Hound Dog Crazy!

For quite some time I have been hound dog crazy for Hounds Tooth.  So much so that I bought this cute black and white ottomon.  Right now it’s in hubbies office, but I hope to use it in my craft room someday.

Next I bought this green hounds tooth chair for my family room.

Then one day while blog hopping I saw this on the Sisters of the Wild West blog.  For me it was instant love!

Then I remembered that I had purchased a sofa table at a yard sale last Fall for $20. Doesn’t she have nice legs?

I painted her white using a homemade chalk paint.  I mixed 2/3 white latex with 1/3 Plaster of Paris.  Covered very nicely.

TThen following the Sisters instructions I marked the table in 3” squares and painted every other square green.   I loved the blue, but thought I would match my chair. At first I tried taping it off but decided it was easier to just fill it in with a large flat brush.  Then I cut a stencil (as per the sisters) and used it to give it the hounds tooth effect.

Now it looks like this.

After sanding I waxed it with Annie Sloan clear and dark wax.  One thing I found that if I got more dark than I wanted if I went back with clear it would take some of it off.

That is up to a certain point.  It turned out a bit darker than I wanted, but could not get it any lighter.  I will live with it a while and see if I like it any better.

Here is a close up.

And after I decorated it.

I I also painted and waxed this small architectural piece I bought from Star Mill.  Not sure what it came off of.

The bee skep I bought in Williamsburg, VA while on vacation 3 or 4 years ago. I love it!

My table did not turn out quite as cute as the Sisters did.  I love their dark top showing through.  My table was cream and I was too lazy to paint it black first.

Still, kind of cute and happy to finally be done.  That is unless I decide it’s just too dark and I start all over again. lol
Hugs,

Jann

I think your houndstooth table turned out great! I have loved houndstooth since the 80s when I had a black & white houndstooth miniskirt! lol

Personally, I LOVE your table. I think it is just the right bit of dark waxing to give it an aged look. You did a great job on it!!

Love your little plaque thing, too. I had a bee skep for years that finally fell apart in the garden. I have kind of been on the hunt for another one- xo Diana

I think you did a wonderful job with the table and I love the green and cream combination a lot. The finish I think is perfect, not too dark or light with an aged appearance.Loving the bee skep and the pretty vignette on the table. You are going to have a lot of fun creating new vignettes on your new table. Thanks for hosting this week's a party,Jann and enjoy your weekend!Hugs,Poppy

Oh...That ottoman! I'd be very tempted to snatch it, too! I love the black and white...and, the houndstooth is looks so sharp!
Thank you, Jann, for sharing your "how tos" as you gave your sofa table a new face. I have a few things that I am stumped as to what to do with..and, you have given me inspiration. Plaster of Paris and latex paint...What a great technique!
I hope you have a nice weekend. I am headed to the Oregon Coast with my sisters and my Mom. It's strictly a "Girls Weekend"!

Howdy, neighbor! I live in Cedar Hills and couldn't be thrilled to find a fellow Wasatch woman and houndstooth lover! You can NEVER have enough houndstooth! Great job.

Your table is so cute - makes me want to do something clever with the antique white console table I have in my hallway...but, I won't. Too many other things I want to do more! Love what you did with yours though!
