Hello my friends,
here in Utah it won't be long till we start shoveling snow. We received our first snow earlier this week.
Not enough to shovel, just the right amount to get you in the Christmas mood.
Now I'm ready to listen to Christmas music!
I have a quick and easy project to share with you today.
Although we have a snow blower, I still pull out the handy dandy shovel now and then.
But let's face it, the snow shovels now days just aren't as cute as they use to be. That's right folks, snow shovels are cute!
Last Spring I happened to spy a sweet red snow shovel at a thrift shop. Now I knew that I probably wouldn't use it, but it had great patina and I so had to buy it!
On the way home I kept thinking about it and that's when I decided it would be fun to decorate it for next Winter.
Lucky for me, everything I needed would be found at various thrift stores. I often pick up tired and worn out Christmas arrangements just for the fun goodies. Greenery, berries, picks, pinecones, etc.
I also scored the primitive snowman bucket and tin snowflakes.
Love the silly smile!
I didn't think to take photos, but I simply glued a small brick of oasis in the center of the shovel. Styrofoam would work as well.
Then I stuck the items into it.
It was so much fun, why not make another?
This one didn't have the cute red shovel, but the red metal on the handle made up for it!
Because I pulled the snowballs out of an old arrangement, they already had a pick added to them. Bonus!!
Love this vintage snowman ornament. I do need to give him a new broom.
The only thing I hot glued was the snowflake. Wasn't sure how well it would stay.
I decorated them so that they could be used all winter, not just for Christmas. One will find it's way onto my porch and the other will be a gift.
We still have remnants of snow from Mondays storm out on the deck so I had to play with them a little. :)
SNOW much fun!!
hugs,
Jann

Your shovels are just adorable. Now I'll be on the lookout for a old rusty shovel!
Jann, cute cute cute!!
Jann, these shovels are just so cute all decorated up. I am surprised you have snow already. We've been having a lovely fall here so far and no snow in the forecast yet. Unlike last November when we had several inches of snow already. Every year is different.
Oh goodness. How cute. You already have snow? Oh my!

Well, those shovels sure are cute but I wish we didn't have to own one. lol You did a a really cute job on them-both of them.
I am already dreading winter...ugh!
Have a great night- xo Diana
Those are Snow Cute, Jann! Love them!! Very creative and fun! Enjoy, Cindy
Cute : ) Oh how I would love try out living in a snow area, but I don't know if I would like it long term but every SO.CA. girl thinks about it.
Those are adorable! Cute idea. Have a great week! Lynn
I love your snow shovels - they really look terrific.
Have a great weekend.
Hugs,
Mary
Yikes, I love the red one. I found a snow shovel this summer at a garage sale. I think it was hovering around 100 degrees that day. The shovel was only $1.00. Well worth it. They thought I was crazy for buying it but we do get a touch of snow every year. Yours decorated are super cute.
Oh Jann, those are adorable! How fun to see snow, we probably won't have any until December or so.
They look so festive and pretty. I have some polystyrene balls in my stash so when I have a spare minute I am planning to make some snowball picks. They will look great added to my Christmas decorations.
Your snow shovels are too too cute.
Oh my gosh, those are so cute! When I see those on Pinterest or on other blogs they always make me swoon. We don't have snow shovels here in Texas but I bet I can find an old dirt shovel. :)
Hi Jann,
These are just adorable. How nice for the snow to fall to display them for your post lol! No snow here yet yeah!
Have a great Friday and wonderful week end.
Kris
Such a fun idea! I will have to be on the lookout for old metal shovels.
I had a different reaction to the snow here in Utah this week. My kids were all excited and keep hoping it won't melt and I'm finding myself thinking "NO NOT YET!" ;) I'll be in the mood closer to Thanksgiving, I hope.
Thanks for sharing with us at the #HomeMattersParty link party.
Very cute, shovels are great places decor---I always did the handles, so you could still use the shovel. but this works too. We were supposed to have flurried here this morning, but think the wind, couldn't be bothered to set it down today---very windy in Chicagoland.
Hi Jann, wow those snow shovels really looks so cute and festive the way you decorated them!
I hope you have a nice day and weekend.

These are super and how smart to have grabbed all those old arrangements to get that super stuff to use. No snow here in NJ. I do wish it would get cooler than it is. Yes, that poor little guy need an improved broom.
Cindy
I hope we do not get snow where I live. Usually we only get light snow or a couple days of it, but one year we were hit with a bad storm and I was stuck in my vehicle on a rural road until a road crew rescued me! Cute shovels but hope decor comes off easy if needed to shovel!
So adorable Jann! I am really ready for Christmas decor. I'm not doing Thanksgiving justice.
Love them! Last winter someone stole one of our 'good' shovels and left a old cheapie in its place. I commiserated with my H but in the back of my mind I was thinking it would look good with a big plaid bow! After seeing yours I may kick it up a notch with a few greens. Awesome!
I live on the Canadian Prairies and we typically have snow on the ground for 6 mths of the year and temps down to -49F so I cannot tell you how excited I am over this! Every and any way to make winter more cheerful is tops in my books! Remember in a land before time, as in before they made lightweight plastic snow shovels? Well I have a vintage old HEAVY rusty brown metal snow shovel that is going to be so much fun to decorate in a rusty way like this I am so excited! Now just got to remember what corner of my universe I shoved this old relic into and go dig it out! Thanks so much for the smile your fun idea will bring to many of my snow filled days ahead! :)
Jann, I dream of living in a warm place and never using my snow shovel for any but a cute decoration....it's just a dream...I have been thinking of getting it out and oiling it. LOL I love your cute shovels. Really adorable. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
The shovels are so cute!!!

Jann,
SNOW much fun, indeed!!!
I L O V E SNOW!!!
Your SNOW shovels are adorable!!!
We are being teased, here on the Prairie, by the forecaster saying SNOW!!!
Today, it was near 75 degrees!!!
I'm December born and I LOVE SNOW!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Those shovels are just as cute as can be, Jann! You brought new life to those thrift decorations, for sure.
Adorable, Jan!

Your fun shovels look colorful and festive against the newly fallen bright white snow! We got a few inches this week, but it's melted already.
What a lovely idea! We don't get much snow in Oklahoma. Makes me miss the Catskills. I like that you get the stuff from thrift stores, too! Let's face it. HobbyLobby is soooo expensive.
Super cute, Jann! Now I have to keep my eye out for shovels. I know I'll have no trouble. I always look at them at estate sales, but have had no reason to pick them up, until now :)
Jann, you always make something extraordinary out of the ordinary. I love the way you decorated your snow shovels and they look so festive out in the snow. Thank you so much for sharing at Vintage Charm and hope to see you back this week. sb
Really cute Jan and just enough snow to show them off. Glad you recycle old decorations.
