Early Summer Garden

Hello my friends,
I am always amazed at how the garden is continually changing.

One must be careful, if you blink an eye you might just miss something.  I did miss my French Lilac.  It was in bud before we left for vacation and spent when I got home.  :(

I snapped these photos of our garden before we left for vacation last week.  Upon returning home things look entirely different now.

Two of my Clematis were putting on a show.  Now they are spent and two new ones are taking center stage.  I'll share them at a
 later date.

Some of the blooms of this "Nelly Moser" are huge.

I love the intricate centers.

I picked the last of my pink peonies today to share on Instagram.

The purple Sweet Rockets are spent and will be cut back for a second bloom.  Never as pretty as the first, but still adds a bit of color to the garden.

Kissed with water from the morning watering.

My white Peony only had three buds and they were just starting to open when we left. . .yup, missed them.  :(

This bloom was trying hard to be noticed behind the
feathery fennel.

I have four colors of poppies in my garden.  Orange, red, white, and salmon.  I love each and every one.  Here orange and red ones are tucked behind purple salvia.

An orange poppy with yellow Mrs. Bradshaw and Mtn. Bluet, (Perennial Bachelor Button).

I have quite a bit of Jupiter's Beard along the rock wall.  It blooms for a long time.  Love the pink blooms!

We call this "Ada" flower.  It's really a Clustered Bellflower, but my mom's neighbor named Ada gave us the start.  It's really purple, but for some reason looks blue in this photo.

I planted a Mock Orange bush because I had one at my previous home and the smell was heavenly.  Weird, but this one doesn't smell.  So pretty, but a bit disappointing!

The spring trailers on the rock wall have all been cut back and new ones take over.

The snowball bush was filled with big beautiful blooms.

I have wanted to hang this old window from the pergola for a couple years.  Hubby finally did it.  I took this photo looking out my family room window.  I thought it was kind of fun.  Looking through the window at the garden through the window.  lol!  Wish I would have taken it when the Lilacs were all in bloom, next year!!

We had a wonderful vacation to Napa and Carmel, CA.  I saw so many gorgeous flowers.  It definitely gave me my flower fix, but it's always nice to come home to my own garden!

That's the joy of a perennial garden.  It's continually changing.

hugs,
Jann

Your photos are beautiful.
I love the patio, and the window.
I have that same purple clematis.
Mine was spent out about a month ago.

Jann, seeing the changes in your garden in a short time frame makes me realize that every day spent in the garden offers something new. You have so many pretty blooms...I am fascinated by the poppies! Peonies are such a favorite...every photo I see makes me smile. I was so interested to read about your mock orange. My hubby remembered how wonderful his mother's mock orange smelled when he was growing up, so he planted one a few years ago. It has no smell at all, he was so disappointed. I have wondered if there was a wild variety that was fragrant and the cultivated ones lacks any fragrance. Thanks for sharing at Gardens Galore!

Your garden is so colorful and pretty! I always love seeing what others have planted. I have been gardening for a long time but have never heard of a lot of what you have! I too have mostly perennials and I love the ever changing of the garden. I have three mock orange trees in my yard (here when I moved in 21 years ago) and they are the highlight of my Spring when they bloom. They are in full bloom right now and smell heavenly! That is weird that yours don't have a scent!

Gorgeous blooms, you must get so much pleasure from your beautiful garden :) It's a lot of work, but oh so worth it.
Have a great week.

Loved your garden and hearing about all the changes. I was interested to learn about the mock orange not smelling. That is something to investigate.
You have so many sun flowers which I love. My garden is mostly shade and I love it and couldn't keep up a larger garden but I wish I had one good sun spot for a few things. I am envious of your snowballs, poppies and peonies.
Enjoyed your post.

Oh how I love your gardens. Your climate must be just perfect for all those bloomers. We get so hot here that many things just don't thrive.

Jann,
Love seeing your garden and backyard. This is one of the best times of the year for flowers. I like that you identified the perennials. The Jupiter's Beard is not one that am familiar with. I will have to try it. It seems like your growing zone may be similar to mine, here in CT- 6a/6b. Your pictures of the garden gats (June 10 blog) and pictures of your garden shed are great inspiration. I love the style of your shed- right up my alley! I can sometimes pick up some tidbits that help me with my gardens. Thanks.

Your garden is just gorgeous, Jann! So much color everywhere! It seems like your perennials bloom a few weeks before mine do in the Midwest. I love the window pane hanging from your pergola! Such a nice addition to the garden!

I'm so inspired by your Clematis climbing on the old ladder. On Saturday, as we wandered through the 3 French Hens Market, I was admiring old ladders. I suddenly remembered that we have a very, very old wooden extension ladder in the garage that came with our house. Now I think we should cut it into segments and use them for climbing plants! Your garden ladder is my inspiration, Jann! Sending warm hugs! ♡

Really beautiful, Jann. That climatis, especially, is unbelievably beautiful! I know what you mean about leaving and returning to miss something. That's happened to me. The good thing is that it's a perennial and there's next year!

Jann, the colors are all so vibrant! Simply beautiful! It is sad that lilacs don't last long enough.

Loved the garden tour Jann. I worry about that happening to me with some of my veggies in the little garden. I keep looking at my tomatoes and they are growing an so pretty right now but I told my husband that they will probably be ready to pick while we are vacation in July! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

I am still trying to find a pretty clematis for my garden, yours are lovely. Gardens do change constantly, that for me is part of the appeal of digging in the dirt.

Yes, it is amazing how quickly a garden can change. You have such beautiful color with all your blooms. My day lilies have long bloomed out, then just this week I see a few late bloomers. One never knows!
Thanks for sharing!
