Did I Overdo the Red, White, and Blue?

Walk into our home in the summertime and it's obvious
that we are patriotic.

But the question I sometimes ask myself is, "did I overdo the
 red, white, and blue"?

I am so attracted to the color combination!
And can not pass up a patriotic vintage treasure.  Nor am I good at getting rid of things that I have had for eons.  They all have memories attached.

So for overdo,

I'll let you decide for yourself.  :)

When you enter our home this small cabinet is located directly to the right.

Look to the left and you'll see this.  If you'd like to read more about the redo of this cabinet go here.

Now let's step into the living room.  Just as a side note, I am still keeping my eyes out for a larger rug and I am going to sand the floor to give it a time worn touch.  Hoping to feeling up to doing that before fall.

I don't think I have ever shown a close up of this cabinet hanging above the sofa.

The mantle is decorated in a Nautical theme, and bits and bobs sit on top of the coffee table.

This chippy white table is in front of the window.  I've created a tribute to the Declaration of Independence on it.

This small table sits at the bottom of the stairs.

Now let's enter the family room.  You can see that this area is
very open.

Can I just tell you how badly I want to paint my cabinets white?  Well, not going there with the hubs yet.  (wink)  The improvements never end!

I really hate the big black box in the center.  I would love to cover it up somehow!  We actually saw something really cool at a Home Show a couple years ago.  It was an entertainment center with sliding barn doors.  Hubby liked it as well and thought he could do something similar with ours.  After looking at it closer he said, it wouldn't work.  :(

This photo was taken from the kitchen area.  It shows my, "Oh what do you do in the summertime?" themed mantle.

Here is a close up of the table behind the sectional.

Directly across from the sofa table is our dining table.
I've decorated it in a Betsy Ross theme.

Vintage sewing notions are tucked into metal cones and hang from the chandelier.

My bowl stand is to the left of the table.  I have such a weakness for dishes!  Notice the bottom bowl is filled with chalk?  It has been there for a month now waiting for me to draw something on the chalkboard hanging above.  Just hasn't happened.  I also noticed that my bowls are not all centered.  Keeping it real!!

I don't put a ton on the island because I set our meals up there family style.  We dish and then go sit.  Sometimes at the bar, sometimes at the table, and sometimes in the family room; using the ottoman as a table.  When it's only the two of you, you do whatever you want to do.  lol!

My tiered tray is always so fun to fill!

Back side.  It's hard getting pics because we get a lot of sunshine in our home.  Wouldn't have it any other way.  I'm a sunshine girl!

I have lots of little vignettes on my counters.

I recently got this darling vintage candy container from my friends Aunt Bunnies estate.  I love it!

I sculpted the Uncle Sam heads last year and just finished painting and assembling them this year.

I noticed that the button has fallen off the metal star.

That is all on one long counter.  Now to the other side, where the stove is.

My sister, Jeanne just gave me the butter dish.  She's feeding
my addiction.

This is on a very small counter next to our fridge.  See what I mean by a weakness for dishes?  You wouldn't believe how many cute patriotic dishes I have passed up at thrifts lately.  I just know that I do not need more.

Well, there you have it. . .a whole lotta red, white and blue!

The bedroom is looking a bit patriotic too.

I know that some day I will have to downsize big time, and that this would definitely be to much for many of you.
However, for now: I am loving my red, white, and blue!

Wishing you all a Happy, fun, and safe 4th of July.

We will be hosting our annual outdoor breakfast for family.

hugs,
Jann

I have developed a dish addiction as well since I did my 'redecor' starting in 2013, bringing in retro & vintage items. I love them all, love ironstone and transferware and LOVE to decorate with vintage for the holidays. I do a mini theme for the 'minor' days / seasons (like Valentines Day, St Pats) and for Memorial Day to Labor Day I stick with a minor amount of red/white/blue on my hutch & dining room / table and coffee table, with additions of sunflowers, etc in late August. That saves me having to change decor May/June/July with just a slight addition in August :). I love all your decor too!!!

Well as I Canadian I have to say that I love it! Your attention to detail and ability to mix and match makes you house look wonderful. I suppose I might take down a few of the flags after July 4th but otherwise I wouldn't change a thing.

I don't think you over did it at all. You have so many vintage items that don't necessarily scream the colors. Love the desk with your computer screen. Don't let anyone try to eat those marshmallows. They will have some cracked teeth.

Happy 4th 🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷

Looks great to me. I managed to decorate in my dining room. We are in the middle of redesign in our living areas so not much is going on here. I have Fall on the brain for some reason and will be haunting Dollar Tree for pumpkins soon to make them look like concrete(if I am not on assignment for work).

Yes, Hooray for the Red, White & Blue!
I was reading your comments about wanting to paint your kitchen cabinets white but not in the foreseeable future, right? I have an idea that I had used when we lived in military quarters and were not allowed to make any changes so I "glued" fabric to the facades of the cabinets, using liquid starch!
You could use drop cloth (I order from Chicago Canvas on Amazon) and run it through the wash with fabric softener and dry it.
Then measure the facades of your cabinets (the part that is raised from the rest of the door perhaps) and cut your pieces to fit, run them through the liquid starch (as you would for wall paper), and partially squeeze the run off. Place and press onto the raised portion, continuing to squeeze excess liquid away. Any run-off and drips are easily wiped away.
These can be easily removed simply by re-wetting them. Easy to wipe off any excess starch from the cabinet.

Jann, do you really think anyone could have too much r/w/&b? I sure don't. I love all your charming pieces and that quilt on the bed is beautiful. I have a similar gripe about the "big black box", mine would be really hard to hide. As I saw your other beautiful quilt hanging on the railing in the next picture, I thought you could maybe put a moveable arm at the top of your TV with a small quilt hanging on it and then you could pull it back when you are watching TV. It just popped into my head and thought maybe you would like it. The reason I haven't been linking up to your party lately is that something wouldn't let me. Maybe it was the beginning of all the mess with the comments so I will try again..Happy 4th..xxoJudy
