Bundle Me Baby!

I’ve been  gallivanting about as of late. For the past two weeks I have been away ten of the fourteen days.

I could hardly wait to show you some of my yard sale and D.I. treasures.

My NEW favorite thing to do at yard sales is to say,
“Can you give me a bundle deal?”  This is a little trick I learned from the show, PICKERS.  Thanks to Frank I found a fun way of getting a better price.

Here are a few of my BUNDLES

I got this bundle for $50

The plaid thermos was marked $13 and the turquoise one was $8.  I  love the plaid  just as it is, but think the tqs.  will be so cute filled with flowers.

This group would’ve been about $15.

$13-A few years ago I bought a collection of red dishes when vacationing in Virginia.  What is a red dish collection without a hobnail bowl?

$8-Not sure what this is.  Looks like maybe something from the ‘50’s’ that would hold oil or salad dressing.  It was red and white so it caught my eye.

There were also the two milk bottles ($8 each) and one with a metal clasp. I can’t remember the price.

Add it all up and I think you’ll agree, $50 was a great deal.

I collect old sprinklers.  Thought these were awfully cute.

All but the pitchfork ($1.00) were bought at D.I.  I already have some of these cherry plates so it will be fun to add to my collection.  I will be pulling out my cherry décor soon.  Can’t wait!

I went to a quilt retreat at the home of a very special lady.  I will be blogging more about it this week.  Her Aunt, Bunny is what you might call a “Queen Estate and Yard Sale Lady”.  On Sat. she brought items over for us to buy.  It was so much fun.  We were limited to one item each until everyone had a chance to get something.  My first choice was the turquoise pitcher.

Wanted the high chair, but wasn’t sure where I could put it.  When no one else nabbed it I thought, “gotta have it!”  The paint is to die for!

Look at that!  Red with turquoise underneath.

This is the seat.  I am just going to give it an old fashioned cleaning with soap and water and varnish it.  I love it just like it is!

Now for the fun part:

It converts into this darling rocker.

It wasn’t a bundle deal, but because I bought the high chair/rocker ($75 – which is what she said she paid for it).  She threw the pitcher and beater in for free.

Front Porch Welcome

I love my vintage glider and chairs I purchased at the Star Mill Antiques.  They were real rusty, so I had them sand blasted and powder coated.





I’ll keep the light on!

Here are a few things that have happened in my little cul-de-sac in the past year and a half.
1.  Frequently we see deer just walking ever so nonchalantly up the road.
2.  Twice a car has pulled in here because the couple was having an argument.  I kept my fingers crossed that I didn’t have to call the police.  Luckily, both times they resolved it.   At least they had enough sense to pull off of the road.
3.  Probably the most exciting thing is that one morning I kept seeing more and more policeman dressed in SWAT attire gather in my circle.  When I went out to inquire whether or not this was a training op. the head guy informed me, “No mam, it’s the real deal.”
This soon became one of my favorite things to say. That and his 2nd quote.  “It’s just the way we roll.”  He said that when he informed me that they were going to be bringing in all kinds of big equipment.
I found out that there was an incident going on in a neighborhood close by. Our circle just happen to be a good place to gather.

Usually, my front porch is a very calm and relaxing place.
Every hour the town clock will chime.
But one never knows.
So please come by, whether quiet or noisy,
sitting with you would be sublime!

My  mother was an incredible woman who was adored by everyone who knew her.

Our dad died when I was a 9 month old baby leaving her with 8 children, me being the youngest.  She was such a strong woman that held her family together.

She was so friendly and fun to be around.

Never did she talk poorly of others.  I can still hear her voice saying, “If you can’t say anything good about someone, then don’t say anything at all.”

She was a wonderful cook and seamstress.  I loved her raisin filled cookies!  When Julie, Jeanne, and I were in High school she made all of our dresses.  We would simply give her a picture out of the Seventeen magazine and voila’ she would cut her own pattern and make us that dress.

She had a great sense of humor and never got angry.  Oh, except for when she played aggravation with our step dad.  Man oh man, did she get upset whenever he sent her home.

On this Mother’s Day, one thing I can say for sure is that this world is missing out by not having her here to brighten each and every day.

I know that you are anxious to find out the lucky winner of my give-away, but I must give tribute to another mom I had in my life.

My mother-in-law, Bonnie.

She was not the bubbly friendly sort of woman that my mother was, but ever so endearing.

She had a harder time opening up to people, but once she did, she was your friend for life.

I loved her very much.

My sister-in law, Laurie interviewed her and recorded her life history.

Bonnie was always so supportive of me and willing to help whenever possible.

One special memory, is when my hubby was still going to school and we had very little money to spend on extras.  One day she showed up at my door with 4 new outfits she had bought just for me.

Both my mother and mother-in-law loved and grew gorgeous roses.

I remember that my mom said that the rose was our fathers favorite flower.

For the month of May I designated by blue cupboard to  the memory of these two special ladies.

Now for what you’ve been waiting for:

The winner of the two paper birdhouses is – Jeanne.

How awesome!  She is my sister and has been a follower since day one.  She comments often and has tried to win every give-away.  She always says, “let’s keep it in the family.”  Today is her lucky day!

You know, she’s going to be indebted to my hubby because he drew her name out.

Happy Mother’s Day to you all and be sure and keep commenting.  I have another idea up my sleeve for my next give- away.

Good News

Yesterday, Tracy from ‘Cotton Pickin Cute’ made a comment on my blog and told me to check hers out.

Much to my surprise, the sweet little southern belle had given me an award.

She had received an award as ‘The most versatile blogger’.  In return she listed 15 other bloggers that she would pass this reward on to.  I was listed among them.

Ya’ll know that made me feel awfully special.  Isn’t that something a southerner would say?

Seriously though, I really do appreciate it!  Once when asked, “What is your blog about?”  I paused, and replied, “What ever pops into my head.”

Therefore, the name of my blog (even though I picked it because of that sweet Swedish woman, Mrs. Olson who did the Folgers commercials), seems fitting.  You never know what you’ll find in my cup each day.

Isn’t it funny, usually it’s late at night or early morning when I’m making my bed that something just pops into my head.

I’ve always said, “I know very little about a lot, and a lot about very little.”

I have a passion for so many things.  Too many, I’m sure some people would say.  Not to mention any names.

Hopefully, you enjoy my CRAZINESS and don’t think, “Woman, make up your mind, what is your blog about?”

Well enough, but thanks again to Tracy and I am so looking forward to getting to know her better.  She seems like my kind of gal!    xoxo
