Share Your Cup #251

Hello and welcome to Share Your Cup, (SYC for short).

I truly believe by sharing what fills our own cups that we help to fill others cups as well.

PRESERVING Our Way of Life. . .

Hello my friends,

with Memorial Day approaching my thoughts have turned to those valiant men and woman who served in the armed forces to help

PRESERVE

our way of life.

 

I've always had a weakness for things that are unusual or a bit quirky.  So when I spied a Navy life preserver at Urban Renewal, a fun and unique shop in St. George, UT I just had to have it!

 

 

It was time worn and I loved the bits of red showing through.  There was only this one and a plain white one.  I inquired as to whether or not it was authentic or if someone had painted it.  I got the answer that I was hoping for, "Oh, it's real.  We had a few of them and they have flown out of here".  See, I'm not the only one that likes unusual things.

 

I could hardly wait to use it on my mantle!  I started adding a few nautical things that I already had.  I painted the anchor on the thrift find pizza paddle a couple years ago.  The little sailboat has been in my Americana themed guest bedroom.  Which originally was our youngest sons bedroom at our previous home.

 

 

Last trip I took to get estate sale items from Aunt Bunnies estate we came across this dictionary.  I knew I had to buy it!

 

 

 

 

According to Webster:

 

Preserve means to Maintain (something) in it's original or existing state.

Many have given their lives serving our country in order
to do just that!

Buoy am I ever so thankful for their service!! :)

I love adding a bit of whimsy!  Something that doesn't always make sense.  That would be this shaving mug and a couple of shaving brushes.  I have a small collection of about 6 or 8.  I picked up the mans comb at an estate sale last year.  I love the red/blue
graphics on it.

 

I have an Americana banner I made a few years ago that I will add when I pull out my 4th of July boxes.

 

The flags had to come out for Memorial Day.

 

I added one of my Americana quilts to a small ladder.  I always smile when I pull this one out.  It's one of the first quilts I made and I lost so many of my points.  You quilters know what

 I'm talking about.

I brought the corbels home from Charleston last year and I love them!  They get moved around here and there.

 

 

 

My "Preserving Life" mantle is my salute to those who have served.

 

So loving that life preserver!!

I know that May can be such a busy month with lots of things going on with school.  I attended one of my granddaughters dance festival this morning, and will attend another's

graduation on Friday.

Last week I had a lot of fun Placing Tiles on an old shovel.  Since then I've placed tiles on a birdhouse and a dresser top.  I'm just having too much fun!  :)

Changes inside Hilltop Cottage

Hello my friends,

 

I'm sure that many of you know that hubby, my son, and son in law built me a she shed last spring.  It took until Fall for her to be completed.  This photo was taken at a Fall Tea I hosted.  Since then hubby has added a pergola over the porch area.

 

 

 

We stored some of outdoor furniture inside for winter and I could hardly wait to empty it out and play!

 

While giving her a good spring cleaning I made a few changes.

 

Notice the teal green cabinet in the top center photo.  I used it to house some of my pots and seed packets.  Our youngest daughter moved into an apartment and asked if she could take it to hold some of her clothes. 

 

It sat on top of an old iron rite and I place everything inside of a tote that just sat on the ground inside of the shed.

 

At our last junkin adventure with the estate I am helping with I spied something in one corner of the basement.

 

It looked to be the top piece to an old stove.

 

 

 

Although I'm sure the wooden shelves originally had to be metal.

 

It was instant love!

 

This baby has curves!!  :)

 

Wonderful metal brackets and two little plates, perfect for

holding a pot!

 



 

The top shelf holds a floral tin that stores seeds and my small cloche collection that was gifted to me by my friend, Joyce.

 

I placed my small finial collection on one end.  I collect so darn many things.  lol!

 

 

 

I am loving this sweet piece!  Worth a second look. (wink)

 

 

I have this old dresser that I painted a few years ago.  It's great for holding gardens supplies.  I had it out on my deck for a few years and the veneer top pulled back.  So now that I'm a tile expert, (hardly).  I decided to tile the top using a broken bumble bee pot and a couple of yellow bowls.

 

I placed a large roll of jute on a metal pie tin underneath an old funnel.  I wove it up through, and now it's handy for tying back vines and plants.

 



On my gal trip to St. George with friends I bought 3 children's brooms at a yard sale for $2 each.  Don't know why, but I just love them!  They already had little hooks on the top so I hung them in the shed.  Handy for me and the grands.

 

One of them was on it's last leg, but I couldn't leave it behind.

 



 

I tied a couple of baskets from the garden edging I added to the beams.  One is a gathering baskets with a handle.  It's divided into three sections.  I can hardly wait to gather some blooms in it!

And last of all, Hilltop has a new guardian watching over it.

 

My friend, Shirley from Zettas Aprons made this sweet tomato farmer.  She formed his head out of clay and the Tomato Dust can is super cute.  She brought him by one day and said that he wanted to live in my shed.  Isn't that the sweetest?

 



 

I think he likes it here.

 

 

 

Hanging out inside of Hilltop Cottage sure makes me happy!

PlacingTiles

Hello my friends,

I have had a bit of fun placing tiles.

 

Last week I headed South to get more items for our next estate sale.  We decided that we would do something fun

before getting to work.

 

We started with this.

 

 

Lots of pretty pieces of broken glass.  When we've done tile projects before we have placed the dishes in a towel and broke them with a hammer.  We found some tile cutters in Aunt Bunnies estate.  They were great for cutting perfect pieces!

 

They remind me of beach glass.

 

We also used these.  Old shovels and tile adhesive, again from Bunnies estate,

 

 

 

We spread the adhesive on with a knife and started

 placing tiles.

 

 

Wipe off any adhesive that's on the tiles, or that is sticking up high.  You want to leave room for the grout.

 

I chose a round shovel and Julie and Dolly chose a square one.

 

We let them dry outside over night.  The next morning we spread a layer of white grout over the entire shovel.

 

 

Dolly is using a wet sponge to wipe off the excess.

 

Then we let them dry over night again.

 

We had an extra shovel so I made one for another sister.

 

 

I've placed mine out on our front porch. 

 

 

I've been debating as to whether or not I want to add some ribbon or something fun hanging on it.

 

 

It makes me smile each time I walk up to the front door.

 

I love placing tiles in more ways than one.  I play Words on my phone with a few of my blog friends.  It's another fun way to connect with them.  Some of them are so good at placing tiles!  :)
