This morning as I glanced outside my family room window I saw someone looking back at me.
Now I don’t live on a farm, just a small town called, Alpine, UT. However, growing up in a nearby town we thought that Alpine was nothing but farmers. My how times have changed. Some of the largest and most beautiful homes now reside in Alpine. It has been said that Oprah owns a home here. But somehow it still has managed to maintain it’s rural charm.
Our house is built on what use to be the old McDaniel farm. Good fertile soil.
This cow was not quite as sociable. He just gave me his back side.
This one just tried to remain hidden.
The cows only come out to play every now and then. An older gentleman owns the property West and directly behind our side fence. It is no longer a working farm, but he rents the space out once in a while.
A lot of people may not be happy with this. But me, I love the cows!
There’s an old milk house and barn. This is a view of the top of the barn.
Give me a barn, a few cows, and some flowers and that’s the country life for me!
Look who decided to finally show his face.
I was babysitting my grandson, Jack. I had to snap this pic. Perfect for mello yellow Monday.
Love this view of the barn and the mountains!
Here’s lookin at you kid!
Which do you prefer, country or city?
Hugs,
Jann

I live in both, Jann- I live in a suburb of our state's capital.....yet north and east of me are stilll gorgeous working farms.
Now I don't have COWS outside my door (so cute btw) but I have a trillion deer because I have woods on two sides of me.
But outside of town here are cows, sheep, alpackas (sp) and all sorts of farm life. It's kinds rolling hilly and very wooded and beautiful beautiful farm areas.....but the suburbs are growing closer to them daily, so hopefully they don't all fade away one day soon.
I too like it both!
Love your cow photos and your beautiful backyard pics!
We have plenty of cows here in Texas too. I live in a large metropolitan area, and there is still pastureland within the city limits.
Isn't babysitting the grandkids great? I had mine yesterday and the day before, and I miss them today!
Hi Jann, nice to meet you. I am your newest follower, and I invited my sis, renae@simplesequins.com. I grew up rural to city, too. I know what you mean...like the cows next door to the lovely flower beds, citified home. Hahhahahaaa. You can see one of my recent posts, similar. It is funny, I found you via Pembrokeshire Lass, in Wales, and I am you neighbor in Salt Lake Co. Cracks me up. Mary
That is so cute - a cow no less! I enjoyed my visit to your blog!
Those cows are almost as cute as your grandson. You definitely took some great pictures. Hmmm, we used to live on 5 acres and had horses on both sides of us. Now we live on half an acre, but we're in the woods and pretty isolated. Lots of deer, but no cows!
I love the country - I could just hear you singing the theme from "Green Acres"...love your lovely rural view!
My vote says there is nothing like the country..more of God's creation to inspire us..and it certainly does speak to me of the Creator..glad you have a sense of humor and are not "put off" by the visitors..luv it

What a beautiful area you live in. It is just gorgeous. We kind of have the best of both worlds. We live just on the outskirts of town as it flows into the country. That gives us the city convenience of water and sewer and natural gas...and the serenity that comes from country living. xo Diana
Wow! As long as they stay on their side of the fence, it is great, I think. :) Beautiful photos, love your flower beds, they are gorgeous! xo
I was at the library today and noticed a whole mystery series that takes place in Alpine....I'll have to take another look and see if is in Utah. I love what you see outside your window.
I love what you see on both sides of your fence! Your flower garden is beautiful. But fun to see the cows looking over the fence. And your grandson is adorable.
I have never been to UT but everytime I see pics, it's just stunning there! I'd love to see cows peeking over the fence!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures. :)
Erica
Jann, I glanced at the cow but I couldn't take my eyes off of your flowers and rock landscape by the fence! Love it!
Hi Jann! Oh, how cute to see Bessie peeping over at you! What a lovely place you live in. Love your flowers and the view of the barn and the mountains! It would work for me.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)
My goodness, your garden looks beautiful! I have to admit, I did get a laugh out of seeing that cow peeking over the top of the fence! lol
What a cutie pie Jack is! I am country girl, all the way.
XO Kris
This is just the cutest!!! I love me some cows! :)
Hugs,
All of the pictures are great, but my favorite is the picture with your precious little grandson!!! That was an extra great picture!!!
Living in Highland...a suburb of Alpine(lol!)...our neighborhood shares space with Dr. Bateman's horses and Robinson's sheep. I love having livestock nearby. I wish someone had a rooster...love to hear them crow! I used to live by some McDaniels when I was a kid. That huge new park (Cottonwood?) is just across the street from our old house. =D
Beautiful land!! I would love to see the cows without having the duty of taking care of them.

