Share Your Cup Thursday #68

Hello and welcome to Share Your Cup!  The party where you come to share the things that make you happy.  In other words, what fills your cup.

This past week has been a busy one.  On Saturday I attended a vintage sale, Fleattitude.  What a fun event and I did get a few fabulous things I’ll share later.  Afterwards hubby and I went shopping for a new sectional.  We are going to move our family room furniture downstairs and put the new one upstairs.  We had seen one a while ago.  Of course it had sold and we had to order it.  Now we will be waiting 6-8 weeks.

We also celebrated our ‘41st Anniversary’ on the 4th.  Thanks to all of you for your sweet comments on my somewhat silly post I did about it.  Sometimes I wonder if you think, “that girl is crazy’!

I also took a short two day trip to Vernal, UT with my sister, Jeanne and her daughter.  We did a little bit of research on our heritage.  Always fun to learn more about your relatives.  Oh, and I brought home a few treasures too.

Going out of town for a couple of days put me in the last minute mode.  I found myself visiting many of last weeks links just today. 

There were so many fabulous table posts shared because of Cuisine Kathleen's ‘Let there be white’ party that I could not possibly pick just one.  I enjoyed each and every one of them so much.  Truly fabulous ideas!

Now for this weeks features:

  I adored the cottage feel of Nancy’s garden  from Two Cottages and Tea.

I think I was having a bit of ‘front porch love’ this week.  Maybe it’s because I know that summer will be coming to an end way too soon.

And look at this farmhouse one Denise on a Whim shared of her friend, Mary’s home.

And how about Mary Alice’s from Chateau Chic?  Love that childs wheel barrow and bird cage.  Did I mention that my sister, Jeanne just found a cage and stand at a yard sale for $40?  I’m having a bit of jealousy going on over here!  Oh, and guesss what else?  I just snagged a piece of gingerbread trim like that you can see in Mary Alice’s window.

I thought this was too cute to not share.  Lisa from My Ordinary Country Life made her chickens their very own scratching area.  Now she’s just hoping they can read.

Jen from Lace Crazy has been creating the most fabulous pillows for her bed made from old curtains.  Jen is a fellow UT gal.

Kadee Willow shared the creative use of this grating and her new window treatment at her side door entry.

Blue Willow House has been refreshing her bedroom for summer.  Love her straw hat collection!

A Little Miracle

After many years, a little miracle came into the home of my nephew, Jacob and his wife, Gretta.

They were able to adopt a sweet baby girl.  They named her Elianna.

What a precious little bundle of joy!

I helped my sil, Laurie host a shower for the happy new parents.

We decided to go with a ‘NEST’ theme and throw in a bit of French charm.

The table was lined with a cute runner Laurie pulled together using pieces of assorted laces and trims. I will be making one of these!

The shredded nest is one that I made as favors a couple of years ago for a bridal shower.  I made the small little treat filled nests by rolling and hot gluing strips of an old sewing pattern.  For these small nests I cut the strips narrower.

They were one of the guests two take home goodies.  The other was one of these pennants tied to the back of the chairs. I went to Laurie’s house one morning and helped make a few flowers.  After that she made all of the rest of them on her own.  Lots of time and work!

She is a very talented lady and there were no two alike.

We created bird themed vignettes throughout her home.

A metal tree was placed on the island with little bird nests tucked in here and there.  Tags honoring the new babe hung from it.

A vintage blessing dress rests upon French themed books.

A bit of bling was added to a simple banner of torn fabrics tied to a piece of jute.

We adorned amber bottles with lace, muslin, and bits of bling.  Placed in an old box amongst green balls they brought about the Frenchy nest theme we were going for.

We served chicken taco salads (build your own) and assorted desserts.

Forgot to snap a pic other than the berries for the pound or angel food cake.

Little Elianna is now 3 months old and what a doll she is!

So happy to have her in the family!

Common Ground for Be Inspired

The Kitchen Sink. . .

Today is our anniversary.

There are those who would say that I have been standing in front of the kitchen sink for ‘41’ years. . .

