What Day is it?

IMG_3435

In case you didn’t know, today is the official “FIRST DAY OF FALL”

My cute daughter, Kylee left this sentiment on my chalkboard the other day.  Simple, but says it all.

I just finished making my second coffee filter wreath.  I have seen these for a year or so and always wanted to make one.

All it took was for two of my bff’s, Joyce and her sister Kathy to make one.  After seeing theirs, I only wanted one ever more. lol!  You know, keeping up with the ‘Jones’ and such.

IMG_3440

Deciding what to embellish it with is the funnest part.

IMG_3438IMG_3439

My hairdressers daughter, Sierra picked up this wide burlap ribbon for me.  I have used it a ton.  LOVE it!

I had a necklace with three keys dangling down, a little ribbon, some golden pom-poms, and a glittery leaf ornament I bought at Target after Christmas for $1.

Put it together, and the adorning was done.

I also just finished my Fall calendar.

There it is, that first day of Fall

If you have followed me for a while, you know then that I am an Advent Addict!

It all started with a Halloween one last year.  From there, oh mama you can only imagine.

Oh well, if it makes me happy what the heck.  One can never have too many calendars.  hee-hee!

Leaving with a “Happy Fall Y’all!”

What Kind of House are You?

Today I am joining Alpha-Thursday for the first time.  A girl needs to keep up on her studies, don’t you agree?  My W word is WHAT

Is it a bird, or is it a light?  That is the question I am asking myself.

You be the judge.

IMG_3406

Labor Day weekend I asked hubby if he would help me install a bit of yard art that I had picked up over the summer.

He was more than willing to get it out of the garage.

Remember the pillar I bought when I went pickin?  You can check it our here. http://jannolson.blogspot.com/2011/07/livin-my-american-pickers-dream.html That was an awesome $25 find.

Well, I picked up this birdhouse at a yard sale for $20.  It had a T.J. Maxx price tag on the bottom of $50.

IMG_3408

I  knew that the birdhouse was a bit small, but oh well I had it.  Let’s put them together.  This is what I got.

IMG_3408

At first I thought, hmmm; it is small but I don’t mind it.  Suddenly, I realized every time I glanced  it looked more like a lighthouse.

I can see it well from my family room window and from my upper level.  The more I see it, the more I think lighthouse.

I toured my first lighthouse last Fall while vacationing in Door County, WI.

It was in the little town of Fish Creek.

I loved the history of it all.

So, whether it’s a bird or a light; I think the house upon the pole is a keeper.

Hey, guess that makes me the ‘lighthouse keeper’.  lol! That is if it is a lighthouse.

Who knows, I may even put a light in it now and then.

We also put in these two smaller poles.

IMG_3409

I loved the chippy white pole, so I just put a birdhouse on top.  The other pole was stained brown.  I decided to paint it tqs. blue.  It’s hard to tell in the pic.

IMG_3411

What can I say, “Love those poles”!

Hope that you’re getting some last minute projects done around your house.

Till next time, I’ll leave the light on!

Fabulous Fall

Fall is such a fab time of year!  The sun still shines most days, but the cooler weather is a warm welcome!

As I came home from a quilting retreat last Thursday evening.  My friend, Jill and I noticed that the leaves in Spanish Fork canyon had started to change color.  There were pops of orange and red everywhere.

Just two days earlier, on our way to the retreat we saw no sign of color.  How quickly things can change.

So it is with my décor.  For now it’s Fall, but in just a couple of weeks it will be Halloween. From there you know the rest of the story.  Seems like it’s just one Holiday after another.  How quickly time flies!  Especially when you’re having fun.

Thought I would share a bit of my festive Fall before, just like the leaves; it quickly disappears.

I love doing stitchery.  I made this one last year.  It was so fun!  The leaves are tiny pieces of fabric.

The Sunflower table scarf once belonged to my Aunt Viola.  She lived close to our grade school.  My sisters and I would stop by after school for her wonderful custard and rice pudding.  I loved her, and cherish this treasure!

