Before I jump head over heels into Christmas decorating I have to take time to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday.
As I ventured out onto the porch a couple of weeks ago to add a touch of Thanksgiving décor I couldn't help but think of one of my all time favorite actors, John Wayne.
Truly, (in my eyes), an American hero!
The pilgrim says, welcome and the shaft of wheat is wishing them bountiful blessings!
I've had the pilgrim for years, but every time I pull him out I just have to say, 'howdy'!
As family enter the door for our Thanksgiving feast this little guy will be saying, "howdy pilgrim".
I remembered that John Wayne used the word pilgrim often, but was amazed at how many quotes there were from him using it. Just google and you'll see what I mean. :)

And it certainly wouldn't be Thanksgiving without pumpkins.
All gathered together on a vintage ironing board.
May your table always be filled with an abundance!
And may we always remember to "Give Thanks"
I feel so very blessed for all that the good Lord has
provided me with!
To all of you who will be celebrating next week,
Have a blessed Thanksgiving, Pilgrims!
hugs,
Jann

Have a very blessed Thanksgiving! Looking forward to the new year! Your John Wayne pilgrim is a cutie!
One cannot help be thankful when one steps on your porch. Your pilgrim fellow is wonderful. I can see in my mind's eye John Wayne getting off his horse, tipping his hat and greeting you with a "howdy maaaaam" in that low and slow way of his. Happy Thanksgiving, Jann!
Your pilgrim is quite unique! I love things like that to add a little whimsy to the holiday! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Jann, I am loving your pilgrim. You have some nice things to welcome your guests. Blessings for a wonderful week. My daughter tried to fly out of Chicago and go to Utah this morning. She has been in the plane on the runway forever. My oldest daughter said she had just reported they were all being taken back to the terminal. OMG... I hope she can get out soon. I am sure with the snow in Chicago, there were cancellations and delays. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
your porch looks very inviting. And, your interpretation of John Wayne is adorable. I once kissed John Wayne in New Orleans on Bourbon Street at 3 a.m. in a very 'by chance' meeting. True story. I was only 19 and had to stand on tip toes to tap him on the shoulder, he was that tall. Memories!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your Jann!!! Love the John Wayne at the door. He was a fav of mine too!
XO Kris

Mr. Pilgrim is adorable! I remember the John Wayne westerns, my grandma watched them religiously, and I remember that iconic drawl! Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, thar', Pilgrim. I'd say you did a right fine job of getting the ol' ranch all toddied up for Thanksgiving. John would be proud of you! xo Diana
I've always admired John Wayne and remember the day I heard of his passing, though I was just a teen, I remember crying, I was so sad! Still love his movies!! Your decor is wonderful and I pray this week of Thanksgiving finds you, your family and home filled with Blessings, Cindy xoxo
Happy Thanksgiving Jann, your pilgrim is so charming and what a lovely and welcoming entrance to your home for the holiday. I love John Wayne, too.
Very cute Pilgrim. We just got 16" of snow...so fall and Thanksgiving decor is buried...will have to morph into Christmas after Thursday!...

Great post- I always admired John Wayne and still do. I do remember him using the "pilgrim" reference a lot. Looks like we're going to have a white Thanksgiving here. Wishing you great happiness on Thanksgiving Day!
Jann, what a welcoming porch! And I love the way you've used the ironing board.
I had an old wooden ironing board that I used in the sewing room of our former home. Boy am I mad that I got rid of it when we downsized!
Thanks for the smile! Love your pilgrim. My big pumpkins are fading fast and have been moved to the compost. With so much Christmas happening in my craft room,I am happy to enjoy Thanksgiving and Fall right up to the 1st Sunday of Advent.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Howdy Pilgrim, I love saying that to, John was such a part of my movies years whether it was the old west or world war 2. it seems so good to see some wonderful Thanksgiving decor. I have been up to my ears in Christmas! I'm just so old and slow that I have to start early to get anything done. lol Have a wonderful Thanksgiving week., hugs, Jo
When I was a kid I once told my mother that I "knew" John Wayne was my real father. She assured me she had never met John Wayne.
My in-laws used to live a few doors down from John Wayne in Newport Beach, California on the bay. When we would go over to their house and go out on their boat we would sometimes see John Wayne on his dock or on his boat the Spruce Goose. I never got to meet John Wayne but waved at him every time I saw him!
Love him. Have a great Thanksgiving Jann.
Your porch is so welcoming for your Thanksgiving guests. Hope you and your family have a wonderful day. Thank you so much for sharing at Vintage Charm.sb
John Wayne would have chuckled, Jann. What a fun tribute.

What a wonderful, welcoming porch, Jann! It's done in your own, special style, which I love.
