Have you ever noticed how people look at color differently? For example, a couple of weeks ago I asked one of my friends, Kathy if I could have a start of her pink Spiderwort perennial this Fall. She replied, “I don’t have pink, but I have purple”.
Me and another friend, Amanda (who had already gotten a start from Kathy) looked at each other and said, “We call that pink”.
So it is with my Larkspur. I’m still trying to decide if it is lavender or blue. Maybe it’s a little of both. When I asked my daughter, Kylee what color she would call it she said, It’s blue violet. It looks just like the crayon by that name.
I sprinkled Larkspur seeds on the hill behind my fire pit Fall of ‘2010’. It comes back each year and buries everything in it’s path. Hard to believe, but there are bushes and pines planted up there. Even a few trees that seem to get lost in the lair of Larkspur. I don’t want to plant a bunch of perennials up there because I hope to plant lots of hostas when the trees are larger.
Are you seeing what I am seeing? a bit of lavender and a bit of blue. Doesn’t it make you want to say, dilly dilly?
Now here are a couple flowers in my garden that I consider blue.
my Delphiniums and. . .
Monkshood.
But what color is this Pincushion flower? I say lavender.
And look at this cluster of Larkspur. Such a faint sort of blue.
Well, whether you say lavender or blue. I say ‘pretty’!

It doesn't matter what color they are because either way, they are wonderful. Is larkspur an invasive plant? I'm very wary of invasive plants, though I do love the look of this.
It's true, I often say blue when others say purple. Whatever the color, your flowers are very beautiful!

I always see blue when other people see green?? But, as Shakespeare said, a rose by any other color would smell as sweet...or something like that. Your yard must be the envy of the neighborhood. I love seeing you beautiful pics!

My friend and I go round and round about what's blue and what's purple! It doesn't matter though, because your flowers are just stunning. I've got a couple packets of larkspur seeds sitting in my fridge, and I'm tempted to sprinkle some this Fall and see what happens come Spring!

you are so right about different perceptions of colors....what my husband calls green is sometimes actually blue, and gray to him is green....or maybe I am incorrect! Lovely photos - who doesn't love flowers?!

Lavender or blue, these plants add a nice cool feeling to a summer garden. They are all lovely; I really like delphiniums but have not had much luck with them, for some reason.

I just planted some lavender this year...I so love it, the smell and the look of it in a yard! I am here from Katie's hop and must tell you as soon as I clicked and saw the name of your blog I HAD to follow you...you see my married name is Olson too!!! You are right - color is in the eye of the beholder! I noticed that distinction when my daughter and I look at things - they're different to each of us! Love your Larkspur - wish I could grow it here!
