A Walk About. . .

Last week we had two of our grandkids while their mom and dad were off celebrating their anniversary.

It kept us busy running them back and forth from school each day, but they were very good for grandpa and I.

Not wanting to be remembered as the grandparents that do nothing other than sit in front of the t.v. or their laptops all night long we opted to do a couple of activities with them.

Thursday night we took them to see the movie, Max.  It was really good and if you go see it I suggest you throw a few tissues in your purse.  Not that I needed any.  :)

Friday night we headed up American Fork canyon for a quick KFC picnic and a walk about at Cascade Springs.

Just as we were getting ready to leave our youngest son, Dalan called.  He and his wife, Sam and three boys decided to join us.

Cascade Springs is a natural spring fed by the precipitation from the mountains above.

They are filled with watercress and if you look closely you should be able to spy a trout or two.

Paityn asked if she could bring along a friend.  How do you say, "no" to nine year old girls?

Jack liked the cool bridge.

Will was such a good boy!  Mom kept him in the stroller so that he wouldn't run off.  We don't call him Will-de-Beast, or Will the Pill for nothing.

Evan seemed to enjoy his 'free ride'.

Daddy called it his baby necklace.

Isn't this little chubster a doll?

And Braxton just continued to look, 'studly'.  Isn't that what teenage boys do?

 (gotta love those red Converse!)

Oh, and if you do go see the movie, Max.  Check out the boy star.  Both hubby and I thought that Braxton could play his double.

Oh, and remember those bright red converse?  Well, he was walking along the wood edge and fell in.  One shoe came out muddy, but he washed it off in the clean flowing water and it looked good as new.  Boys will be boys!

You can see how fast the water was flowing under the bridge.  And of course, I loved the moss covered rock.

Grandpa shot this photo of me and some of the kids.

We always take advantage of teaching moments along the trail.  I told the kids how the Pioneers used this plant for band-aids and toilet paper.

Mother Nature provided us with the beginning of Falls beauty.

I have to tell you the funniest thing we saw.  When we first started down the trail there was a family picnicking on the ground right behind a 'No Picnicking' sign.  It made us laugh and I wanted so badly to snap a photo and send it into Jimmy Fallon.  Thought that wouldn't be very nice, so I opted not to do it.

At the end of the trail Braxton climbed up this broken branch and sat down.  Guess who encouraged him to stand up, grandma?

And this tree soon became filled with a bunch of monkeys.

Oh to be a kid again!

hugs,
Jann

Plaid, Pumpkins, and Pickings. . .

When we start pulling out plaids, gathering pumpkins, and picking from the garden you know Fall is right around the corner.

I was so excited when I got a fall plaid throw at the Pendleton store that I couldn't wait to play with it!

Click here if you want to take a tour of the Pendleton Mill.

I grabbed a piece of rusty metal, my chippy yellow chair, and plopped that baby down.

I tell you, I am just mad about plaid!

We have had two of our grands staying with us this week and I run them to and from school each day.

The very day I planned to play with my Pendleton I drove by a house selling pumpkins on the way home.

One might say, it was destiny!  :)
(really, you never see roadside pumpkins this early)

Next came the boots.  A $2 score at a yard sale last Spring.  Sunflowers picked from the garden added the perfect touch.

It's coming together nicely, wouldn't you agree?

Let's see what else we can find in the garden.  Oh yes!  My sweet hanging bucket (it has a hook on the back), with the orange trim.

Add another pumpkin, one that has a bit of green, a red cabbage, and clippings from my Russian Sage bush.

I love a bit of Nature in my vignettes!

I found the two floral chalkware plaques at our thrift for $1 each.  They had a few worn places, but I came home and rubbed them with dark wax and they look wonderful!

Isn't it fun to see something come together?

It's everything I'd hoped it would be!  ha, ha!

I've been holding on to summer, but now I'm Fall-ing for Fall!
hugs,

Gotta Get Me a Pendleton!

Hello my friends,
Years ago the name "Pendleton" was very popular with my parents generation.
I doubt there were many men who didn't own at least one Pendleton shirt.

One thing for sure is that if you got a gift that was marked Pendleton, you knew that it was good quality and that the person who bought it had shelled out big bucks.

I hadn't thought about Pendleton in years until while on a road trip to Oregon we drove through the town.

I have been wanting a plaid throw in Fall colors so I was so excited and thought surely I could get one there.

Nope, turns out that if you want a Pendleton you either have to visit the outlet near Portland or go to the factory in WA.

We decided to do both.

I didn't take pictures at the outlet and when we arrived at the factory we found that the tour was closed for the week.
Still,
we were not disappointed.  Lots of eye candy to see in the Pendleton Mill Store!
(all photos were taken with my phone)

There was plenty of clothing, but what caught my eye were the blankets and the antiques.

Gorgeous throws,

backpacks, and scarves.

Even a little something for the babes.

Antiques thrown in the displays for extra fun!

I fell head over heels in love with this supply cart, which they actually still used.
Wouldn't it be sweet filled with blankets?

I was surprised to see that you could even buy yardage.

It was fun to see one of their original shirt patterns on display.

This is where the factory workers (not sure if it's still used) punch their time cards.

Now it's time for me to clock out.  :)

But as you can see, we did not leave empty handed. Hubby is posing with his new buffalo check shirt (it's in the bag) and yup, I got that Fall throw.

I'll be showing how I used it in a post later this week.

I hope you enjoyed the tour!

hugs,
Jann
