Treasures and Trinkets Tuesday. . .Oil Can Alley

Hello my friends,
first of all, I want to say thank you for all of the sweet comments you left me about my hand pain.  They are feeling much better, but I am still battling with it.

I am heading out of town for a gal pal get away tomorrow, but I am planning on Share Your Cup returning on the 9th.

Today I wanted to share a new addition to my she shed,
 'Hilltop Cottage'.

A couple of weeks ago I hosted the 9th estate sale at my home for my friends late Aunt Bunnies estate.

Every time there are one or two items that I can not resist buying.  :)

I had seen this rustic oil can display in the basement months ago.  I loved it, but had already decided that I had absolutely nowhere to hang it.

When we brought it to  my home I decided I had to see if I had a place inside of Hilltop Cottage.  After all, I have quite a nice collection of oil cans.  (wink)

I don't know what it is about vintage display cabinets and advertising that makes my heart skip a beat.

Now, let's talk about oil cans. . .I have loved them for some time.  I have a small collection of larger ones and have picked up many small ones over the years.  It's their unique shapes and curves that catch my eye.

Just look at this blue beauty!  Such a long spout, oh my!

It's the remnant of a label that I loved about this one.  And notice how it matches the  colors in the display cabinet so well!

This one is red.  No brainer, that I love it!

Copper, rust, and blue paint.  Yup, I love them all!  Each spout is unique and each can has it's own personality.

A fun funnel and a few of my garden sprinklers.

Now tell me, (honest, I won't be offended); are you attracted to things like this, or do you consider it to be junk?

My picnic baskets and birdhouse will come out for summer displays.

Last year I picked up four of these little kids brooms at an estate sale.  Another quirky thing that caught my eye and I couldn't resist buying!

Sometimes I laugh, or at least smile; at how silly I am and at what things catch my eye.  Oh, and yes; the garage is one of my favorite places to pick when I go to estate sales.

Hilltop Cottage seems to be the perfect place to display some of my collections.  Some have no purpose at all, other than to look pretty!

hope you enjoyed my oil can alley!

hugs,
I will be sharing with these fun parties:

Oh, yes, I'm attracted to rusty or colored garage junk. Our son has a couple of really nice huge oil cans; so if I find something at a good price, I can always buy it knowing he has a space for it. I'm afraid he has inherited the collecting gene from both his father and I!! Enjoy your weekend.

My Hubby would be so jealous of you right now. He use to be a mechanic and loves things like that.

How fun! You’ve reminded me that there was an oil can at my parents that I should look for. I watch that American Pickers show all the time though I am not actually a collector I enjoy seeing the things they find. Preserving artifacts from the past is a good thing- especially since the world has changed so much and so few actually do the “hands on” kind of work that used to be done. Someday in the future others will be collecting these things and not even know why or what an oil can was used for!

Hubby has some very old oil cans also. He likes things like that.

I did collect oil cans at one time and still have a few left. I think we're all crazy...LOL...but in a good way!

That is a great collection...especially love the oil cans! Isn't it something that those old things that were just a part a part of everyday life back in the day have become such collectibles. Enjoy the rest of your week!

Jann, I love old oil cans and things that remind me of going to the old gas stations with my dad to have his car checked, or serviced by a mechanic. Just wish we could find an old blue and white 1953 Chevy! Dad loved that car. I think that old things remind us of happier, more peaceful times. They are comforting and nostalgic.

Jann, I'm glad that your hand is doing better, and that you're off for so fun with friends! I liked seeing your oil can collection, and all the things that you find beautiful. Have a happy rest of the week.

My DH has several large oil cans in the garage, but I have my own little collection in my craft room. Like you, I'm drawn to them for the shapes and patina. Your shelf is awesome!

Quite a unique collection Jann! Love how the colors work well together and brighten up what is normally a plain but functional space.