Doing very little besides laboring over a hot stove and washing dishes.

Marriage has never been a drudgery to me.

Together we have shared lots of laughs and even shed a few tears.

 

He has always encouraged me with a ‘can do’ attitude.

When I wanted to open my own business and had 4 children at home, he never questioned why. .

Just took me to the bank to get a small business loan and said, “Why not give it a try?”

 

Raising children in my day was what one called, “woman’s work”. . .

He gladly took care of ‘our chicks’ in the evening while I taught classes and never did shirk!

Although we love spending time together, he gives me time alone. . .

To get away with family and friends, or even just to roam.

 

He’s never been one to bring home chocolate or flowers. . .

But ‘sprinkles’ me with kindness and generosity of the money he has earned working many long hours.

He has a hard time understanding my love for junk. . .

But this is the man who went in the basement of an antique store to search for an old crib bed springs for me.  I had told him I wanted one.   He found one, but we were unable to buy it.  Still, he happily loaded lots of other goodies into our trunk!

 

He stole my heart from the very first glance. . .

Tall, dark, and handsome – every girls dream!

And I am ever so happy that he decided to give me a chance!

 

I met him when I was a senior in high school and was really quite smitten. . .

But it wasn’t until college and I was away from him that I knew that the love bug had bitten!

On our wedding day I felt like Cinderella and Prince Charming had stolen my heart. . .

Soon we were whisked away to make our own start.

We are growing old together and so is our love. . .

Celebrating ‘41’ years is the best blessing I could ask for from the good Lord above!

Happy  ‘41st’ Anniversary to my Sweetheart!

This poem is a bit cheesy, but all humor aside, my life has been a joy ride!  lol!  I just can’t stop.

I always thought that I didn’t want to marry until I was at least ‘23’.  But you never know what life has in store for you.  After I met Greg (Shultz is what I call him).  We fell in love and I was married at the age of 19.  Boy does that ever sound young.  Had our first of 5 children when I was 21 and he was 23.  From there, oh how it has been ‘A Wonderful Life’!

Pretty and Petite. . .

I’m sure that when you read the title of this post you thought, “Oh, she’s going to post pictures of herself.”  lol!  I thought I’d give you a good laugh.  Don’t I wish I was pretty and petite!

This is the sweet little thing that I am talking about.

You may remember last April when I snagged this lamp at a thrift store for the mere cost of $3.99.

 

I love the white hobnail base, but the shade needed a makeover.

After pinning (Restoration Redoux) this beauty to my pinterest I decided it was just what I was looking for.

I cut lots of 3” circles.  Then the fun began.  I folded both drop cloth and muslin into thirds and cut 3 at a time.  It took awhile, but the result was well worth it.  Oh, and they don’t have to be a perfectly round circle.

Fold each circle in half and then into fourths.  I dabbed a bit of glue there to make sure it would stay.

Then just hot glue them randomly to your shade.  I tried to kind of use the brick method and made each row off set.

Want to see where this little petite thing ended up?  I had this sweet dresser in my craft room.  After, I found the cabinet of my dreams I had to find a new home for the dresser.  I am in the process of decorating the guest bedroom in the basement.  I think it’s going to be perfect in the room. 

 

Don’t you love the stripes and the curvy legs?  This gal has some shape!  I wish I could take claim to those cute stripes, but nope; I bought her that way.  Another great piece from the damaged goods store.

I borrowed the bird garland from my chicken wire display board.

I found the dainty mirror and paper bird at the damaged goods store.

I’m sure the little bird thinks she is nesting upon a bed of posies.

I think my petite lamp likes her new home next to other milk glass.  One bowl is filled with dew kissed roses from my garden and has a pink beaded antique hat resting on it’s rim.  The other holds lavender and a pretty scented heart given to me by my sil, Laurie.  She brought it home from her recent trip to France.

When I was getting close to the end I could tell that I was going to run out of circles.  Alas, I had cut all of my drop cloth and muslin scraps.  What’s a girl to do?  I cut a few white burlap circles and added them here and there.  Loved how it turned out!
