Adding a Romantic Touch to the Farmhouse Basement

Hello my friends, soon I will be pulling out the Christmas décor.  But before I do, I wanted to share a few changes that I have made in our basement.

I wanted to add a bit of romance to the farmhouse style.

Quite a while ago I had picked up some toile curtains at a thrift shop.  There were two small swags and one very long valance.  I cut the valance in half and attached one swag to each.  I was able to make it work for my two windows.

I added lace purchased from Joanne's fabrics.  I smile because the thrifted curtains cost me $10 and the lace cost me $40.  And that was using a coupon.  Still, pretty inexpensive curtains.

I added a ladder filled with some of my vintage linens to one of the corners. The lamb was another thrift find.  I couldn't resist his sweet face.

Notice that the ladder is black now?  ha, ha, no you're not losing it.  I'm using the white one on my upstairs hearth for fall.

I scored this sweet pillow for less than $5 at a damaged goods store.

To bring out more of the blue I've filled the bottom shelf of my primitive cabinet with blue and white dishes.

A sweet hurricane lamp was added to the milk and cream table.

And how could I resist a chippy red chicken?  I have a plain one, but somebody had painted this one red and the paint was chipping off. I sprayed it with a clear varnish hoping to preserve it.

I have touches of fall in the family room area and I picked up these two tole trays just this week.

I'll be packing it all up and replacing it with Christmas décor.  I'm so excited to start the holiday madness!  :)

hugs,
Jann

Jann, I am so behind! I just took down the Halloween stuff on my porch today...and nearly froze! I've been working in the house and have quite a bit of it done. I'll have been gone nearly every weekend since Halloween, so I feel like I'm playing catch-up. I'm usually done by Thanksgiving...wish me luck. I can't wait to see your decor...especially your fun, fun porch!!

Everything looks great. Love the b&W dishes in the primitive. The lace may have been expensive but it turned the $10 valance in to an $80 valance. And it can be reclaimed one day. Win - win.

Love it all but you had me with the blue and white dishes! Love, love, love your curtains! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

You do have the knack, Jann, for finding fun things for little money. I had to laugh at the lace/swag story because I've done the same thing. Even so the finished product is a good deal. All in all, your touches are just right.

So cozy and inviting. Did not notice a bed so assume it does not double as a guest room. Darn! LOL

Your family room looks lovely and I really like the chair beside the cream table. Great idea for curtains putting on the lace.

Love your new valances! That lace is gorgeous...I see why it was expensive, but worth the look it gives. Your lamb is adorable. Is it a plastic blow mold? Maybe from a yard nativity set?

Hi Jann, I love the changes that you made and your sweet little lamb is darling. I like the valances sometimes you just have to spend a little bit more to get something that you like. They are perfect. Hugs, Jo

Thank goodness I'm not the only one who does things like add $40 trim to $10 valances, Jann :) They turned out great! I love the lamb, too.
