Sweet Remembrance & Doily Bunting

Hubby and I just returned home from a weekend getaway.   Friday afternoon we headed South in search for warmer weather.

We found it with a nice 58 degree temp about 4 hours South in St. George, UT.

We were wishing we had brought our hiking equipment.  I mean like (shoes) because it would have been perfect weather for a hike!

So, if you’re not hiking then what are you doing?  Shopping of course!  Hubby patiently drove me to all of my favorite stores, thrift, and vintage shops.

At one thrift I found this little apron that brought back ‘sweet remembrance’.  Those of you who are from my generation will remember when the servers at wedding receptions wore pretty (usually sheer) aprons.

This pink beauty was only $1.50 and the lacy heart pocket makes it perfect for Valentines Day!

It also has lace on the bottom hem.  Isn’t it sweet?

While we’re on the subject of weddings I thought I would share with you a doily bunting I made last Friday.

After Christmas I was going through old magazines deciding which ones I still wanted to hang on to.

DSC00304

I found this in an old ‘2010’ May/June issue of Victoria.

I thought it was so sweet and that I could use it for so many occasions.  Wouldn’t they be darling strung throughout trees for an outdoor wedding?  Even cute indoors!

Because I have plans to do a red and white Valentines mantle I kept my bunting mostly white.

It cost next to nothing.  I used 9 doilies.  Thanks to my cousin, Betty for providing me with a lot of them.  I had a few that I was willing to cut up, but she had a lot to choose from.

Here’s the instructions if you are interested in making one:

1.  Iron and starch selected doilies so that they are reasonably stiff enough to prevent fraying when cut. (I used Aleene’s Fabric Stiffener and laid them out on cookie sheets to dry)

2.  Cut each doily in half and sandwich pieces between 1/2 inch double fold bias tape to create bunting.

3.  Neatly apply fabric glue to hold in place.  (I used Elmers school glue)

4.  When glue is completely dry you may sew along the seam binding for added security if desired.  (I did this)

This was in the same issue.  I love the doily covered monogram!

Here it is now hanging from my family room mantle.

Have you ran across anything that brought back sweet remembrance lately?  I know Sally from Salmugundi has when she shared a fun post about her husbands school sweater.

Thanks for the mention. I appreciate all of the traffic I get, which isn't big numbers. I just enjoy the comments and interacting with other bloggers with same interests. It has been fun getting to know you a little through our blogs. Would you believe that I have one of the aprons used by the ladies that served our wedding? Of course you would -- we have kept everything - LOL. My apron is watermelon pink - three tiers of organza. Have a good week. Sally

Jann, your doilie banner is so sweet and pretty. I'm adding it to my "to make" list. I didn't know that about those aprons, I have a couple and thought they were cocktail aprons, lol.

My "Utah Wedding" aprons were sheer white. My colors were red and white...hard to do in a pastel world back then. My bridesmaids wore red/white long gingham dresses that I made myself...along with my own wedding dress. The dress cost $30 to make and I wore it with a floppy hat I found at ZCMI that cost almost as much as my dress...$25. I almost have a heart attack each time one of my girls gets married...the prices get higher every year! Yikes! I loved Victoria Magazine...the doily garland will be something you can use forever! Love it!

I remember the hostess at my mother's church social meetings would wear these sheer aprons. Love that doily banner. this might be a great idea to share my grandmother's doilies with other members of the family.

That doily bunting is wonderful.

You are lucky. Steve would NEVER go thrifting with me. I was shocked that he went in the shops with me so I could show him some of the things I liked for Christmas.

Glad you found some warmer weather.

Pretty! I've been wanting to do this with my doilies for a long time! I just planned on folding mine over twine but i like the looks of the half doily better!

Remembrances... that's why I love to hunt and collect for vintage treasures- ALL the memories!
