I’ve Been Dreaming of a White (chippy bed for) Christmas!

Oh my friends, miracles never cease!  I finally finished painting my bed white.  Just in time for Christmas!

IMG_3806

What I thought was going to be a weekend project turned into a month ordeal.  That’s right, for the last month hubby and I have been going all feng shui and have been sleeping on our mattress on the floor.

I had been thinking about painting my bed for some time now.  Originally I planned on waiting until Spring.  One beautiful Saturday in November I decided to just go for it!  Thought I would finish it by Monday.  lol!  What was I thinking?  The bed had a lot of detail and it took me 4 coats of chalk paint to cover it like I wanted.  Of course, only to sand lots of it off.

IMG_3805

This is what it looked like last year.  I loved our bed for years, but it really was getting dinged up.  What do you think?  Do you like it white?  Be honest, I can take it.  Hee-hee!

IMG_9533_thumb[19]

I must say, I am loving it!  After hubby put it back together last night I teased and said we’d better be careful and not fall out of bed.  After all, the last month we’ve just literally had to roll out of bed in the morning.

This year I used the dotty pillowcases and red euro shams that I bought a few years ago from PB clearance.  The toile pillow was one I had from Ikea and my ruching white pillow is my latest clearance find from Thanksgiving Point.  I had my eye on it for some time and was thrilled to find it marked down.

IMG_3818

I’ve shown my redwork quilt before because I made it 7 or so years ago.  In case you are new here I’ll show a few blocks.  I still love it for the Winter months!

IMG_3845

Now how about a peek at some of my bedroom Christmas décor.  A lot of it is just Winter themed and I leave it up until February.

After we bought our new sectional for the family room this rustic green door made it’s way into our bedroom.

I found the little bottle brush wreath yesterday at a thrift store for 50 cents.  The French script snowman is new this year from T.J. Maxx.  Funny thing, I just gave a large tote filled with snowmen to my son and dil last year.  Trying to down size.  Mercy, here we go again!

I placed my tinsel tree from Smith and Edwards (an after Christmas find one year) on my yellow bench.  Notice we still have snow.  And were suppose to get more today.  Hasn’t happened yet.

IMG_3809

It has a bit of rustic charm in an old Coca Cola crate.  A few simple red ornaments and cardinals is all it needed.

I hung the wreaths as usual from my white curtains.  Draped across the bench is a red and white throw I made and a ruffled pillow I bought from my hairdresser, Shalana.

IMG_3808

This year I rolled the extra ribbon on the top of the wreaths into a flower.

IMG_3814

I created a cottage vignette above the fireplace.  The little pom pom garland was another thrift find.

This little fella is handy to have around after a big snow storm.  He shovels for only a quarter.

The stockings were hung. . .

And the red wicker chair was dressed up with a ticking pillow for a cushion and draped with a small Christmas throw.

The top of the red cabinet got a Winter scene also.

Yup, I think we’re ready for the big day.  Now that I finally got that bed painted.  Keeping it simple above the bed with a chalkboard canvas I painted last year.  I wrote one verse from the song, “Winter Wonderland’.

Just a few little last minute things. . . off to wrap more presents!

Merry Christmas!

Share Your Cup Thursday #85

Hello and welcome to Share Your Cup (SYC).  Can you believe that Christmas is only a week away?  I hope you are almost ready for the big day!

Because, ready or not, it will come!   I will be taking a holiday break from SYC.  It will return on January 8th.  Please enjoy this wonderful time of year and have a very Merry Christmas!  I look forward to seeing what you have to share in the New Year!

I have been having so much fun visiting a lot of the links from the ‘Creating Christmas’ party!  I managed to visit all of the Sugar and Spice links, but still hoping to visit more of the others.  Thanks so much to the gals that helped host and to all of you for sharing your wonderful Christmas posts with us!

Last night I had the opportunity to attend our church’s monthly night Relief Society meeting.  The theme was ‘Silent Night, Holy Night’.  It was a beautiful evening centered around our Savior.  I decorated one of the tables and I snapped a few pics with my phone.  Thought I would share them with you.

