Having a BALL with Daisies. . .

I know that I had planned on sharing my ‘outdoor bath’ with you for my next post.
But sometimes, I just gotta switch things up a little. lol!
I have been anxiously waiting for my Daisies to bloom so that I could share this sweet little wool table runner that I recently completed.

I love wool, aqua jars, and Daisies so when my friend, Amanda offered to share this pattern with me I was elated!  It was a small candle holder so I took it to a copy shop and had it enlarged to make a runner.

I have been waiting for my Daisies so that I could pick a little bouquet to go in one of my vintage ball jars and place in the center of the runner.
Last night myself and a few friends attended a local garden tour.  One of the homes had feverfew blooms in a jar.  My sis said, “Don’t you have these little Daisies”?.  Immediately I thought, why wait?


I picked a few extra blooms to share with my sis and placed them in an enamel German pitcher I bought at an estate sale yesterday.
Why not sit them in the living room next to my cute thrift find Daisy plate until I give them away?

Although they aren’t Shasta Daisies, they still are so sweet!


I love the rustic chippy look of this pitcher.  However, I really debated whether or not to buy it.  Loved it, but it was not cheap.  I dished out $40 for this.  When I questioned the lady in charge of the estate sale as to why it was so much, she said because it was from Germany.  I had to tell myself, “if you want it, buy it”!  I often have to remind myself that this is Utah and vintage items are not as inexpensive here.  Don’t often find the bargain prices that some of my blog friends in other states do.

Lastly, I had to play a little with my Daisies outdoors on a rustic bench I bought at a yard sale last Sat. for $15.  The bench found a new home out on my front porch.


It’s easy to see that I really was having a ‘ball’ with my new runner and Daisies!

The last few days have felt more like March.  Torrential rain yesterday and this morning I awoke to a garden that looked more like a jungle.  More about that in an upcoming post.

I have been so busy the last week and a half.  Attending both home and garden shows.  I have lots of wonderful inspiration that I will be sharing with you!

Babs from Upstairs Downstairs shared her outdoor bakers rack decorated three ways.  This was my favorite!

This girl loves to eat and I always have a hard time picking just one food feature.  I thought this Chicken Club Sandwich with homemade Caesar dressing shared by Deborah from The Beautiful Matters was the perfect summertime meal!

Creating Rooms in the Garden part three. . .The Kitchen

I can’t think of a better place to have an outdoor kitchen than close to the herb garden.

Rustic as it may be, this stove is a real beauty!

Rhubarb and Chives flourish. 

Impatiens and Begonias are planted in this shady cooking area.

Feathery Fennel gives you a whiff of black licorice.

Lemon Balm and Marjoram bury a vintage plow.

Unruly mint is contained in galvanized buckets.

Directly across from the kitchen is the vegetable garden. While the tomatoes, peppers, beets, cucumbers, and squash  are still small, the lettuce and cabbage have gotten very large.

Although it’s not by the stove, every outdoor kitchen needs a sink.  Where else are you going to corral those dirty dishes?

Next we’ll be touring our ‘outdoor bath’.

Making Room (s) part two. . .the Living/Dining Room

Welcome to part two of my creating rooms in the garden posts.  If you missed the entry and sitting room you can see them here :  Making Rooms

The area under our pergola would have to be our outdoor ‘living room’.  It’s the place where we do the most living.

I wanted it to be very welcoming with lots of seating.

Of course we have to have fresh flowers!

This to me is ‘rustic elegance’.  A beautiful Hydrangea in a rusty shopping cart.

Two of my sisters, a friend, and myself  each made a couple of chicken wire cloches.  An old door knob and a pearl napkin ring were added to the top.  My sister in law, Laurie had made one with the napkin ring and I loved the touch of bling.

Even the dining table has a pretty bouquet picked from the garden.

A scalloped quilt with yo-yo flowers makes a pretty tablecloth.  I made this one years ago.

The rock wall edge at the back of the pergola, (living room)  holds more garden goodies.

My chicken feeder I stenciled a couple years ago.

A birdhouse built by my dear, father in law.  Of course I added all the rustic junk.

A couple of planted tool trays.

Planted teapots sit on a small ladder alongside a few of my vintage sprinklers.  A small metal ice cream freezer is planted with impatiens and the pint size garden tools are handy for the grands.

A fun place to relax amongst garden treasures.  This to me is what I call, ‘living’!

Making Room(s). . .

Hello my friends.  I have always thought that your garden should be an extension of your home.

After all, we spend plenty of time out there during the summer.

Extra rooms, one might say.   By creating rooms in the garden you are inviting visitors to wander and discover.

Your gardens should reflect your style and personality.  As you will soon see, mine are a bit eclectic; just like my home.

In the next few posts I will be sharing some of my garden rooms with you.

What better place to start than in the entry?  Like most of you, I have two entrances into our gardens.  This one is on the East side.

Although it looks like a simple moss wreath hanging on the gate. . .it really is a large plastic marquee letter ‘O’ that I covered with sheet moss.  Welcome to the ‘Olson’ gardens!

We just added the flagstone pathway last week.  I planted moss and other steppables between some of the rocks.

Now let’s step over to the entrance on the West side of our home.  No, this is not a square letter ‘O’.  It is actually a moss wreath. lol!  Gotta keep you guessing.

Just before you enter the gate there is this small sitting area.  One might call it the parlor.  I did the flagstone (all by my little ol self) the first year we moved into our home.

A while ago the early blooming steppables were covered in tiny blossoms.  Now the moss and thyme are getting ready to bloom.  Don’t you love how the garden is ever changing?

One must have plenty of eye candy in the parlor.  This planter box just got planted on Tuesday.

Before too long Morning Glory vines will be climbing the old screen door and rakes.

You might remember this from last year.  It was not a planned thing, just sort of happened.

A rustic thrift find metal pan is planted with sedums.

Next to the entrance of the gate is a sweet pink climbing rose.

And just inside the gate is a French Lilac bush. We are still enjoying this late bloomer.

A chippy stand holds a vintage watering can, a potted miniature rose, one of my old sprinklers, and a tool box planted with more sedums.  Next to it are an old pitchfork and shovel.  A chicken feeder planted with Lavender sits below.

No parlor would be complete with out a couple of chairs and a table.  I bought the chairs years ago at Target.  I had them sandblasted and powder coated about 5 years ago.  The table was built by my nieces husband years ago also.
