Farmhouse Style Mantle

Hello my friends,
You know my love for finding treasures at thrift stores.

Well, a recent thrift find was all it took to get me to give my basement mantle a new look.

I am the gal who is always changing her décor.  So for our basement mantle to have remained the same for over a year was simply unheard of!

But it did!  We had our oldest son and his family living with us for 8 months last year, from April until the end of Dec.  They were building a new home.  Their home sold really fast and they needed somewhere to stay.  They lived in the basement, so I didn't go down and change the décor.  I wanted them to feel as comfortable as possible.  Actually, we really enjoyed having them here!

They were a big help last summer after my cancer diagnosis.

Last weekend hubby and I got the heck out of Dodge for two days.  We were just needing to get away.

On our way home from Wyoming we stopped at a thrift shop in Logan, Utah.
You know how it is when you are on a road trip.  You always need to stop and stretch your legs and have a potty break.
Why not make it at a thrift shop?  :)

Hubby is always such a good sport about it.  I found this sweet red and white enamel Farmers Market sign for $3.  It had an original price tag hanging from it of $21.99.

It was buried underneath a stack of pans.  It was instant love when I unearthed it.  I knew it was perfect for my
farmhouse style basement.

I have loved enamelware for a number of years now and have a small collection of red and white.  They have chips and touches of rust, but if you ask me, that just adds to the character.

I added some of them to the mantle.  The floral one was also found at a thrift shop a couple months ago.  The jadite cake stand is Pioneer Woman.

To the left of the sign I added a red speckled enamel pitcher and a small red dotty ceramic one.  I stacked three jadite bowls and filled the top one with eggs.  These bowls are reproductions.  I found them at a damaged goods store and they were from  Williams Sonoma.  They were marked $35 for the set of three.  Much to my surprise they were 25% off when they rang them up.  You know how expensive they would have been at Williams Sonoma!

I have had the metal red rooster for years.  I use to have a lot of roosters and chickens.  I've sold a lot of them at yard sales, but hung on to a few.

I love the jadite green color with red!  Such an easy mantle to throw together.  Now I'm wondering, what took me so long?  (wink)

Do you like the farmhouse style?  I love it!

hugs,

I will be sharing with these fun parties:

I share your enamel love! I bought two "Farmhouse" style magazines today, so I guess I can answer your question yes.

Hugs right back Jann. Great collection of 'farmhouse' you have pulled together for your brick mantle. I love rusty enamel pieces and you have mixed them in together with the jadite (as well as the Fresh Eggs Farmer's Market sign and your brick red rooster. Glad you shared.

I love your mantle and especially the white and red pot. I am married into a family of Norwegian descent, and this mantle with this pot definitely has that air to it. Beautiful.

Jann, I love your mantle! You have some SWEET stuff on that mantle. Don't you just love a good deal when thrifting? Love those Enamel pieces. They remind me so much of things my great-grandmother had. She passed away when I was 9 but I can still remember seeing some of her enamel sitting in her kitchen. Hope you are having a great day today. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

Very pretty! I had a flowered enamel cooking pot in the 70's when I was first married! When it became chipped and stained I threw it away. Now I wish I kept it, Jann. I could have used it decoratively like you did