Because I was showcasing three of my Nativity sets that all had touches of peach I used my china with the peach rim that my mil gave me when we moved into our Highland home.  The mix and match vintage green glassware belongs to my daughter, Kylee.

This is my first Nativity.  One I purchased when we were first married from Home Interiors.

This one is what I call,  my ‘heritage Nativity’.  I purchased it in Prague over 10 years ago.  My heritage on my dads side is from Czechoslovakia.  Don’t you love the sheep?

This is a wooden one that I painted years ago.  I’m sorry that I didn’t get an overall picture of the entire table.

With all the hustle and bustle that comes with the Christmas season it’s nice to remember why we celebrate it!

The girl over the program had this sweet display set up.  There were more beautiful tables, but I’ll share them later.

After you link up please come back and leave a comment. They help to fill my cup!

Highly ‘Sawed’ after

Ever since I saw the decorated old saws at a local vintage sale (Fleattitude), I have been wanting to make one.

You might say, an old saw was highly ‘sawed’ after’ by me.  I had one that was my sisters, but the handle was broken.

A few weeks ago hubby took me to an estate sale in S.L.C.  That was quite an experience.  His first estate sale.  Must admit, he handled it well, and was great to have along to help carry my junk treasures!

After I shopped the house I suggested we go around back and check out the garage.  There they were, three old saws with wooden handles just begging me to take them home.

It’s now found a new place. . .out on my front porch.

IMG_3796

At first I thought I wanted it to say, ‘Cut your own tree’.  But then I realized if I went with ‘Fresh Balsam Fir’ that I could leave it out for the Winter months.

My daughter, Karrah cut the words on her Cricket.   I stenciled it using a Golden Brown acrylic paint.

IMG_3795

My sis, Julie and friend, Dolly came up from down South and we had a great time giving our saws a new life!

I had picked up 4 of these little burlap bags at a yard sale last summer for a quarter each.  Perfect for holding both real and faux greenery.

IMG_3797

Some berries, a touch of sparkle,  burlap and muslin.

If you come to visit and can’t find me, check outside.  I might be sawing logs. lol!

Merry Christmas to Me!

I know that we have all heard the saying that “It’s better to give than to receive’.  And yes, I do love giving, but this weekend it felt as if Christmas had come early for me.

On Friday I went to an estate sale.  The first thing I spied when I walked into the (jam packed) home was a vintage quilt.  Not just any vintage quilt, but a Dresden Plate vintage quilt.

IMG_3784

I have been wanting to make a Dresden Plate quilt for some time now.  I couldn’t even begin to make one for the $75 I put out for this baby.

And. . .this one is in perfect condition and made from old flour sack fabrics and hand quilted.  If you ask me, it doesn’t get any better than that.

IMG_3778

It felt as though Santa himself had hand picked this gift just for me!

IMG_3777

It had never been washed and had that ‘old’ smell.  You know what I’m talking about.  The first thing I did was to machine wash it on delicate and toss it in the dryer.  After that I had to play with it for a while.

IMG_3779

It’s even sweeter now with all of that puckering the machine washing did for it.

IMG_3776

And then, if that wasn’t enough.  Last night we arrived home about 10 p.m. from my hubby’s company Christmas dinner.

Hubby said, “looks like we have a package’.  It was addressed to me and when I brought it inside and opened it I squealed with delight!

Sweet Victoria from Sunny in Tucson had told me that she was going to send me one of her felted Christmas mice a while back.  Honestly, I had totally forgotten about it.

IMG_3780

Isn’t he the sweetest thing?  All handmade from Victoria.  She taught herself how to felt wool by watching a video on line.  This is something that I have wanted to learn also.  On my ‘to do’ list after the New Year.

IMG_3782

He couldn’t wait to hop into the living room and attempt to hang his ornament on my tinsel tree.

IMG_3785

For now I have just been calling him ‘Mouskavitch’.  But he needs a name.  Any suggestions?

IMG_3786

I love my early gifts!  And I’m. . .

Hoping a little Christmas love comes your way!

hugs,

Jann
