Put a Fork in It!

Hello my friends,
do you have a special birdhouse that is just sitting around waiting to be placed on a pole?

Why not put a fork in it?

A pitch fork that is!

A few years ago my sweet father in law made me this birdhouse.  I painted it aqua, glazed it, and added the tin roof and other
 bits of junk.

I already have a few birdhouses on poles in my garden so I just kept moving it around trying to decide what I wanted to do with it. At first I thought I would add it to one of the pergola posts.  The roof overhangs in back so that wouldn't work.

Then last summer I had an idea.  Why not put a fork in it?
My sis had given me a birdhouse years ago attached to a shovel.  I could do the same thing using a pitchfork.

I had an old one that I had picked up and it just sort of hung out in the garden.  Now and then I worried a little about one of the grands wanting to play with it.  It hadn't happened, but what a dangerous weapon it could be!

Hubby bought these metal pipe brackets and they worked great to attach the pitchfork to the back of the birdhouse.

He used screws that were long enough to hold it well, but not so long that they would cause damage to any birds that might decide to take up residency.  Although that hasn't happened.  :(

We stuck it in the ground and it's a fun and whimsical statement in our garden.

And now I want to announce the date of our next Garden Party.
Monday, May 23rd.
We would love if you placed this on your sidebar to help
 spread the word!

Our last party was a great success!  So many fabulous garden posts were linked up.

Hope you will join us again!

hugs,
Jann

So cute and what a great idea!! I have just started collecting birdhouses for my new home...when the work is done on my deck I'll start hanging them. Right now it just feels like everything is a big mess!!

I bet I'll have a post for the garden party (but not MY garden!) If I can link more than one, I may have to show the one I just put up today, too!

Oh, Jann! I just knew we might similar vintage pieces in our gardens! I also have a great, old birdhouse made from vintage wood with a tin roof. It came mounted to an old pitchfork. Such a fun gift from a dear friend! It is always so easy to put this birdhouse in the midst of a patch of daylilies. I just step on the pitchfork... and it is anchored in the ground for the entire gardening season! Enjoy your beautiful birdhouse, Jann! ♡

Clever idea for sure. Good for when you need to move it around for any reason. I have a multi story birdhouse that is about 5 feet tall. The birds only have nested in the highest hole so far. Since it is on my front porch they get annoyed when we use the front door and this year gave up on their nesting and moved on. Sorry guys.. gotta live.

You have given me a great idea for the day. I have a bunch of my dad's old tools and I have a bunch of birdhouses. It's cold and gloomy today and I need a project since we won't be kayaking. Don't be surprised if I post a birdhouse on a stick on Tuesday!

Got to love a junky birdhouse on a pitchfork. I am so stealing this idea. Going to check my vintage garden tools for a pitchfork right now. Thank you for sharing your clever idea at Vintage Charm.

What a great idea to put the birdhouse on the pitchfork. I had a large birdhouse down in the basement and a pole outside with nothing on it...so a few weeks ago it went up on the pole.
