Creating Vintage Style Christmas. . . in My Neck of the Woods

Hello my friends, I am so excited to be hosting the ‘Creative Christmas’ link party today!

What a fun week this has been!  There have been some fabulous posts by Lynn,   Alice, and Cecilia.  You can bet that we will be topping it off with a fantastic one tomorrow! So be sure and hop over and link up your ‘Simple and Sweet’ Christmas with Carol from Art and Sand .

Now this party is not just for décor.  Would love to see some food items as well.  If you have a recipe that once belonged to your granny, please share it!

All links will remain open until the19th so come join in the fun!

I realize that when we hear the words ‘Vintage Christmas’ that thoughts of Shiny Brites, Putz Houses, etc. come to mind.
But us gals that love to decorate have to mix it up a little from year to year.

So today I am taking you out into my neck of the woods. . .

I’m sharing some of my woodsy vintage finds.

Many of you know how much I love plaid. . .especially at Christmas.
I decided to decorate our bedroom as if we were in a cabin deep in the woods.

I pulled together my collection of vintage thermoses.

The German sleigh is loaded up and ready for a Winter Picnic.

Winter Picnic
The day that I did this I finished just as hubby arrived home from work.  I usually decorate our bedroom in snowmen so I was excited about the change.

I said, “Doesn’t it feel just like you’re up in the mountains?’'
He replied, “Makes me want to pull out my sleeping bag!”

I  know he was just teasing, but he loves to humor me.

To carry out the woodsy theme I hung an old pair of snowshoes over the bed.  My first instinct was to add a spray of greenery and dress them up.  But then I decided, what if we needed them to get to our cabin, better just leave them simple. lol!

We packed up the ski’s for a little cross country exercise.

I love my new deer pillow!  It was a give away win from Debra at Common Ground.

We may need to take along a couple of little oil lamps to light the way.

I leaned an old sled against the red cabinet,

DSC00521

and placed a $2 thrift find sleigh ride sign on top.

DSC00510

Who knows, we might find time to sleigh ride or perhaps wander out and build a snowman.

I gathered a little piece of plaid and tucked it inside of a pair of vintage skates.  Then I draped them over the bed post.

DSC00491

I dressed up the bench with a white bolster pillow, a pom pom throw, and one of the plaid pillows I made out of an old dress last year.

DSC00507

This is not vintage, but how perfect is this sweet stocking pillow that I got for my club gift Monday night?  Love it!

DSC00508

I gave the bench a few vintage touches of plaid as well with my old scotch tins and a tote that I filled with greenery, a wintry branch, and berries.

Notice the crochet doily?  A .$50 cent estate sale find.  It made me smile.  I can just imagine someone’s granny making it.

DSC00498

We love our Utah mountains.  They certainly are gorgeous in the Winter!  Look who else loves them. . .yup, that’s Santa heading home with his tree.

The deer on this pewter plate reminds us of what we might see wandering in the woods.

If the lakes not frozen over hubby might drop a line and try to catch a fish.

I actually had a burlap wreath hanging on this old green door.  But then I saw how Mary Alice at Chateau Chic had decorated her old creel and It inspired me to do the same.

DSC00528

Of course we have to decorate a tree to celebrate the season.

DSC00520

I placed it in a vintage tree stand, (they don’t make them like that anymore), and hung ice skates, mittens, stars, and red cardinals.

I hope you find some time to spend outdoors this holiday season!

Jann

Everything is perfect - love the plaid.

I have to say that my favorite is the pillow only because I want to copy it.

We love your Utah mountains and snow too, but we bought season passes to June Mountain so we will be getting our money's worth there and won't ski in Utah this year.

Thanks for hosting this fun link party.
