In the Dining Room

Hello my friends, today I am sharing the Thanksgiving décor in my dining room.

But first, I have a confession to make. . .I don’t actually have a formal dining room.  This is the dining area that connects my kitchen and family room together.

Because I want to join Nancy from A Joyful Cottage for her Every Room in the House-Dining Room party for all purposes today it is a ‘dining room’. lol!

There are two black chairs with wood seats at each side of the table and a parson burlap chair on each end.

Pretend you don’t see that kitchen island. Hee-hee!

Small berry wreaths hang on the back of the four black chairs.

I chose the drop cloth table runner I made a couple of years ago for the center of the table.

It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without Tom Turkey.  I love his subtle color.

DSC00103

I placed him on my green reproduction jadite cake stand ( a gift from a dear friend), and added some dried Hydrangeas.

Next to it is my French mug rack from Décor steals.  It holds white gravy boats and other smalls.

I picked up all three of these gravy boats at a recent estate sale for $8.  SCORE!  Only one is old, but for the price I couldn’t resist!

Gravy Boats

I placed a thrift find Johnson Bros. bowl on top.

(I stand on chairs just for you)

I found two of these dark brown transferware teacups at a thrift as well.  The little brown pitcher I bought years ago at T.J. Maxx.

I found this sweet Johnson Bros. pitcher at a thrift two years ago.

Then last year after Thanksgiving I found this bowl with the same covered bridge pattern.
I filled it with more Hydrangeas.

I love how the green cake stand pulls out the soft green color in this bowl and pitcher.

The most recent change that I did in the dining room is to turn our built in desk area into a china cupboard.

This is what it looked like before.  As you can see it just stored medicine and mainly ‘junk’.

DSC00004

I took the doors to a cabinet shop and had seeded glass added and I painted it white.

I’m not showing the bottom because well, here comes confession #2.  I haven’t finished painting the drawers.

I love it and it’s the perfect spot for highlighting my seasonal dishes.

The cupboard on the right displays my recent $4.50 find of green Pyrex bowls, a small bit of my wheat collection, and wheat Pyrex.

Vintage Kitchen
Found all of the transferware at thrifts and a yard sale.  Oh happy day!

Transferware

The turkey plates and little bowls are from T.J. Maxx.  I love mixing old with new!

Thanksgiving Dishes

There you have it my Thanksgiving ‘dining room’.

if you look close you can see the unfinished drawer on my desk turned china cabinet.

Happy November!

I love this time of year.

I love the way you changed out your wall cupboard, Jann!! And if I were to build a house, I'd skip the formal dining room and have an eating area open to the kitchen as you have. Fun tablescape!

Jann- Your dining "room" is great. How often do people really use formal dining rooms anyway? I love that green cake plate! What a great gift that is!

That was smart to turn that cupboard above your desk into a china cabinet. It is perfect and really adds a lot of style to that area. Love it.

Hope you have a great Sunday night - xo Diana

Hi Jann

I'm still around, just taking a much needed blogging break. I'll be back, but for now I'm just visiting friends and not posting.

Love your thanksgiving touches!

Your kitchen/dining area is so pretty! I love what you did with the desk area. It's so smart to make it work for your needs. The dishes look great there.

I have a desk area right off the kitchen. I'd like to remove the cabinets above the desk and put in open shelves. Surprisingly, my husband didn't act like that was too crazy. :)

It all looks so pretty, Jann. I love the transformed desk shelves to china hutch. The brown transferware is sooo pretty for Fall. Your turkey on the cake stand is so cute. I have a runner that I made that is almost like yours, but mine has a bit of lace. Your dining area is homey and cozy!

I like how you changed out the desk to a built in china cabinet. The berry wreaths hanging from the chairs generate an idea for myself as I am planning an autumn tea party. Thanks!

I'm so glad you linked up to the party, my friend. It just wouldn't be complete without your decorating flare. I get so many great ideas from what you share. (Hey, I think I just wrote a poem!) The transformation of the cabinet was a smart move. I like it very much. Your transferware and vintage pieces are so pretty. Love it all. Hugs, Nancy

You must be getting to the thrift store before I do.since I would have bought everything you have! You do have a way with styling dishes, and finding them!

I love it and the pieces of transfer ware, so envious. I'm slowly starting a collection. Mostly from Nancy's Daily Dish. I'm buying a piece at a time. Really like your turkey taking center stage

I think all your beautiful decorating on the table, the great pieces in the cupboard and the sweet wreaths on the chairs make this a "formal" dining room!!!