IMG_3386

Fall is the perfect time to pull out snuggly quilts.

I love the pops of chenille in this one called ‘Pumpkins Gone Wild’

This one is called, ‘Pioneer Picnic’

IMG_3385

I just made a new sunflower quilt at the retreat.  Can’t wait until it’s quilted!

IMG_3380

I added a couple of vintage books to bring out a bit more blue and orange.

IMG_3515

My giant rustic acorn seems to be quite content nestled among the leaf, berry, and mini pumpkin garland.

The owl candle holder is a new purchase.  Had to have him, he’s such a ‘HOOT’!

Am I Sick or What?

It’s not unusual  whenever I mow the lawn that I see deer droppings.

027

The other day however, I noticed a large unusual pile of, (you guessed it,) poo!

Don’t worry, no pic.  Really, I’m NOT that sick!

I found myself wondering, “What kind of poo is that?”

I even went as far as asking my hubby when he got home from work.

Is that sick or what?

See Oprah what you and Dr. Oz have done to us!

Not only do we wonder about our own poo, (Is it S or C shaped), but now we (or maybe only I) wonder about animal poo.

Something about poo, once it’s in your head it’s hard to get it out.  It’s kind of like a bad word.  I found myself thinking that I had better hum a song to see if I could get rid of the thought of poo.

Now, I really never thought about poo until after I saw that episode on Oprah.

Well, I did do a post that mentioned it when I first started blogging.  This was back when my only followers were family and a friend or two. However, I think it was after I had seen that episode.

If you enjoy this post, (I don’t think I’m the only sick person out there) hee-hee!  you might want to check it out.

Before you do, I must warn you.  The word that I used is a word that I NEVER use. Don’t know why, but that day it was the only word that seemed to fit.

http://jannolson.blogspot.com/2009/02/undaunting-questions.html

Did I mention that I got a lot of chastising about this post?

However, some of my children told me that they loved it.

Actually, I hardly ever watched Oprah.  It was before the day of DVR and I didn’t watch T.V. in the day time.

I even boasted about, “How I NEVER turned the T.V. on in the day.”  I was MUCH TOO BUSY for that.

Now I realize that I just missed out on a lot of important stuff.

Like, I’m so glad now that I know what healthy poo looks like.

Now that the Oprah Show is gone, my undaunting question is?

Who else in the world knows poo?

I’m not linking this post with anyone.  Thinking maybe this one is only for my die-hard followers.

Heavenly Hibiscus!

Tomorrow is Pink Saturday at ‘How Sweet the Sound”.

Thought I would share my Pink Hibiscus.

021020

022

I have three hibiscus.   One is on the South, one on the West, and this is on the East.

This one is three times as large as the other two.  It definitely likes that afternoon shade.

I will leave you with one of my ‘Pink’ quilts that I showed at our “Kennel Girls” Quilt show today.

015

The name of this quilt is “Heart to Heart”.

So I hope you enjoy it.  From my heart to yours!

I Went to a Garden Party. . .

Everyone was there. . .

073

No one recognized me. . .

Because I wore a hat upon my hair.

031

It’s called, work in the garden till two,  jump in the tub, fix dinner, throw on a hat to hide the hair, and go.

Posing by my Prairie Paisley quilt I made July 2010.  I love Red, White, and Blue.  This is one of my favorite quilts.

One of our local quilt stores, American Quilting threw this garden party. It was held in the owners garden.

Everyone was invited to bring a couple of quilts to display.

It was such a fun night with ice cream sundaes as a treat.

There were so many wonderful quilts.

Now these are just the ones in the front yard.  Seriously, we haven’t even made it out back yet.

My computer is acting up and won’t let me post anymore pics.

Guess it’s saying, “Really lady, enough is enough”.

I reckon you’ll all have to come back to get the rest of the story, or I mean party.

All I can say is, there’s a whole bunch more darling quilts to show you.

Hope you come back!
