the perfect addition!

Instead of loading my mining cart with golden nuggets or precious ores I’ve loaded it up with pumpkins and gourds.

Must admit that it was no easy task.  See, if you put too much weight on it the top lowers.  I’m sure it was a safety thing for the man riding in it.
It literally took me about ten attempts before I got the weight just right and it didn’t drop down. lol!  I’m sure if the neighbors saw me loading and unloading those pumpkins umpteen times they thought I was crazy!  Nothing new around here,  Hee-hee!

Don’t you just love the unusual pumpkins you can find now days?  The one literally looks like it’s  terrracotta.

A touch of Tobacco Plant and Pyracantha added for some extra color.

Notice the brake?  That would come in handy when taking it for a ride!  The other side has a really cool numbered label.  Didn’t dare turn it around for a photol  The pumpkins probably would have dropped down. (Remember my 10 attempts?)  I chose to use this side for now because it was a better rust color for fall.  The other side is more red.

Anyway, I love it and can see so many fun uses for it.  I’m thinking the red side will be perfect for Christmas!

Oh, and in case your wondering; the wheels were cleaned in March 4, 1994.

Wondering if they are due to be cleaned again.  Ha, ha!

DSC03460

When I bought this they had the coolest green metal open elevator that came out of the same mine.  Oh how I would have loved it!  Really, just didn’t have anywhere I could use it.  Wouldn’t it be fun in a boys room?

DSC03468

I love my new cart and who knows, someday I may take it for a spin.  Did I mention that my driveway is on a slight slope?  Favorite spot for the neighbor kids to ride their bikes.  Wonder what they’d think if this old gal rode down it in a mining cart?

Not a pretty picture!

hugs,

Jann

Do it Jan.. take it for a spin!!!! Sometimes when i leave the super market with a cart full of bags.. I can be seen standing on the crossbar in the front and riding down the parking lot. People must think I'm crazy.. and maybe I am just a little ~ who says grown ups can't have fun!! : )

I did not know that RC Willey had OLD stuff! I haven't been in one of their stores for years & years - might have to check it out now. Wonderful new treasure you have there - I love all the goodies you have displayed in it.

Yes....I've never heard about or seen anything like this at our RC Willey's in Idaho....might need to go there more often to check it out! Your little cart is great and I love the pyracantha (sp?) branches....reminds me of my childhood home in AZ. Thanks for lovely photos!

Wonderful find! I feel your pain over the tippy thing. I found a huge cornucopia in a thrift store but it is murder to get it to stand properly when it is loaded.