Jann, your garden is beautiful. I would not mind having the cows drop by for a visit!
Jack is so cute! I love that age. Country or city? I've lived and enjoyed both, but right now I'd have to say, "Thank God, I'm a country girl!"
Wow, I love those rocks and flowers in your backyard. And that he-cow you are referring to is not a cow, but a bull! We don't have cattle, but the neighbor's cattle have been on our property many, many times. We love the city and the country, and we have a city place and the ranch, but if I had to choose, I would choose a country life.
Hi Jann... definitely the country life for me!... love your beautiful little town... (yikes! you gave out your home address???)... love the cows and barns and of course our gorgeous mountains... thanks for stopping by to visit today, xoxo Julie Marie
I've lived in the country since I was 6 (I am 27 now), but I am not a true "Country Girl". City people think that I am, but the country people KNOW that I'm not! =) I am happier in the country! (I really like that last photo in this post!)
Most definitely country!! I can lean towards forests, too. I do not like listening to traffic, smelling the exhaust, hearing loud people, looking at buildings and not nature, and apartments!!
What a lovely country life, the flowers are so pretty.
I grew a city girl in Boston but hubby's job required a mooooove north to the country. At the time I thought I would never survive but now I can't imagine going back.
I live 10 minutes from downtown Louisville--great for entertainment, but like my 'burbs neighborhood with its parks and neighbors. As for your visitors, cows just crack me up--they're such nosey parkers. Your garden shows a lot of work and love, Jann.
Thanks for following my blog. I'll return the favor soon. Have a lot of updating to do at my site.
Wonderful photos. Have a fabulous week.

Country all the way for me, Jann. We live on the outskirts of Estes Park, CO at the base of Prospect Mountain. Right next to us is a corral with horses. Our neighbor's chickens range free (I'm surprised a bobcat hasn't shortened their life span), deer, elk, bunnies everywhere. It's a great way to live. I love it. Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos and life with us. Jack is a real cutie-pie. Blessings.
Forget the barn, look at your beautiful garden.
I find it annoying when people who move to farming communities later complain that people are farming. Lol. Ya think?
I look at cows like they are pets and just want to smooch them on their noses. I don't think they like that much.
Now that looks like one contented cow! :) How I loved this cute post, Jann! What an adorable animal...so curious to see who lives on the other side of the fence. All your pretty flowers looked mighty tasty, I bet! How I love the country!
Your grandson is precious!
Have a wonderful week, my sweet friend.
Blessings,
Carolynn xo
Which do I prefer, country or city?
Yes!
Great pics!! :)
Now following you, too :)
Amber
Your garden is so beautiful!
I like the cows too.
Beautiful gardens :)
Prefer country !
These are GREAT, and that garden is so pretty.
And it's the country life for me, hands down. I've lived in noisy neighborhoods my entire life and I'm so tired of it. My heart and soul belong in the country, that's for sure. I'll take nature and singing birds over concrete and loud noise any day.
Kristin
I have to say your flower garden is amazing. Simply beautiful.
And how neat to have some rural charm just over the fence to view at your pleasure.
beautiful views and pictures :-) your grandson is a cutie :-) We also live in a country side and it is peaceful :-) Dropping by from MYM
