Smash Blast!

Hello my friends, I am knee deep into Christmas decorating.  Having so much fun, but before I dove into it I had a blast creating pages for a Christmas 'Smash' book with some friends.

Not sure what a smash book is?  Basically it's a small scrapbook that you just 'smash' anything you want onto the pages.
We are going for a vintage feel and leaving spaces on half of the pages for a photo.

I thought I'd take a break from all of the Christmas madness, :)  and share the pages we've created so far.

This is the first page I made.  As you can see it contains an assortment of random things that I love. (vintage postcard, old buttons, jingle bells, and a clock image)

 
This sweet bird themed page was created by Joanne, a local friend I met through Instagram.

There are four of us working on the book.  We are each going to design 4 double sided pages and then create the same ones for each other.  We will end up with 16 double sided pages.  My sister in law is joining in the fun, but she is living in NC.  She will create her pages at home and bring them when she comes for Christmas.  She does amazing work!

Paula from Pollyanna Reinvents was on a roll and created these next three.



 
These next three were created by me.  You can see that some of them are very simple, leaving space for a photo.

 
The darling little angel card was sent to me last year by my blog friend, Rose.  She received it as a child from her grandma.

 Creating Smash pages is so much fun!

How did this come about?  Joanne and Paula had seen the Witches guide book that my sil and I made a few years ago and asked if we could make a Christmas one.

  Paula and Joanne are the ones that started referring to them as smash books.  I had heard the term before, but didn't think of it till they mentioned it.  I thought I was making a guide book for Santa.  lol!

Mug Rug and a Hug

Hello my friends, have you ever heard of a mug rug?
It's a cute little mat, smaller than a place mat used to hold your teacup or mug and a small treat.
 
About a month ago Kimberly from
Camp and Cottage Living contacted me
and asked if I would be interested in joining
a 'mug rug exchange'.
 
Of course, I jumped on it.  I was partnered up with Stephanie from
The Enchanting Rose.  She is so talented and I knew that my mug rug would be fabulous!
 
When my package arrived, it certainly did not disappoint!

A gorgeous lace tree with bling on top. I also love all of the pretties sewn into the edges!
 

 
And look at the other lovelies she sent me.
 

Love all of the gorgeous lace and embellishments she added.


 
 
Even the tea and chocolate was dressed up so lovely.
 

 
This afternoon I fixed me a cup of hot chocolate and a piece of pecan pie.  I do believe it tasted more delicious than usual.  Could it be because it was sitting on my mug rug? :)
 
 
 
I knew that Stephanie loved pink so I gave her a pair of pink mittens on her mug rug.
 

I threw in a few pink vintage goodies.
 
This exchange was so fun and I'm sending hugs to both Kimberly and Stephanie!

Howdy Pilgrim!

Before I jump head over heels into Christmas decorating I have to take time to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday.
 
As I ventured out onto the porch a couple of weeks ago to add a touch of Thanksgiving décor I couldn't help but think of one of my all time favorite actors, John Wayne.
 
Truly, (in my eyes), an American hero!

 
As family enter the door for our Thanksgiving feast this little guy will be saying, "howdy pilgrim".
 
I remembered that John Wayne used the word pilgrim often, but was amazed at how many quotes there were from him using it.  Just google and you'll see what I mean. :)
 

The pilgrim says, welcome and the shaft of wheat is wishing them bountiful blessings!
I've had the pilgrim for years, but every time I pull him out I just have to say, 'howdy'!
 
 
And it certainly wouldn't be Thanksgiving without pumpkins.
 
All gathered together on a vintage ironing board.
 
 
May your table always be filled with an abundance!
 

And may we always remember to "Give Thanks"

 
I feel so very blessed for all that the good Lord has
 provided me with!

I know that many of you are knee deep into your Christmas decorating.  I haven't started yet, and will wait until after Thanksgiving to start decorating upstairs.
However,
I've decided that I'm gong to tackle the basement before Thanksgiving.  Something I haven't done before.  I'll probably never hear the end of it from the kids, but come this weekend, let the fun begin!  :)

Adding a Romantic Touch to the Farmhouse Basement

Hello my friends, soon I will be pulling out the Christmas décor.  But before I do, I wanted to share a few changes that I have made in our basement.
 
I wanted to add a bit of romance to the farmhouse style.

Quite a while ago I had picked up some toile curtains at a thrift shop.  There were two small swags and one very long valance.  I cut the valance in half and attached one swag to each.  I was able to make it work for my two windows.


I added lace purchased from Joanne's fabrics.  I smile because the thrifted curtains cost me $10 and the lace cost me $40.  And that was using a coupon.  Still, pretty inexpensive curtains.

 
 
I added a ladder filled with some of my vintage linens to one of the corners. The lamb was another thrift find.  I couldn't resist his sweet face.

 
Notice that the ladder is black now?  ha, ha, no you're not losing it.  I'm using the white one on my upstairs hearth for fall.
 

I scored this sweet pillow for less than $5 at a damaged goods store.
 

 

 
To bring out more of the blue I've filled the bottom shelf of my primitive cabinet with blue and white dishes.


 
A sweet hurricane lamp was added to the milk and cream table.


And how could I resist a chippy red chicken?  I have a plain one, but somebody had painted this one red and the paint was chipping off. I sprayed it with a clear varnish hoping to preserve it.

 
I have touches of fall in the family room area and I picked up these two tole trays just this week.
 
 
 
I'll be packing it all up and replacing it with Christmas décor.  I'm so excited to start the holiday madness!  :)
